American comics: Starting with Luke the Maker
#291 - Infinite Series: Next【Medium】Team Gathering
On a remote island.
"Are you trying to scare me?" A woman in military uniform held the tip of a sword against Hal's throat.
"I can guarantee that what I'm saying is true. If you pay attention to the outside world, you should know what happened in Gotham. This isn't a hoax or a joke." Hal raised his hands, not caring about the sword tip against his throat, and said earnestly.
"So, you plan to form a group, an alliance of all the strong individuals who can help, to deal with the so-called external crisis?" Seeing Hal's fearless expression, the woman twirled the sword lightly and retracted it.
"Yes, that's our plan. I've heard some legends about you. It wasn't easy to find you; we spent a lot of time searching and investigating." Hal saw the retracted sword, tilted his head slightly, and lowered his raised hands.
"Powerful energy collisions did occur in the direction of Gotham some time ago, and one of the energies was indeed evil. This matches what you said. I came out this time to investigate the source of that power," the woman said. "It seems you are involved."
"No, we are witnesses." Hal was reluctant to recall. Although Thanos didn't try to kill him, and in a way, even helped him resolve the Parallax threat and restore his freedom of thought, the other party's deeds and the pain of having his soul torn in two made it impossible for him to be grateful to Thanos.
"I can join temporarily if you demonstrate enough strength to earn my trust," the woman said softly. "But if your team is immature or disorganized, I will choose to go it alone."
"Of course, we won't force you on that point," Hal nodded.
"Then let's go. On the way, you can tell me who you've already invited and who you're still inviting." The woman looked up at the sky, a knowing smile on her face.
"Better safe than sorry." Seeing the woman's gaze, Hal realized that she had noticed the anomaly in the sky and smiled awkwardly. At the same time, he used his ring to notify his partner in the sky who was acting as a backup.
A moment later, a green light fell from the sky like a comet, rapidly descending towards the island where Hal and the woman were.
"Looks like everything is going smoothly." The green light dissipated, and a Green Lantern revealed himself before Hal, his eyes sweeping over the woman before landing on Hal.
"Yes, everything is going smoothly. We can head back now," Hal shrugged.
"Please come aboard." The burly Green Lantern, covered in muscles, used the energy of his ring to create a native-style aircraft, gesturing for Hal and the woman to come up.
"Ms. Diana?" Hal gently called out the woman's name, signaling her with his eyes to enter the aircraft's interior.
"Very interesting energy shaping," Diana praised appreciatively, stepping forward into the craft.
"Thank you for the compliment. This man, like me, is a Green Lantern. Do you know about Green Lanterns? It's this green ring I wear on my hand. It has incredible power and can amplify an ordinary person into a superhuman. Speaking of Superman, he's on our team and was once a partner who faced Parallax and Thanos.
Besides Superman, we also went to find a few others, one is the King of Atlantis, and another is a speedster. There are a few more, but I left in a hurry."
Hal's voice faded into the air as the aircraft's door closed.
...
A certain island on the ocean at night.
The sky was devoid of starlight, covered in dark clouds, and heavy rain poured down. The howling sea breeze stirred up turbulent waves, forming a high sea wall.
"This is quite the production, isn't it? Just the entrance is impressive. But, is it necessary? Do you humans love grand displays? Oh, sorry, you're not human, but a Kryptonian survivor. Did I touch a nerve? My apologies." A simple-looking man scratched the back of his head, awkwardly apologizing to Superman beside him.
"It's okay, but I hope you can talk less during the upcoming negotiations, okay?" Superman Clark sighed. He had realized that his teammate had a sharp tongue, but the key was that he didn't mean any harm. What could he do?
"Of course, Hal said we should listen to you in everything, so we will," the honest Green Lantern nodded vigorously.
"He's here." Superman was about to say something, but instantly seemed to realize something and suddenly looked towards the wind and waves.
A wave tens of meters high crashed onto the sea surface. Under his gaze, the sea surface cracked open, like a fissure in the earth, separating the waves. A man wielding a trident weapon was propelled upwards from the depths by a surging sea current. With the trident's movements, the sea current obediently supported him, winding an arc on the sea surface and landing on the island where Superman and the others stood.
The waves crashed onto the island, then retreated back into the sea with a crash.
"I've seen the information you sent to Atlantis, and now it's time for me to give you my answer," Aquaman Arthur Curry said softly. "I can choose to join, but only to help you fight Thanos."
"We're forming this alliance only to deal with this disaster," Superman said.
"Let's go. I've arranged the affairs of Atlantis. For a while, I can be stationed with you," Aquaman looked at the two men and added, "Do you need me to lend you some transportation?"
"No, he can quickly take you back to base," Superman pointed to the silent Green Lantern.
...
"This is so cool, isn't it?" A boy named Barry Allen said excitedly to Batman.
"This is not cool at all, kid," Batman replied calmly.
"That's not what I meant. I mean, it's great that I can help you guys," Barry said incoherently.
"You're a good kid, follow me."
A Batplane slowly descended vertically from the night sky, then opened its hatch on the ground. Batman strode towards the stairs of the hatch, then turned his head before the hatch and looked at Barry, who was still standing there dumbfounded, tilted his head, and gestured for him to come up.
Receiving Batman's signal, Barry immediately scurried onto the Batplane, his speed so fast that it was like a gust of wind blowing past Batman. By the time Batman turned around, the other party was already sitting upright in the co-pilot's seat, his hands restlessly touching the seat, his eyes scanning the interior of the aircraft with interest.
