#332 - Kargath, the Plot of the King and the Mage
“Darkness is coming!”
Ner'zhul woke up abruptly from his sleep, once again thinking about the message the ancestral spirits had revealed to him. The message was so dark and oppressive that just recalling it in his mind filled him with despair.
The ancestral spirits told him that Draenor was dying, a powerful dark force was breeding within, and if a way to solve it couldn't be found, Draenor would have no future.
Ner'zhul wanted to ask the ancestral spirits where the darkness came from and what caused it, but his questions did not receive the appropriate response. Something unknown seemed to have happened to the ancestral spirits. Since then, he had lost the ability to communicate with them.
They no longer answered any of his questions or calls.
“Will the dead evil dragon be resurrected?
Or is it the continuous natural disasters that have led to the demise of life recently?
Or that mysterious High Priestess?”
Ner'zhul could only speculate based on the information at hand, but no matter what, he couldn't determine where the danger was coming from.
So when Gul'dan volunteered to be an envoy to meet the High Priestess in the Warsong Clan, Ner'zhul did not stop him, and even provided some convenience and orc guards.
But to this day, Gul'dan has been gone for a long time with his men, and there is still no news. This made the unease in his heart deepen again and again.
Ner'zhul felt that his spirit was stretched to the limit, and he felt the rarely seen anxiety and rage, sorrow and pain.
As time passed day by day, the war clouds of the orc clans might come at any time. In this tense situation, Ner'zhul finally received Gul'dan's message.
As the demons' lackey, Gul'dan was thrown to the four elemental spirits by the High Priestess. In the presence of all the orcs, the four elemental spirits decomposed Gul'dan's body.
Ner'zhul was shocked when he heard the news, but he had to believe it. Because those orc warriors he sent to guard Gul'dan told him all this.
They browsed Gul'dan's memories with all the orcs in the arena, and learned how he was targeted by a demon named Kil'jaeden and bewitched into depravity.
There was no doubt that the other party had a vicious and huge plan. Even the tip of the iceberg of this plan in Gul'dan's memory was enough to make the orcs angry and panic.
After understanding the slightest bit of that huge plan, including Ner'zhul, he almost subconsciously thought of the ancestral spirits' reminder.
He believed that the impending disaster revealed by the ancestral spirits came from this. That mysterious High Priestess might know more than he did.
“Prepare yourself, I need to see that High Priestess.” As soon as Ner'zhul thought of this possibility, he had an urge to see her immediately. He urgently wanted to see that mysterious High Priestess and verify something with her.
Before the appearance of that mysterious High Priestess, he, Ner'zhul, was the uncrowned king of all orc clans, or rather, his reputation was enough to earn the respect and courtesy of many orc clans.
“Where is she now?” Ner'zhul asked the Shadowmoon Clan orc warriors who had been sent back.
“Ogres. Their target is the ogres.” The orc warrior quickly said the information he had inquired about.
In fact, there was no need to inquire at all. The orc clans gathered under the High Priestess had been integrated into a violent war machine. They plundered all the resources on this planet and stored them. At the same time, according to the High Priestess's request, they continued to recruit more orc clans and more combat power.
And now, the other party obviously wanted to solve the ogres near their area first. That fanatical state of expedition and enthusiastic communication poured into their ears without any concealment or confidentiality constraints, and then they firmly remembered it in their hearts.
Orcs are not the only creatures on this planet. There are other races who live with them on this planet. They often have some wars.
Victory or defeat.
It's all a normal state under the witness of time.
And now, this cycle of normalcy will undoubtedly be ended. After integrating all the power of this planet, they will migrate life to another suitable planet to reproduce and thrive.
……
Ogre Arena.
An orc with disheveled hair, a ferocious face, and a gloomy aura was sitting quietly in a stone cell.
He was a slave, a bloody gladiator in the arena. His daily routine was fighting, getting injured, fighting, killing.
He had faced most of the races on this planet, including his own kind. His hands were covered with their blood. This dark and repetitive bloody routine almost twisted his spirit.
In addition to fighting every day, he had to endure all kinds of torture. This torture made him feel extremely painful, which forced him to change from fearing pain to enjoying pain.
His spirit had been distorted under this torture. The only thing that supported his spirit from completely collapsing was the little spark of hope in his heart like a flame.
This was also the motivation for him to persevere until now with a tenacious will without collapsing.
But as time went by, he had become a little numb. The hope in his heart and the last bit of reason were about to be completely swallowed by darkness and violence.
His thick arm swung, and the sound of metal clashing echoed in the stone cell. Kargath's other hand clenched his weapon, and he stared blankly at his bound arm with his eyes open.
He had been thinking about cutting off his arm more than once in his mind in exchange for some freedom of movement.
Suddenly, Kargath felt the erosion of some kind of energy.
This was not the first time he had felt this somewhat cold and dark energy. It was just that before, they were so weak that he could only vaguely feel the existence of this energy when he was extremely focused and in a certain mental state.
But now, his spirit and thinking were in an active state, but he suddenly felt this energy, and its existence became clearer and stronger.
Kargath suddenly realized that after waking up today, no ogres came to whip him, torture him, and drive him to the arena to fight.
He didn't know what was happening outside, but he vaguely guessed that the opportunity he had been longing for had come.
Kargath did not hesitate to cut off his bound arm with his hidden weapon, and then used tools to pry open the iron gate of the cell.
He had repeatedly rehearsed his escape plan countless times in his mind, including how to break free from his restraints, how to open the cage, how to solve the battle with the ogre warriors who found something wrong in the shortest possible time, and how to fight desperately to find a way out for himself.
And Kargath firmly believed that he was not the only one with this idea.
So when Kargath released the orc slaves in the stone cell one by one, the freed orcs gathered around him, helping him to rescue more orc slaves like a snowball.
This might cause a lot of noise and attract the ogre army, but they were not afraid.
However, this smoothness made Kargath and the others unbelievable.
Almost no ogre warriors came to stop them, and the only guards were killed in a very short time.
When they rushed out of the stone cell and appeared in the sunlight of the arena, they discovered the abnormality around them.
The sky was full of dark clouds. The black and gray clouds above them were like a vast vortex, surging with lightning and wind in a shocking scene.
The howling wind that tore the sky and the earth, accompanied by tornadoes connecting the sky and the earth, raged on this land belonging to the ogres, devouring and destroying everything.
The earth was shaking, and winding cracks were cracking from time to time. The scorching flames burned their eyes even more.
“Is the shaman summoning the power of the elements? But which shaman can control such a powerful elemental power that is almost a natural disaster?” An orc who knew something about it felt the violent elements around him and murmured.
“It seems that those ogres have been attacked.” A ferocious smile appeared on Kargath's face. He looked at the ogres scattered and fleeing under the natural disaster and issued a bloody declaration: “Let us go and kill wantonly.”
Roar!
The orc warriors standing behind him, most of whom were missing limbs or had been tortured all over their bodies, raised the weapons and fists they had scavenged in their hands, and followed Kargath, who rushed out first, towards the defeated ogre army.
……
Azeroth.
King Terenas Menethil of Lordaeron, who was in his prime, sat on his throne. Over the years, he had successfully made Lordaeron one of the most powerful kingdoms in the Eastern Kingdoms. Its powerful army even made his ambitions and wild desires continue to expand, and eventually gave birth to the idea of imitating Thoradin and unifying the human empire.
Once this idea was born, it could no longer be suppressed. He knew very well what doing so would bring, but as far as he could see, he had conquered the surrounding areas and expanded the territory. The only thing left that could make him feel passionate and impulsive was the goal of surpassing all kings and becoming a new king on par with Thoradin.
But this step was not so simple to take. The operation of the army, the supply of food, the expenditure of money, and the alliance of opponents were all issues that needed to be considered.
And the first step to completely expand and bring all the kingdoms of the Eastern Continent under his command was to face the mage kingdom of Dalaran.
He needed to carry out a long and meticulous plan. To succeed, it might take decades. During this period, marriage, alliance, suppression, and all kinds of means would need to be used.
“Your Majesty!”
Just as Terenas was thinking about the next plan, a familiar voice sounded. Terenas raised his head and looked at the court archmage Kel'Thuzad who was walking slowly from outside the door.
“It seems your trip to Dalaran was not pleasant, mage.” Terenas carefully looked at Kel'Thuzad's slightly gloomy face and smiled slightly.
“Archmage Antonidas issued me an ultimatum, prohibiting any further dangerous research and exploration of the Dragon Tower.” Kel'Thuzad's chest rose and fell slightly, gnashing his teeth to express the depression and unwillingness in his heart.
He had devoted so much time and spent so much thought, and was about to find a new path that could take his strength a step further, but suddenly his research was sanctioned and terminated by the higher authorities. This was like a bolt from the blue, directly causing his efforts to go down the drain.
Kel'Thuzad had never hated Dalaran as much as he did now, and hated the archmages of the Tirisgarde Council such as Antonidas.
In his opinion, they were simply a bunch of old stubborn people.
The establishment of Dalaran was for the convenience of magic research, but these people restricted the new path that he might have opened up for mages, which made Kel'Thuzad feel unprecedented dissatisfaction.
“You won’t listen to him, will you?” Terenas said softly, as if he had expected what kind of decision Kel'Thuzad would make.
“Of course not! This is all my effort! I am only one step away from success!” Kel'Thuzad gave his answer as expected.
He couldn't and wouldn't let go!
He obtained a huge amount of unknown and powerful magic knowledge from there. They were gorgeous, charming, and possessed the danger they should have. It was a completely different system of magic, a system that might have higher growth and greater potential than the arcane system!
He was only one step away from pushing open that door. As long as he pushed it open, he could obtain endless power and knowledge. How could he stop researching at this time?
“You will support me! Won’t you, Your Majesty?” Kel'Thuzad looked at Terenas, his eyes slightly nervous. The only people he could rely on now were the court mages of Lordaeron and King Terenas in front of him.
“Of course, you selflessly shared the knowledge you gained with the court mages of Lordaeron, and helped Lordaeron build a lot of magic scrolls and equipment over the years as agreed. Our grand plan has just begun, how could it stop here?” Terenas’s firm answer made a smile appear on Kel'Thuzad’s gloomy face.
If he relied on himself alone, his research would have to be postponed for a long time. What was worse, the key to the Dragon Tower was still in Terenas’s hands.
The king had been delaying for a long time with many excuses and had not handed over the key to other kingdoms for rotation as agreed.
“However, our current strength is not enough. You can continue your research, but it must be secret and not exposed.” Terenas reminded.
“Please rest assured, Your Majesty, I am more eager for the moment of success than anyone else. In a few years, we will master the knowledge and power to change the world!” Kel'Thuzad nodded.
