American comics: Starting with Luke the Maker
#30 - First Step
Everything is difficult at the beginning.
Plans are just plans.
Looking at the progress bar in his mind, representing the energy drained and sealed from the entire Cybertronian industrial complex, yet not even moving a bit, Luke was now pondering how to accumulate his first pot of gold to start his business. According to his calculations, even if he drained the world's energy and electricity, it probably wouldn't be enough.
More powerful, more vast, and higher density energy might be needed to push forward the first step of Luke's plan.
So, where could he find such energy?
Lost in thought, Luke couldn't help but raise his head, looking at the ceiling of the laboratory, his gaze seemingly passing through the ceiling and directly into the boundless sky.
The sun?
It was a vast and usable energy source, and Luke indeed possessed the technology to efficiently utilize the sun's energy. However, the time spent manufacturing equipment, as well as the manpower and support required, would waste too much time. Moreover, the nearest one in the sky was not easy to get his hands on.
Ancient One?
Luke really wanted to follow behind the Ancient One and happily fleece the dimensional demons. But that was temporarily impossible. He currently had no method or technology to find the Ancient One.
So, the remaining, most promising option seemed to be that person.
The Director of S.H.I.E.L.D.
Nick Fury!
Luke didn't care about S.H.I.E.L.D., and Luke didn't care about Nick Fury, but he currently cared a lot about the Tesseract managed and preserved by them.
Compared to the risks involved with the previous two options, it seemed that薅ing S.H.I.E.L.D., under Nick Fury's management, was the least costly and most likely to succeed. He wasn't greedy, nor did he want to monopolize the Tesseract or other Infinity Stones. He just wanted to薅 some wool to accumulate the first bit of starting energy to activate his progress bar. Was that too much to ask?
So, should he expose more things to make Nick Fury pay more attention to him and recruit him into that yet-to-be-established organization? Joining that organization would inevitably put him closest to the Tesseract, and it would be the best way to tamper with it without provoking Nick Fury, Stark, and the others. After all, once I join you, we're all in the same boat. When the Chitauri invasion really happens, taking the opportunity to consume some energy might even make everyone grateful to him.
Of course, besides that, there was also a backup plan B.
[Black Nightmare Seeds].
These so-called [seeds] were also a kind of peculiar energy-collecting device that Luke couldn't fully understand yet, and their method of collecting energy was even more bizarre.
But did Luke dare to use them on the planet he lived on?
Although he was eager to try, reason still told Luke not to act like a villain and court death for the time being. Even if Stark and the others could do nothing to him, what if the Ancient One or someone else thought it was some kind of evil tentacle extended by a dimensional demon? Wouldn't he be jumping up and down then? Even if he hid it well and wasn't discovered, it would be too much of a loss if the energy wasn't collected sufficiently before being cleaned up.
However, not using the [Black Nightmare Seeds] on this planet didn't mean they couldn't be used elsewhere. After all, the [Black Nightmare Seeds] possessed some characteristics of dimensional travel. Of course, Becky's dimensional positioning technology had not been brushed out yet, nor had it been conquered yet, so the deployment area could only be random.
If it weren't for the randomness and luck, and if the [Black Nightmare Seeds] could choose a host based on their screening rules after being deployed to a certain dimensional world or cosmic region, perhaps plan B's [Black Nightmare Seeds] would be more suitable as the main energy plan to start the first step.
As for the potentially adverse consequences caused by the deployed [Black Nightmare Seeds], what did that have to do with Luke?
Even if someone traced it back to this star system, this planet, before he grew up, there would still be taller people to hold up the sky. Which genius scientist in this world hasn't had accidents during experiments that led to world crises? If you haven't achieved this near-world-ending feat, how dare you call yourself a genius scientist?
After thinking it through, Luke no longer hesitated and divided the only batch of [Black Nightmare Seeds] he had into two parts and deployed them.
One part was to the starry sky of this world.
The other part was to another dimensional world that he could vaguely sense, where he had once been.
After the deployment, all that was left was to wait and see which host the [Black Nightmare Seeds] would choose and what the environment would be like. As for how long the waiting time would be, because the number of [Black Nightmare Seeds] in his hand was limited, Luke couldn't rely on a large-scale, wide-net approach to reduce the time for screening hosts. The issues of regional distribution and diffusion were all up to fate.
For example, if the deployed area happened to have intelligent civilizations and life, then everyone would be happy. If the deployed area happened to be a dead zone, then he could only wait for a long time, waiting for the opportunity. Therefore, after the [Black Nightmare Seeds] were deployed, Luke's main plan still depended on Nick Fury.
As for stealing?
Luke didn't have that intention. Luke would only make that decision if there were no other choices or methods, and he was at his wit's end. That was a decision only a gambler who could only make a desperate bet would make.
...
"I regret to inform everyone of a piece of news. Yesterday, due to an exercise, a Raptor fighter jet crashed. Fortunately, there were no casualties." Air Force Colonel James Rhodes, as the spokesperson, stood on the podium, downplaying the loss of a Raptor fighter jet with a single sentence, and then moved on to the next topic without waiting for reporters to ask questions.
"As for the Camille incident, we still don't know who the intervening force is..."
...
On the virtual projection in front of Luke, one side was James Rhodes' public report, and the other side was a figure of a steel battle suit flying flexibly in the air. In the picture, there was also a Raptor fighter jet crashing in flames and a parachuting pilot.
"Did Stark buy another batch of metal?"
"TI-2217-FZ. New type of titanium alloy material. Unit price of $175/gram. Purchase volume of two tons." Bai Hou called up the transaction list with Stark.
"Pay attention to Tony Stark, no, pay attention to Obadiah Stane's movements at Stark Industries. If you find anything unusual, notify me immediately." Luke originally wanted to monitor Tony Stark, but after thinking about Tony's intelligence and his smart butler Jarvis, to avoid accidents, he focused his attention on Obadiah Stane.
Building a friendship and obtaining Nick Fury's invitation always requires a suitable time and place to achieve twice the result with half the effort.
PS1: I'm stuck on the angle of inserting subsequent plots. Subsequent chapters may have a change of perspective to the transfer of the Black Nightmare...
