Abyssal Distortion Files

#47 - Chapter 047: Prepare for the decisive battle with the ancestor snake!

Chen Ye looked at the city before him. Although the upcoming battle had been moved to the surface, it wouldn't affect the city.

They couldn't possibly bury explosives in the city center, even though doing so might greatly increase their chances of success.

After all, there's a clear difference in plausibility between digging a hole in the wilderness and stockpiling a large amount of metal in a warehouse in the city.

Of course, if the plan itself was a calculated move, and the other side knew it was a trap, then the whole thing wouldn't be very meaningful.

Ultimately, it still depended on whether the Yellow Springs Serpent dared to take the risk.

Just then, Chen Ye heard his sister's voice. It seemed Chen Yao had become much more talkative since going to school.

But at that moment, Chen Ye's attention was focused entirely on other matters.

"Sometimes I'm not even sure what I'm doing. When Yao Yao was tormented by illness, the only thing I could think about… was making sure Yao Yao survived."

"To that end, I began to recklessly use my abilities, as if I'd found a reason to abuse them at will."

"Fortunately, I accomplished this very easily."

"Yao Yao welcomed her new life, but I always felt like something was missing."

"I have the ability to create monsters, so why can't I make them obey me? There must be more I can do."

"It was only after this thought appeared that I realized the meaning behind the word 'beginning'."

Everything only happens zero times or countless times, just like what Li Yang said when they first met.

What has been will be again, what has been done will be done again.

It had only been a month, but Chen Ye felt like a year had passed. It wasn't that the days dragged on, but that too much had happened.

"Fundamentally speaking, I don't care whether the Earth is destroyed or not. I only care what impact the Earth's destruction would have on Yao Yao."

Although it was just a metaphor, it was truly Chen Ye's current mindset. What do I care about the life and death of others?

If a monster destroyed a city, Chen Ye would think that monster was strong.

But if Chen Yao was in that city, then Chen Ye would think that monster was dangerous and had to be eliminated!

This kind of thinking was twisted.

All lives are equal.

But people are not. Even Chen Ye couldn't treat everyone equally. He simply wasn't interested in things that didn't interest him.

As for the words he had spoken…

Words spoken are always just words.

Although the Church's tenets of justice, equality, and order were correct, the inspiration for this came from Li Yang.

So Chen Ye had felt from the start that Li Yang was more suitable to be the leader of the Church.

As the cause of everything, and the culprit behind the monsters' descent to Earth, all the blame could actually be pushed onto Chen Ye.

Because that was the truth.

A good brother isn't necessarily a good person; those are two different things.

Li Yang really hadn't wronged Chen Ye. He really was the mastermind behind everything, and he had been the driving force behind almost everything.

Contacting the mystical, guiding people to become Mystics, the battle between Wei Jing and Li Yang—he had been pulling the strings behind the scenes in every case.

And his purpose in doing all this wasn't just for his sister, but also to fill the desires he craved in his heart.

Pleasure was just a sweet excuse.

Several days later, the bait tactic was still underway.

More and more metal was being transported to an underground base outside the city. United Nations troops were stationed there, and the area was under high alert.

Fully armed soldiers lined up in rows, forming a perimeter.

But within that formation were two conspicuous figures. Li Yang and Zhou Mo were also wearing military uniforms, but they weren't in the ranks.

"And they're still willing to help you?" Zhou Mo said, looking at the leather gloves on his hands.

Li Yang replied, "You're wrong. It's precisely because of that that they're helping me."

"We trust each other. We have similar experiences. We all once had that dream."

"To disregard the eyes of the world and use our own strength to eliminate all the scum in the world."

"But as soldiers, our only mission is to obey orders, so I left the military and decided to dedicate the rest of my life to this cause."

Zhou Mo laughed. "Disregard the eyes of the world, huh… You killed a criminal, so you became a criminal yourself."

"You might be able to kill a thousand evil people, ten thousand evil people, but at that point, you'll become the greatest evil in their eyes."

"Because we're not gods. We have no right to judge good and evil according to our own hearts."

God?

Li Yang turned his head. "I don't know what you mean by God, but whether it's the mystical or monsters, those things that call themselves gods aren't even human. What right do they have to judge humanity?"

"So if there is a god in this world, it will only be our enemy."

"That's right."

Zhou Mo not only didn't deny Li Yang's view, but affirmed it. "That's what I think too. I don't believe in any of that bullshit about gods."

"If gods cared about the life and death of humans, cared about the injustice between humans, then the three bastards who killed my brother would have died long ago."

"So, no matter what, only power is the unchanging truth."

"Is there something wrong with meeting violence with violence? Who judges good and evil? Who defines right and wrong? It's nothing more than two things: the strong and the weak."

The strong and the weak.

"It's just a matter of perspective. We all stand on our own sides to look at the world, so naturally what we see is different," Li Yang said, looking around.

He didn't know if the Seer's eyes were nearby, and he couldn't determine who the Seer's informants were. That was the most difficult thing to guard against.

So even if Li Yang wanted to tell Zhou Mo his suspicions, he couldn't speak carelessly.

The Seer might be watching them, or might be listening to their conversation.

The Seer was all-seeing and all-hearing; one always had to be careful of eavesdroppers.

"Speaking of which, aren't you going to help them?"

Zhou Mo looked at the soldiers transporting the metal and said, "With your ability, it should be easy to help them carry the metal down."

Li Yang still crossed his arms in front of his chest. "You're right, but I don't want to move."

Huh?

Is he this kind of person?

Zhou Mo looked at Li Yang with some surprise. It was hard to imagine those words coming from him.

"Do you know how heavy my leg is? Just moving myself requires a lot of energy."

"And in order to face the hard battle ahead, I must conserve as much energy and stamina as possible."
