Chapter 57 The Man Who Waited for 70 Years

Chapter 57 The Man Who Waited for 70 Years

Steve looked at the surrounding environment blankly, it looked like a hospital ward.He turned his head to look out the window, feeling that something was wrong.

"Now the Dodgers are tied 4-4 with the Phillies, and everybody knows that as long as the batter swings . . . "

Steve looks to the source of the sound, an old tape recorder playing a ball game.He looked wary.

"Good morning." A lady in uniform pushed the door in. "It should be good afternoon."

"Where is this place?" Steve asked seriously.

"The recovery room of a New York City hospital"

Steve turned his head and looked out the window again, his heart sinking gradually. "Where is this?"

"I don't understand what you mean." The lady suddenly became nervous.

"This game... was played in May 1941. I went to see it." As a soldier, I still have some judgments about the environment.Steve looked at the face of the lady in front of him who suddenly changed, and asked again. "I'm asking you once, what is this place?"

The agent suddenly panicked. She was very happy when the officer gave her this task. But I didn't expect it to develop like this. She quietly pressed the button in her hand. "Captain Rogers..."

"Who are you?" Steve interrupted the suspicious lady.

At this time, the agent outside the door received the signal and hurried in through the door.

Steve took a step back in surprise.

"bang"

The uniformed agent smashed through the wall and flew backwards. There was no power to fight back in front of Steve.

"Captain Rogers, wait!"

Steve looked at the outside environment in surprise, and he ran nervously in one direction.

"All attention to alert number 13!"

"There he is! Stop him!"

Steve ran up the hallway, knocked over several agents who were blocking him, and ran out.

On the street, Steve stared blankly at the familiar and unfamiliar crowd. He was standing under tall buildings, with cars passing by all around. He is surrounded by strangeness.Steve gasped, trying to find some familiarity.

"Relax, warrior."

Steve turned to the one-eyed black man who greeted him.

"I'm sorry, we made those sets, but I think it's better to tell you slowly." Nick Fury looked at the newly awakened Captain America.said softly.

"Tell me what..." Steve vaguely guessed something.

"You've been sleeping for nearly 70 years." Nick Fury stopped talking, and looked at Steve looking around in a daze, with something wrong on his face. "Are you OK?"

"It's okay, I just...have an appointment." Steve was suddenly a little disappointed.

"Hey, maybe you didn't miss the appointment, some people didn't wait for you, but some people did." Nick's words made Steve startled.

"Who else..." Steve looked at Nick in surprise. He suddenly felt that this world was not so strange.

"Uh, not many, only two... No, one." Nick changed his words suddenly, "Peggy Carter, you should be familiar with this name."

"Peggy . . . yes, I won't forget that name."

"She's been waiting for you." Nick gestured for Steve to follow him. "I think it's too late."

. . . . . .

"She has been waiting for you for 70 years, time has caused too much trauma on her. Her time is running out..." Nick motioned Steve to look into the ward.

Steve looked at the old man on the hospital bed in shock. The sleeping face can vaguely see the appearance of the past. "Time..." he muttered to himself.

"Go in, I'll wait outside..." Nick Fury gently opened the door of the ward, motioning for Steve to go in.

Steve walked towards the familiar person in his memory with heavy steps. He walked as lightly as possible.

"Peggy..." Steve, who was standing by the bed, opened his mouth. He had too many questions, but only two words came out in the end.

The person on the hospital bed seemed to hear the voice, and opened his eyes suspiciously.Eyes wide open suddenly. "S...Steve...is that you? You're still alive." Peggy tried to get up excitedly, but her body was too weak.

"Peggy, I'm back." Steve quickly grabbed Carter's hand and pressed her gently on the hospital bed.

"You're back, Steve. I finally waited for you to come. She didn't lie to me." Peggy looked at Steve and muttered.

Steve held Peggy's hand tightly, and he was full of emotion at this moment.Peggy just looked at Steve quietly.

"I've lived my life." She noticed Steve looking at the photo on the table. "My only regret is that you didn't get to live your life."

Steve didn't answer.

"what happened?"

"It's nothing, I just feel that the world is a little different. Except for you...everything around you is strange." Steve shook his head, expressing that it was all right, but told Carter with his expression that he was preoccupied. She knew all too well about the man she had loved all her life.

"You're always so exaggerated." Carter chuckled and eased the atmosphere. "Steve, the world has changed, no one can go back to the past..." As soon as he said this, Carter suddenly stopped, his expression was in a daze, "Go back to the past... no one, no, she can. "

Carter suddenly became excited, "Steve, cough, cough..." Then he coughed violently.

Steve hurriedly picked up the water on the table next to him and prepared to hand it to Carter.

After coughing violently, Carter calmed down, waved his hand, and signaled no need. "Steve, you are not alone, there is someone else waiting for you besides me. She knows everything."

"There is one more person..." Steve was a little dazed.

"No... Impossible. She can't do that..." Carter looked at Steve who was slightly dazed, and was taken aback. She didn't expect that Xi would erase Steve's memory. "Steve, you can't forget her... She is your guide." Carter shouted.

Steve's blank eyes suddenly became clear, and a girl in a military uniform appeared in his mind, and she knocked him down over and over again.

"Instructor..." Steve stared at Carter closely, "Peggy...instructor...still alive?"

"Hehehe, you succeeded, I knew you would never forget." Carter happily shook Steve's hand.It took a long time to calm down, "Alive? This question mark is really ridiculous. Everyone can use this question mark, but she doesn't need it."

"Instructor...where is she?" Steve asked.

"I don't know, she didn't tell me." Carter said regretfully. "Steve, find her and take care of her. She's my only concern."

. . . . .

"I'm sorry, Captain" Nick Fury said softly, looking at Steve with a gloomy face.

"How much longer...?"

"It's not much, we tried our best, but... this is the end of fate. We can't do anything." Nick Fury looked sad.Peggy Carter has done too much for S.H.I.E.L.D., and she has been relied on by S.H.I.E.L.D. in the past dark ages.S.H.I.E.L.D. is her passion.

"I see....."

The part of the conversation between Steve and Carter is part of the plot of Captain America 2, so let’s borrow it here.Everything is foreshadowing for the protagonist.
