Chapter 17: Healing the Plague
Rhodes nodded to Phobath, agreeing to give the Athenians the shelter they needed.
“Thank you for your generosity beyond the gods of Olympus.” Phobas kowtowed to Rhodes again and again.
The latter couldn’t help but smile in his heart. Although it was rumored that the Greeks’ belief in the gods of Olympus was as solid as a rock, in the face of the desire to survive, their beliefs turned into dust after all.
“It’s not too late, go and tell your army to mobilize the people to help me find me,” Rhodes said.
“This…” Forbas turned his eyes away in shame, then stretched out a hand towards the door, “Sir, please, please, I will show you our current situation, and you will understand.”
Rhodes and Sig followed Phobbas, all the way to a clearing deep within the building.
A group of people lay neatly on a thin white cloth on the ground. Their faces were gray, and blood-colored festering wounds could be seen on their skin.
The blood on the neck spread like a black spider web, and the back was chilled by the pale and gray skin.
Everyone moaned feebly, and only the slight heaving of his chest made it known that he was alive.
The bare skin of the limbs has a large area of rotten flesh hanging on the ground, and the flies circled back and forth in the festering place, landing on the wound from time to time and feasting.
“Yeah ah~” Above the sky, the crow landed on the eaves, staring at the people on the ground with empty and dark eyes, every screeching sound seemed to laugh at the powerless actions of everyone.
Physicians in Athens came and went, overwhelmed, smearing green herbs on the festering skin of their patients.
“Cough cough… This doesn’t work either.” The leading doctor, wearing a yellow robe, coughed a few times from time to time. He scratched his red sha throat, trying to relieve the itch in his throat that he wanted to cough.
To be able to wear brightly colored clothing indicates that he is not of low status.
“As you can see.” Forbas looked at the crowd on the ground worriedly, “My soldiers have been eroded by the evil plague, and we don’t have any extra troops to help you.”
Rhodes looked at the soldiers guarding the clearing, all hunched over, sweat dripping from their foreheads, and looked exhausted.
To make matters worse, Rhodes saw the men start coughing violently from time to time.
“There is absolutely no protective measures against the plague, and this will only allow the plague to continue to spread.”
Rhodes picked up a dirty rag from the ground and found a tub of water to soak it in.
“What are you doing? That’s the water for patients to drink. Such a dirty cloth will contaminate the water source.” Forbas stood there and stretched out his hand, wanting to stop but not daring.
“This water has been polluted for a long time. The plague is so big, how can the water source be clean.” Rhodes explained as he picked a few stones on the ground and threw them into the water tank.
“Is there any salt?” he asked several white-robed assistants who were circling around the yellow-robed doctor.
“Uh…” They looked at Phobas uneasily and hesitated to answer. After all, salt is a very valuable thing. Although this stranger seems to be of high status, he cannot call it casually.
“What do you want salt for?” Phobath asked.
“I want to make some high-concentration brine, and the rocks on the ground don’t have enough salt, so I need a lot of coarse salt.”
“Concentration?” Phobbas’ level of knowledge couldn’t understand Rhodes’ words at all, but when he thought that Rhodes was a magic soldier from Asgard, he made up his mind and decided to gamble.
“Anyway, I trust you, and we’ll find salt for you.”
After Phobbas stepped back, Rhodes called Sieg to his side.
“Asgard’s medical technology should be more than enough to treat them.”
Sieg nodded, and then sighed helplessly, “Although it is easy to treat them, the plague has spread, and it is impossible for us to treat the entire population of Athens.”
Seeger looked at the doctors, who had already started coughing violently while they were talking, apparently because of the excessive close contact with the patient that he was also infected.
The thought of these people returning home at night and the further spread of the plague to his family made Sig feel powerless.
“If you want to treat the people of Athens and wipe out the plague, you must at least call Asgard’s army to come down to earth. At most, the two of us can complete the treatment of these soldiers on the ground.”
Rhodes nodded. “That’s enough.”
Having said that, Phobbas has brought people back, and they are holding large pieces of light yellow solid in their hands. The purification technology of this era has made the salt in his hand the highest purity refined salt.
“Sir, this is all the refined salt in Athens now, you can use it as you like.”
Rhodes took the salt block, threw it into the water tank without mercy, and stirred it up with his spear.
During the stirring process of Rhodes’ spear, the salt block collided with the spear, turned into pieces, and then slowly dissolved in the spiral water flow.
After stirring for a long time, Rhodes saw that there were some undissolved solids left at the bottom of the tank. Rhodes knew that the water in the tank was already high-concentration brine, and it had reached the maximum level of dissolution and could not continue to dissolve.
He took out the cloth that had been soaked in it, twisted it half dry, and tore it into strips that could enclose the length of a person’s jaw.
“Distribute these to everyone present,” Rhodes ordered.
Phobbas took the cloth, his eyes full of doubts, he couldn’t understand why Rhodes soaked the cloth with salt water, but he distributed it to the soldiers and doctors.
All who received the strip cast their eyes on Rhodes in confusion, hoping for an explanation. *
