Chapter 489 1.488 Thirsk, a revised history
"'The Snow Prince gallops through the people like a longboat riding the wind and waves in the icy waters of Lake Vjardim'."

Sitting on the stone under the altar of Gina Lais, when he opened the book with the warmth of the huntress, Wu Chen couldn't help but think of the legend about the Snow Prince. But this is not the focus of the lord's attention. So he went on to read:

"On the eastern shore of Lake Vjardim stands Thirsk, a magnificent hall of mead, home to the most valiant tribe of Nord warriors. Long ago a small group of Skaar decided to leave their closed main village, Freed from the strict observance of their Creator worship by their kin. They attempt to live the lives of their ancestors in Skyrim—killing their prey at will, free to worship the gods in whatever way they choose. Heading south to the shores of Lake Vjardim, where they found an ideal new settlement. They unanimously decided to build a grand mead hall by the lake as their warm new home and spacious hunting lodge. After months of construction, The group of mates finally completed the task and named the mead hall: Thirsk. All the hard-working settlers are sincerely proud of their achievements. But their happiness is so short-lived, because not everyone All welcome the completion of Thirsk.

As the mead halls were built, noise and commotion disturbed an ancient creature dormant beneath the ice. It's a tragic twist of irony when the final beam of the great hall is nailed in place and the sleeping beast finally wakes up.He is the legendary troll 'Udyrfrykte', the Grim Reaper who was awakened and enraged by the settlers.Udfrikt came to the newly built Mead Hall to wreak vengeance on the settlers who had broken his long, cold hibernation. He killed without warning, without mercy, and cut the Thirsk Nords in half.It was the heroic mage Eldrid Ice-Light who finally drove the beast back to its lair beneath the frozen lake, sealing the entrance with a magical wall of ice.The horrific war is over, but at a great cost.It took the settlers two full months to repair the damage wrought by Udfrikt before Thirsk stood tall again.

Although the settlers worked together to build the Mead Hall and dispel the threat posed by Udyrfrekt, tensions quickly swelled over who would be their leader. Most Nord warriors consider Hrothmund the Red their de facto chieftain, as he is the strongest and most capable of the group.A mighty warrior, Drengr Bronze-Helm, disagreed. He thought he was the only one most capable of ruling Thirsk and speaking out against Red Hrosmond.Knowing that strife and infighting would only ruin the new life they had worked so hard to create, Hrosmund Red swung his ax and beheaded Drengar Bronzehelm. The Nords most admired the might of a brave man in battle, and the duel that killed Drunge proved to them that Hrosmund was indeed the most worthy chieftain of Thirsk. So that his companions would never forget the leadership he had wrested with the axe, Hrosmond placed Drengar's head on a pedestal in the center of Thirsk Hall for all to see.

Thus began Thirsk's oldest tradition.Any fighter, regardless of race or gender, can declare himself leader of the Mead Hall by displaying the most impressive battle trophy (trophy) on the hall's pedestal. As long as the spirit of Red Hrothmond agrees, that warrior will be named chieftain.

Hrosmond's Bane: For 21 years, Red Hrosmond ruled Thirsk and its inhabitants as chieftain. With his soft voice and his massive axe - said to be the largest weapon the Nords had ever wielded - Hrosmund brought peace and prosperity to Thirsk. But peace proved to be ruinous for Hrothmund, as the mighty Nords grew restless in the warmth and safety of the mead halls. They hungered for battle and adventure, longed to feel the frost in their veins again, never to forget the call of valor with a hangover. When word spread that a huge, bloodthirsty white wolf was terrorizing travelers at Moise Ridge, Hrosmund took up his great ax and went alone to hunt the beast. The mountain people named the white wolf 'Ondjage', the fallen wolf. The beast was as big as an ox, with fur as white as freshly fallen snow, and said that no living man could bring Onjaki down.Later battles proved the words of the mountain people to be correct.Hrosmund cut off a leg from the wolf, while Onjaki devoured the mighty Nord alive, leaving only his great ax as a cruel proof of man's failure against the beast. When the news came, Thirsk's warriors set out on the mountain in grief and rage to find the fallen wolf they called "Hrothmund's Bane".Together they finally slew Onjarzi and ate its roast as a family around the warm firepit of Thirsk Hall.

Here is a list of Thirsk's chiefs since Hrosmond's first reign:

There is an unrecorded history here.At some point, the legendary troll Udfricit was dealt with once and for all, but there is no record of Thirsk's leader at this time.Apparently, several other chiefs came and went before the records were restored.Thirsk's penchant for oral lore means the names may be lost forever to history.

Expansion: The Thirsk Mead Hall is almost the same today as it was more than 100 years ago, a testament to the quality of its construction. While Thirsk itself did not expand, its inhabitants continued to grow, and before long the grand mead halls could no longer accommodate all who wished to live in them. Therefore, over the years, many Nords left Thirsk, relying on the island's numerous caves and natural shelters, and established their own private camps in the wilderness of Southerheim. But those who leave always like to come back to Thirsk and enjoy the hospitality of the Mead Hall.It is also to be noted that although more than 100 years have passed since the group first left the village of Skaar, the Nords of Skaar and Thirsk have continued to communicate, sometimes even exchanging resources.

Relationship to Raven Rock: The Nords of Thirsk have the same relationship to Raven Rock that they once had with the Empire, when the apathetic relationship between the two sides was known on Southerheim: willful disinterest and lack of complexity. Both would be happy if they could be reasonably sure that the other 'didn't exist (meaning Thirsk or Raven Rock wiped each other out completely)'.But this is not to say that there is any reason for hostility between the two sides; on the contrary, there is no reason for these two very different cultures to intersect at all (meaning that the two sides have no intersection at all, so there will be no disputes, and there will be no hostility).

Law and order in Thirsk: In the mead halls of Thirsk, the chieftain acts as judge, jury and executioner when necessary. The reality is that Thirsk has always been a fairly peaceful place, where camaraderie and goodwill are the norm (ask the loot on display?).The Nords of Thirsk have long realized that Southheim is a harsh homeland, and fighting each other is not as fruitful as fighting the island's bears, wolves, ghouls, snow goblins, let alone any other depraved Creatures are likely to roam the land.Despite this, there were occasional disagreements between Thirsk fighters, which often ended in bloodshed.Every few years, someone will challenge the chief to engage in a bloody duel (Blood Duel), trying to gain the right to rule Thirsk and become the new chief.

But for the most part, the Nords of Thirsk are one big family as happy as the savages. And, like any family, they had their quarrels.

Age of Ashes: Since the eruption of Red Mountain, the deserted south of Southheim has been taken over by the dark elves. However, Thirsk sits right above the desolate area and has happily escaped the devastation of the volcanic ash that covered most of the land.In the years since, Thirsk has taken its role as a 'safe haven' more seriously. They specialize in hospitality and welcome outsiders, whether they seek respite from the Ashlands of the South or the cold of the North.
