When we got there, we knocked on the door, and the embassy very enthusiastically introduced us to the local overseas Chinese leaders.But since then, we've felt a lot of skepticism.

Overseas Chinese thought we were here for a show, so they took a few photos and went back.

The local white NGO even reported us for poaching in the name of anti-poaching.They also went to the airport to take pictures and reported that we were going to bring the elephant back to BJ.That photo is of a Boeing 737, how could it be possible to put down an elephant?
Even those closest to us have misconceptions about us.In need of guidance, we had an Italian friend named Francesco.He has a very large yard with many dogs.

Once we went to his house to play, and the team members went to play with them because they liked dogs.At this time, Lao Fu suddenly pointed his gun at us and said: If you dare to eat my dog, I will kill you!
He thinks we all eat dogs!

When we went out, we found that the outside world misunderstood us too deeply.

I can understand this mistrust. Objectively speaking, we are indeed the largest consumer of ivory.But because of this, we need to get involved even more. Doubt and confrontation cannot solve practical problems, so why not do it ourselves!
With the help of overseas Chinese leaders, our team finally moved into the Manapus Biological Reserve after going through various formalities.

Manaps Park is beautiful.Forests, grasslands, rivers, swamps, and mountains in Zambia have diverse landforms and rich species.Groups of hippos and elephants look like fat bugs when flying overhead.

That kind of vastness, that kind of primitive feeling makes me feel that everything in the city is so small.And these on the land of Africa are the beginning of life.

Our base is located at the northernmost part of the park and beside the border river in the northernmost part of Zimbabwe.Because it is a United Nations natural heritage, we cannot build fixed buildings, concrete floors, or fences. We can only set up tents and be with wild animals every day.

Sleeping in a tent, surrounded by the sounds of animals, hippopotamus, lions, elephants, wild dogs, warthogs and unknown animals.You will be scared to death, as if this tent will be torn apart at any moment.

Every day when we open the tent, we must carefully check whether there are elephants or lions outside.And elephants dangle and dangle in front of our eyes every day.

An elephant fell asleep at the door of my tent one night!
Another time we met a lion directly, because the color of the lion was the same as the grass in the dry season. When we got close to the lion, we saw three lions lying there!

Of course they also saw us, not to mention that we are right in front of our eyes, even if we are hundreds of meters away, they can know it.So at that time, my heart was pounding and my mind was blank.

Don't run at this time, you will be finished if you run.In fact, animals don't know that people can eat, we are not on their diet, but if I run away, it means you are the prey.Lions will instinctively chase you.

Finally we tiptoed away with bated breath.The lion didn't move much, probably thinking we were a group of passing baboons?
Although there are many dangers from animals, most of them can be avoided if you know the rules.And in order to better protect animals, it is very important to actively observe and learn their habits.

Slowly I became sensitive to animals, especially elephants, and I even knew some elephants, each elephant has its own personality.

There is an elephant who is not very old, but very nervous. When he sees us, he always opens his ears, rushes over, and then stops at the nearest place, trying to scare us!
But we have also formed a tacit understanding that when we know it is coming, we are not afraid of it and just stand still.

There was also an elephant who, wondering if he lost something in our base, was shaking his head wildly in the camp like he was on ecstasy.After letting it out, it went away, like a child.

In the early years, I also knew an elephant named Oscar, who was very gentle in his 50s.We can even touch its nose.Its teeth were also very long and very beautiful, but then it disappeared.

Haven't seen it again for so many years.Sometimes an elephant approaches us, and I subconsciously ask if Oscar is back?
We don't know until now, what happened to it?
I've been thinking about it, it's called Oscar.

Ding Xu suddenly had a sore nose. It is unclear whether the elephant died naturally, migrated or was hunted.It is very difficult to track an elephant in such a vast savannah.It is even more elusive for poachers to come and go without a trace.

We would patrol the park with powered delta wings, but because of the complex terrain, by the time we finally found clues, it was often too late.

Once when my teammates were on patrol, they found an elephant that had been hunted.Poachers cut off its entire face in order to get the full tusk.

Because they used to be living creatures before my eyes, when I saw them being hunted and killed with my own eyes, I was very indignant and very sad.

What is worse is not shooting, but poisoning in the water.Because there are no gunshots, poisoning is more difficult to detect, and poisoning often kills a large number of animals.The vast majority of poisoned animals are of no value to poachers.

This is very bad!
Sometimes poachers infiltrate and do some damage.The radio station in our camp was dismantled.So where does the danger come from?I don't know, it's there all the time.

During a night patrol, I found someone waving a flashlight in the air in the direction of Zambia.I thought it was tourists playing, but then someone from our side also signaled, and I immediately realized that it might be a communication between them.

Then the people on the opposite side saw our headlights, misjudged us as accomplices and came over.When they got very close, they realized something was wrong and ran away!
I didn't know what kind of weapons the opponent had, so I didn't dare to chase rashly. Instead, I rushed back to the nearby camp to get the rifle and night vision goggles, and then hurriedly followed. However, due to the complicated terrain, I lost it in the end.

At that time, I especially wanted to catch a poacher, because I hadn't caught one there for several years.

However, the anti-poaching work in Africa has achieved very good results. We still play the role of guidance and deterrence. Now our country has completely banned the ivory trade.
