The biggest advantage of this is that it will not damage the shape of the aircraft and will not bring about aerodynamic changes. It is the same as before. Compared with those early warning aircraft with large plates, it is simply a breeze.
In the past, because the David people could not make the mushroom-shaped cover and did not have the ability to research aerodynamics, when manufacturing the Palcon early warning aircraft, they directly installed radar antennas on the nose and both sides of the fuselage, turning the passenger plane into an early warning aircraft with a big nose and big cheeks, in order to reduce the change in the aerodynamic shape. However, the internal antenna is still flat, and there is no antenna at the tail, so it will bring a large blind spot.
In phased array radar, the radiation of electromagnetic waves has been distributed to individual T/R units, but this does not mean that the position of the unit can be placed arbitrarily. If the position is different, the phase of the radiated electromagnetic wave may change. It must be placed accurately and integrated into the system. In order to reduce the complexity of the system, these units should be placed on a flat plate.
The conformal antenna has to be designed according to the shape of the aircraft. Generally, the shape is curved. In this way, when the components are placed, they will be curved. Each component has its own separate position, which makes it very difficult to integrate them.
Advanced computers are required to complete complex data calculations. In the entire world, only the East has this capability!
It is on this basis that the 38th Institute has made breakthroughs in conformal antenna technology.
