Batman's Owl Godfather

Chapter 55 I Want to Burn the Last of My Youth

Chapter 55 I Want to Burn the Last of My Youth
When they entered Professor X's room, he was already fast asleep.

He was motionless and sleeping peacefully.

"It's a bit unfortunate."

Hawkeye kept smiling, "Let's wait for a while, it's okay, let's use this time to get to know each other!"

Bruce had seen the old man lying on the bed.

It is hard to believe that such a skinny old man would be the former leader of mutants in Katum's words.

He looked at the other two old men.

One was sitting on the sofa, holding a bottle of wine and drinking. He just wanted to immerse himself in alcohol and was completely uninterested in anything outside.

Is this person the Wolverine Logan mentioned by Katum?

A hero who has saved the world many times?
Too fake?

Bruce only saw deep decadence in this old man, not any heroism.

Hawkeye on the other side was better, but he was too enthusiastic and made himself look like a weird old man.

"Is this what a superhero looks like in his later years?"

Bruce felt that his outlook on life had been overturned. "If I become a hero, will my later years be like this?"

"No, no, don't worry."

Katum quickly comforted him, "If it was the original you, then there would most likely be no old age."

So don't worry.

Bruce took a deep breath to calm himself.

The owl's mouth sounds uglier than a crow's.

"Bruce, anything to drink?"

Old Hawkeye opened the refrigerator and, like the grandfather next door, rummaged through it to see if there was anything he could feed the children.

But he forgot that this was Wolverine's refrigerator and there was only wine in it.

Hawkeye searched for a long time before finding two bottles of mineral water and handed one of them to Bruce.

"I'm so sorry, kid, these are all the things I have at home."

"Thank you."

Bruce took the mineral water and Hawkeye sat next to him.

"Bruce, where are you from?" Hawkeye asked curiously, "I mean, you walked here alone?"

Bruce shook his head and pointed at Katum: "No, I came with him."

Hawkeye showed an expression of sudden enlightenment: "I see, you act together with your animal companions.

"I've had teammates like this before. Their animal companions were all kinds of interesting, such as kestrels, ants, and raccoons."

When he talked about the past, it seemed as if he was back to fifty years ago.

Bruce didn't want to interrupt an old man's memories, so he could only listen silently with a bottle of water in his hand.

But Hawkeye's constant chatter was indeed a bit intrusive.

"Come to think of it, I once had a partner named Falcon who could communicate with birds. I learned a few tricks from him."

Hawkeye seemed to want to get closer to Bruce as quickly as possible and tried hard to find topics to talk about.

He looked at the owl on Bruce's shoulder: "Well, do you want me to show you?"

After saying that, he started a conversation with Katum without waiting for Bruce's consent.

"Hey birdie, how are you?"

Katum: "Stupid."

Hawkeye kept smiling, pointed at the owl and said to Bruce: "Look, your little bird was also saying hello to me just now."

Bruce didn't reveal it.

He just blamed Katum through telepathy: "Can you be more civilized? He is an old man after all."

"I'm the most fucking civilized owl in the entire world."

Katum sneered, "When will this old Deng realize that Professor X is dead!"

Bruce: “Huh?”

……

Perhaps, a world on the verge of destruction is always full of surprises.

It is only natural that a happy event turns into a funeral.

When Bruce euphemistically suggested that he go to see Professor X, the two old men, Logan and Clint, finally discovered that Professor X had died in his sleep.

Perhaps they were mentally prepared and they quickly accepted the fact in silence.

The two held a simple funeral for Professor X, and then buried him next to a lake. At least this place is close to water, and it feels a bit like Xavier's school back then.

“May he rest in peace soon.”

Hawkeye squatted in front of the professor's tombstone, and Logan stood behind him.

Although their expressions were solemn, they did not show too much sadness.

In this era, death is not a bad thing for Professor X.

Moreover, the day when Hawkeye and Logan, the two old men, will reunite with Professor X is not far away.

It's just a pity——

"He actually wants to see you."

Hawkeye stood up and came to Bruce's side, "He said you were hope, and that's what guided you here. I don't know what that means, maybe he's saying that you will inherit our superhero mantle.

"I actually have a lot of stories I want to tell you, stories about former Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, and a series of other predecessors.

"But there's no time now, Bruce. I'm really glad to meet you before I leave!"

Professor X's death strengthened Hawkeye's belief.

He realized that he was getting old and death could come at any time.

What he wanted to do could not be delayed any longer.

Since Wolverine is unwilling to join, he will do it alone, even if the result is death.

Bruce's gaze remained on Professor X's grave.

It's not like he hasn't seen death before, but this is the first time he's seen the end of a superhero.

Bruce didn't know Professor X, nor did he know what he had done. The few things he knew about his past were told by Katoom.

But no matter what, Professor X must have had some passionate years back then.

But now, he left silently, without even a coffin, and even his tombstone was just a simple piece of wood.

Bruce couldn't really stop thinking about it.

Will he do the same in the future? Burn his whole life for justice, and then die in a deserted corner.

Is this the price of being a hero?
Can I accept this outcome?
"Katum." Bruce suddenly asked, "Is this why you brought me into this world?"

"Maybe." Katum's answer was ambiguous.

Their conversation didn't continue because Hawkeye was leaving.

When he passed by Logan, Logan suddenly asked, "Where are you going?"

"You obviously know that."

Hawkeye pretended to be relaxed, "I'm going to the New Utopia to burn the last of my youth!"

"A new utopia?"

Suddenly, Bruce's voice was heard.

“Is this new utopia the New York of the past?”

He is still not used to the name New York, because in the DC world, there is no New York, only Gotham and Metropolis.

Hawkeye was also dazed for a moment by the name of New York.

This is such a distant memory.

"I guess so." Hawkeye said, "What's wrong?"

"Take me one!"

Bruce stated his purpose, "Actually, I wanted to go to New York, but it's inconvenient to go alone."

Hawkeye subconsciously wanted to refuse: "What I do is very dangerous..."

"I can protect myself!"

Bruce interrupted Hawkeye, stretched out his hand, and a stone in the distance automatically floated in front of him.

Logan, who had remained silent all this time, suddenly frowned: "Are you a mutant?"

It was natural for him to think in this direction, otherwise why would Professor X say that Bruce was hope?
Bruce didn't comment, just looked at Hawkeye quietly.

Hawkeye frowned for a long time before finally making a decision.

"Okay! But I'm only responsible for bringing you to the new utopia."

"This is enough."

Bruce walked over to Hawkeye, stood side by side with him, and prepared to leave.

At this time, Hawkeye turned around for the last time and asked Wolverine a question.

"Logan, you really don't want to join?"
