American Comics: BOSS Invasion
#933 - beggar
Perhaps being born a Shandong person means being a Shandong person for life.
After wandering around the Jin Dynasty, Qi Shan decided to settle in the Shandong area.
This place is temporarily occupied by the Jin Dynasty. The economy of the barbarians is very different from that of the Southern Song Dynasty, especially in the Shandong West Road and Shandong Road areas of Huaibei. The floods brought by the Yellow River have caused the people along the way to suffer unspeakably.
Everywhere he went, there were ragged and disheveled refugees.
Qi Shan certainly had the ability to help, but he didn't have the overflowing sympathy to directly take action, nor did he bother to urge the Jin Dynasty officials to provide disaster relief. He walked and watched, gradually arriving at Tai'an, nestled among the mountains.
It was already dark, and Qi Shan happened to walk to the Land God Temple outside Laiwu County, so he simply settled down here.
The temple had already been occupied by a group of beggars, old and young. The most conspicuous of them were probably a group of disheveled, scrawny beggar children.
A well-dressed, clean and particular person like Qi Shan suddenly appearing among a group of beggars was quite eye-catching.
From the moment Qi Shan entered, he was almost stared at by everyone.
He sized up the layout of the temple. It was built who knows how many years ago and was already dilapidated. Most of it had collapsed inside, and the clay statue was missing its head.
When Qi Shan took out a plate of braised pig knuckles from who knows where and deliberately poured it into a small pot he carried with him, heating it over the charcoal, the beggars couldn't help but surround him.
The firelight shone on everyone's faces, demonizing their emotions.
Qi Shan pretended not to know, and slightly stirred the pig knuckles with his chopsticks. The aroma spread instantly after heating, and the two large white steamed buns that were finally taken out became the last straw that broke the camel's back.
The beggars could no longer restrain themselves and rushed up with a shout.
Qi Shan didn't even turn his head, first put the buns in the pot to continue heating, and then smashed back with a backhand punch.
The beggar was struck as if by lightning, his eyeballs almost popping out. He staggered back a few steps, clutching his chest, knocking down several beggars.
As the aroma spread, the beggars, who were already driven mad by hunger, didn't care about anything else. Even if they died, they would die a full ghost.
They surged forward one after another, like hungry hounds besieging Qi Shan, this fierce tiger.
They believed that there was strength in numbers. Even if Qi Shan was powerful, he was still just one person. He would get tired, and as long as he was slightly negligent, they would rush up and sweep away all the food and gold and silver.
Unfortunately, the beggars didn't know that Qi Shan was not a fierce tiger, but a giant dragon.
Qi Shan didn't even look at them, his eyes were always fixed on the small pot, his left hand steadily gripping the handle, the dishes inside were calm and undisturbed.
Qi Shan sometimes squatted, sometimes sat down, sometimes threw a punch, sometimes kicked up a foot.
Each movement dodged a wave of attacks, and incidentally kicked several beggars directly away. In a short while, all twenty or thirty beggars in the entire Land God Temple were lying on the ground, their low moans forming a chorus.
Several beggar children looked at Qi Shan in horror, huddled together and shrank back.
They had never seen such a fierce person!
Qi Shan slowly sat down, his spotless white young master's attire remained immaculate.
He picked up a hot steamed bun, took a light bite, and nodded slightly.
Only then did he slowly turn around, look at the nearest beggar, and calmly asked: "Why did you attack me?"
This beggar had been punched in the stomach by Qi Shan, his internal organs were twisted together, and he couldn't even get up now. Cold sweat dripped from his head, his breathing was rapid, and he didn't even have the strength to escape.
Seeing Qi Shan's calm and unwavering gaze, the beggar was even more frightened. He squeezed out an ugly smile on his face and humbly said: "Young master... this young master... we were blind and offended you. Please be generous and don't bother with me. If possible, can you share some with us..."
"You still want to eat like this?"
Qi Shan got up and looked around, his eyes calmly saying: "Do you all think so?"
The beggars suppressed their moans to the lowest level, looking over with some fear and a few expectations. Even in pain, they couldn't help but desperately inhale the aroma and swallow their saliva.
"Please, young master, have mercy. We are all poor people with no way out. If we weren't really starving, we wouldn't..."
A beggar knelt on the ground, choked up after saying a few words, and kowtowed on the ground.
The remaining beggars struggled to get up, knelt on the ground and bowed, saying in unison: "Young master, have mercy, have mercy!"
"There is no mercy! But I need a few people to work for me!"
Qi Shan beckoned to the little boy sitting next to him.
The little boy was startled, a look of fear appeared on his face. He hesitated for a long time before shuffling forward.
"I see that your skin is fair and your hands and feet don't have calluses. You should be a child from a wealthy family in the future. Have you not studied?" Qi Shan asked.
The little boy nodded: "I have practiced writing for two years and learned to write with a teacher!"
"Very good!"
Qi Shan directly took a set of pen and ink from his sleeve and threw it into the little boy's arms: "I want to do some things and need some manpower. Those who are willing to follow me, as long as they abide by my rules, I guarantee you will have food to eat and clothes to wear.
What is your name?"
The little boy said: "My name is Zhang Ling!"
"Then Zhang Ling, you will be my book boy from now on. Count them up for me. Those who are willing to follow me and abide by my rules, ask for the number and come here to collect steamed buns!"
As Qi Shan spoke, he waved his hand and took out another package from who knows where. Inside was a dustpan with thirty or forty large white steamed buns neatly placed.
Zhang Ling's eyes widened.
"What are you looking at? Take a few for yourself first!"
Zhang Ling swallowed, seeing that Qi Shan was lowering his head, leisurely eating the pig knuckles, and didn't pay attention to him at all.
He hurriedly responded with a yes, stepped forward and grabbed two, hesitated for a moment, squatted down and spread out the pen and ink, neatly adding two names.
Zhang Ling, Zhang Qiao'er!
He took two more, turned around and stuffed them to the little girl he had been protecting, and then squatted down, registering from the side of the little beggar children while gnawing on a steamed bun.
Qi Shan watched the little guy register names and distribute steamed buns from afar, and took out a small pot of wine.
Turning his head to look at the moonlight outside, he thought: Then let's start from here!
