American comics: Starting with Luke the Maker
#317 - Conqueror: Soul Network [Part 2]
A dazzling pillar of light descended from the dark sky, crashing heavily onto the ground.
Having broken free from the enchantment, the rampaging Elios immediately noticed the pillar of light. Its black mist-like body rolled across the ground, rapidly approaching the light's location.
After the brilliant light dissipated, a young figure was revealed. He wore a white, somewhat disheveled lab coat, his hair a bit messy, and he held a cat in his right hand, its limbs dangling as it licked its lips.
Silent roars accompanied Elios's advance, devouring everything in its path with its dense, black mist-like body. At this moment, it revealed a massive head resembling a dog, snapping at the young man.
"Wow, look what I found! A rare life form! And a time-based one at that! It goes well with your spatial attributes. How about making it your little buddy?" Luke said with a grin, raising the cat in his hand. Amidst the cat's snarling meows, he tossed it towards Elios's gaping maw, like a bottomless abyss.
Meow!
The thrown cat tumbled in mid-air and was bitten by Elios. Just as it was about to devour Luke as well, it seemed to choke, shaking its head and coughing, as if trying to regurgitate what it had just swallowed.
The black, cloud-like body seethed violently, like churning clouds. Under Luke's watchful gaze, Elios, this wondrous storm lifeform, shrank continuously, eventually forming a funnel-shaped black tornado. At the very bottom was a gaping abyss-like mouth.
The cat, having swallowed Elios whole like a dragon sucking water, let out a satisfied burp. Its exploded, fluffy fur softened and lay flat again. Meowing, it jumped onto Luke's shoulder and repeatedly patted him on the head with its paws, making his already messy hair even more disheveled.
"Don't be angry, I'll feed you a space gem when we get back," Luke patted the cat's head, the force causing the cat's head to dip lower and lower, almost knocking it off his shoulder.
"Meow meow meow meow!" The cat was furious, standing upright with its two front paws like fists, raining down retaliatory blows, turning Luke's hair into a bird's nest.
"Alright, then let's change the flavor. I've used the newly acquired energy to concoct a superb 【Catnip】, would you like to try it? When we get back, you can go find your old caretaker, Nick. He just got a shipment from me." Luke deviously passed the trouble to Nick. He grabbed the cat from his shoulder with one hand, hugging it haphazardly, and vigorously stroked it from top to bottom, making its eyes widen as its scalp was massaged.
However, the cat was in no mood to pay attention to Luke's petting. Its pink tongue darted out, rapidly licking its mouth, with a faint hint of the 【River of Appetite】 overflowing in its oral cavity.
……
Inside the castle, Kang had explained the past and present of the Time Administration Bureau to Loki and Sylvie.
"So you're saying, you built the Time Administration Bureau to protect the stability and peace of this universe?" Loki Sylvie looked at Kang across from her strangely.
"Of course, if I hadn't accidentally discovered that peculiar lifeform outside, I wouldn't have been able to deal with those branching timelines. It can devour them," Kang nodded earnestly.
"Forgive me for being blunt, but are you overestimating your expectations? Do you really think that you, or rather, the you from other universes, can conquer the multiverse?" Loki found it a bit absurd.
The multiverse?
Of course, he knew the concept.
He even knew that the Energy Bank was making some rather long-term plans for it.
That was a field of leeks targeted by the Energy Bank's shareholders, and then you're telling me that your clones want to conquer the multiverse? Have you asked the Energy Bank? Have you asked the dimensional gods who have devoured countless dimensional worlds and universes? Have you asked that cunning and greedy guy?
Loki admitted that Kang was indeed playing with time in a sophisticated way, and that he might have researched or collected a lot of powerful technology with this ability. If there were no accidents, he might indeed be able to conquer some universes.
But the premise is not to be targeted by a certain cunning guy.
And what is obvious now is that the other party has been targeted by that cunning guy! Loki now understood what his lost memory was.
That cunning guy named Luke is treating the Time Administration Bureau you created as his own home, do you, the one being robbed, know that?
"Your eyes are a bit offensive," Kang looked at Loki's somewhat pitying gaze with confusion. Shouldn't it be shock and fear?
"Since you know our next move and have written them down on paper like a script, do you know everything that happened when I first arrived at the Time Administration Bureau?" Loki restrained Sylvie, who wanted to attack again, and asked Kang across from him.
"Of course, your every move is under my nose, and even arranged by me. I guided and controlled you to come here," Kang frowned.
"Then you must also know Luke of the Time Administration Bureau," Loki said.
"Luke? Who is Luke? Is there such a person in the Time Administration Bureau?" Kang looked at Loki in astonishment. This time, his time prediction seemed to have failed, and he could no longer predict the future. And this point was a little earlier than his original setting!
Everything Loki and the others said and did should have been within his observation and control, but just now, the other party said something he had not foreseen at all.
"So you're just like this," Loki breathed a sigh of relief, and a smile reappeared on his face. "I thought you were really omniscient and omnipotent. In the end, you're just like those mages, pretending to be gods and ghosts."
Of course, Loki would not think that Kang was really pretending to be a ghost. According to what the other party said, at least the other party's research strength and technical strength were at a very high level. This can be seen from the equipment of the Time Administration Bureau.
And with the blessing of technology, the other party's strength must not be weak either.
But since he couldn't know Luke's existence, it naturally meant that there was still some gap between the other party and Luke, that cunning guy. Loki didn't know how big this gap was, but from the level of information mastery, Kang's confrontation with Luke was obviously a complete defeat.
According to reason, this shouldn't be the case! After all, just like his multiverse clones, in similar universes with his universe as the framework, outstanding people will still be outstanding. Luke is not known by Kang, either his universe is special and cannot be observed, or Luke is special. There may also be an exception, that is, those mages helped Luke, or Luke himself concealed his time.
"Wait, did you bring other people here?" Kang suddenly seemed to realize something, and began to look around with a look of surprise and doubt.
