A Realistic Mount & Blade Game

#48 - Fierce battle in the breeze

“The wind is rising.”

Shen Mu stood on the balcony, slowly extending his hand, letting the breeze from behind caress his palm.

That cool breeze carried with it a special scent of wheat.

It was the refreshing breeze carrying the wheat scent from the endless fields of wheat in the Su Nuo Plain, now ripening and awaiting harvest, that just happened to blow past this apartment!

Or rather, it blew past Shen Mu's Swadian stronghold, within the range of its influence.

This also included the 45 Swadian infantrymen in front of the castle gate, who had reformed into a spear formation and were facing the enemy head-on.

It brought not only the coolness of the breeze, but also the familiar wheat scent of the Su Nuo Plain.

And a surge of morale that welled up from their chests!

“Kill! Kill! Kill!”

The unified battle cry erupted.

These 45 Swadian infantrymen, Tier 4 troops, all stood their ground, and began thrusting their well-made infantry spears at the approaching pig-men like waves!

Coupled with their thick, fan-shaped shields, they directly transformed into the hardest of reefs, standing unmoving in this 10-meter-wide central corridor!

“Snort, snort!”

For those surging pig-men, these Swadian infantrymen turned reefs were truly excessively sturdy.

The three-meter-long spears seemed to transform into a giant steel thorn bush before them.

It was a continuous thrust, retracting and extending like a venomous snake.

This made the pig-men in the front row subconsciously halt their charge.

They raised the flail hammers in their hands.

The originally excited pig faces now showed hesitation and fear.

They weren't stupid.

They had seen such spear formations and pike squares in the human armies before the Spirit Realm shattered.

If they charged in, they feared they wouldn't be able to swing their flail hammers a few times.

Before several bloody holes would appear on their bodies!

Although they were wearing leather armor.

However, the leather armor only covered the torso and abdomen.

Their faces, necks, arms, and legs were still without armor.

If those human spearmen stabbed them hard in these unprotected areas, wouldn't they miserably die here, saying goodbye to the good life forever!?

“Snort! Don't charge! Stop!”

So, the pig-men in the front row were trying their best to stop their approaching footsteps.

Looking at the spears already close at hand, and the sharp spearheads, the pig faces no longer had much arrogance and ferocity, but instead revealed fear.

“Snort! Stop! Snort! Don't rush!”

Even more pig-men, out of fear, turned their heads and cursed at their clansmen behind them.

Because they couldn't stop.

More and more pig-men squeezed into this narrow corridor, only knowing that they were about to engage in a fierce battle, to kill all the humans.

So, all they could think about was the tender flesh of the humans, the wonderful brain matter mixed with blood.

Their mouths watered, and drool dripped from the corners of their mouths onto the thick leather armor of their bellies.

They were starving!

Therefore, they couldn't see that, right in front of them, as they excitedly crowded forward, some impatient shoving caused the pig-men in front, even if they wanted to use their hooves to push back, were getting closer and closer to the human spear formation because of the force pushing forward, watching the spearheads getting bigger and bigger!

Then, in the excited gazes of these Swadian infantrymen, with tightly clenched teeth, they completely entered the attack range of the spear formation.

‘Puff, puff, puff, puff!’

Then came the sharp spears, one after another, continuous stabs!

The spears, carefully forged by the blacksmiths in the towns of the Swadian Kingdom, now demonstrated the professionalism and quality that had been added during their meticulous crafting.

Used by the Swadian infantrymen, who had experienced bloody battles on the Calradia continent and had developed great strength.

Their use of polearms had reached a level of proficiency where they could really hit wherever they wanted!

In one exchange.

These cunning spearheads either pierced through the necks of these pig-men, or directly stabbed into their faces.

The spears that followed aimed at the arms and legs exposed outside the leather armor.

“Awoo, awoo, awoo, awoo!”

This directly caused the pig-men in the front row to let out painful wails.

Then, before these pig-men could fall down due to the sudden heavy blow, just as they revealed a flaw, wildly swinging their flail hammers to deflect the incoming spears because of the pain.

These Tier 4, elite Swadian infantrymen, their eyes lit up.

The power of their waists and abdomens instantly transmitted to their arms.

Cooperating with the opportunity their eyes had found.

‘Puff!’

With just one thrust.

Instantly, from a pig-man's mouth, which had opened wide in pain to scream, the spearhead was thrust into the throat, and then from the back of the head, with some tofu-like substance, it was pierced through and thrust out!

This was not an isolated case.

Within a few tens of seconds of contact between the two sides, more than a dozen pig-men crashed to their knees on the ground.

The smell of blood began to permeate.

As the breeze from the Su Nuo Plain blew past, it began to spread throughout the corridor.

It even stimulated the pig-men, who smelled the rich taste of blood, and even more frantically crowded forward, howling angrily in the back, as if they were angry for missing the upcoming human flesh feast.

But coincidentally, it pushed the pig-men who became the new row to the front, in front of the spear formation again, becoming new pig heads on the chopping board!

Swadian light infantry were already the main infantry force of the Swadian Kingdom.

Not to mention the stronger Tier 4 Swadian infantry?!

Perhaps in field battles or sieges, these Swadian infantrymen were not as defensive as the Rhodok Veteran Spearmen of the same level, not as capable of fighting and resisting with battle axes and shield as the Vaegir infantry of the same level, not as strong in attack power as the Nordsmen, who were known as the strongest infantry, and not as cost-effective as the Sarranid infantry.

However, in a narrow environment, in a confined space, these Swadian infantrymen with the best armor and polearms of the same level…

They were truly extremely qualified, heavy infantry who could withstand the enemy's surging and continuous attacks!

If it was the regular tactics of the Swadian Kingdom.

Now, it was time for the Swadian heavy cavalry to start attacking the enemy's ranged archers, and partly, like giant hammers, to charge at those enemies who were dragged in place by the infantry, completely crushing the enemy's line.

But now, in the narrow space of this apartment building, the Swadian heavy cavalry was not the protagonist.

Because the next to appear, were those ranged crossbowmen who were already ready on the balcony, in the tower.

All holding war crossbows and light crossbows, poking their heads out through the firing ports, watching the hundreds of pig-men surging over like waves, it was time for them to put their fingers on the triggers!

“All! Free fire!”

Shen Mu said in a deep voice.
