American comics: Starting with Luke the Maker
#35 - The storm ends [please read and collect]
Luke believed that the material technology of the Pacific Rim world was commendable, especially the metal materials used to manufacture mechs. In addition to meeting standards for toughness, ductility, extreme pressure resistance, and hardness, they also needed to possess excellent shock resistance and kinetic energy absorption properties. Otherwise, with that weight, which was relatively thin compared to its size, and could even be described as a layer of thicker iron sheet, how could they engage in hand-to-hand combat with the Precursors' bio-weapons?
How could they survive a fall from ten thousand meters without the mech being destroyed?
While there were certainly factors such as shock absorption, auxiliary thrusters, and mech structure, the material was the foundation of it all!
Having mastered all the mech material manufacturing technologies of the Pacific Rim world, Luke, after sorting and improving them upon his return, created the latest type of metal material, TZ-92 titanium alloy. This was the primary outer material for the customized mechanical battle suits worn by Snoke and others. Its manufacturing technology was stored as a confidential part of Hephaestus's technological foundation.
As for what was sold publicly, it was naturally the mech manufacturing material between the first and second generations. This was the TI titanium alloy series that Tony Stark and major friendly businesses had been purchasing in large quantities recently.
When it comes to maximizing commercial profits, who would initially waste their best technology, before the previous generation technology posed a threat, and while maintaining sufficient, if not overwhelming, advantage?
If one had to position Luke's refined and improved TZ92 titanium alloy in this world, it would roughly be equivalent to a castrated, beggar version of Captain America's shield. It didn't have that indestructible characteristic, nor did it have that perfect kinetic energy absorption and other extreme properties; it had its limits and flaws. But even so, you couldn't deny its excellence.
...
"Director, a new figure has appeared."
The SHIELD agent at the scene reported the situation to their boss, Nick Fury. The military was also paying attention to the Stark Industries battle, having received the news. Especially Tony's friend, Air Force Colonel James Rhodes, looked worried when he saw Mark II being overwhelmed by Iron Monger on the battlefield.
He had wanted to come and help when Tony Stark asked him to clear the surrounding airspace of aircraft beforehand, but Tony Stark had refused. But now, seeing Tony rush over and essentially deliver himself as cannon fodder, he was having an intense internal struggle: should he uphold his promise to Tony and not go, or should he ignore Tony and bring people to help?
This feeling of anxiety and apprehension only subsided somewhat when Snoke's mechanical battle suit appeared and Tony was temporarily out of danger.
Triskelion.
Nick Fury stood in front of the window, which had transformed into a giant screen, displaying the Stark Industries battlefield in minute detail. Nick Fury looked at the unfamiliar Iron Man who was cooperating with Tony Stark, switching between multiple battlefields, and ultimately used the large Arc Reactor in the Stark Industries 16th factory exhibition area to destroy Iron Monger's indestructible iron shell. His gaze was solemn as he softly said, "New trouble?"
...
The Stark Industries incident could not be concealed at all. Too many people had witnessed the three Iron Men's fierce battle, and some were even injured or frightened as a result.
Therefore, before dawn, news about the Iron Man battle at Stark Industries had already appeared on the websites of major media outlets. And by the time it dawned, the online trend had shifted multiple times, changing the hottest topics several times.
Who is Iron Man?
That was what everyone, including reporters, wanted to know now.
With such a big incident, whether it was Stark Industries or other parties, someone needed to stand up, convene a press conference, and provide an explanation to the public and the victims.
Standing in front of the stage to deal with the reporters was Air Force Colonel James Rhodes, looking uncomfortable and wearing a serious expression. As the official spokesperson, he held a script in his hand and recited it in a serious, solemn, and proper tone. The general content of the script was about the economic losses and casualties caused by the explosion of the Arc Reactor in Stark Industries.
When did he, a dignified Air Force Colonel, become Tony's designated ass-wiper?
James Rhodes recited the script while multitasking, absentmindedly reflecting on himself. When he finally finished reading the script and it was time for the reporters to ask questions, the reporters below the stage instantly became active from their previously drowsy state.
"Who are those three Iron Men?"
The reporters directly skipped the boring question of the reactor explosion and asked straight to the point.
James Rhodes smiled. "We are currently discussing the casualties and public losses at Stark Industries. Next."
"Does the official also not know the identities of the three Iron Men? Do you think they will appear again in the future?"
The next reporter went against the tide, directly ignoring James' words and shifting the topic back to Iron Man.
James Rhodes tried his best to maintain the smile on his face, looking at the reporter who asked the question. The reporter stared at him intently, with a clear message in his eyes: Who cares about the reactor explosion, we want to hear about Iron Man!
James Rhodes even read from their eyes the meaning of: "If you can't do it, replace him with that big-mouthed Stark."
At this moment, Tony Stark, who was preparing to go on stage in the backstage, was being personally guided by Agent Phil Coulson of SHIELD, who had a friendly expression, on how to speak on stage.
"You guys are really resourceful."
Tony Stark flipped through the various proofs in his hand, such as his alibi for that night, and even photos of his date with Pepper as proof.
"I'll take that as a compliment."
Phil Coulson handed the script to Tony again: "I know you're too lazy to write a script, so our people have already written it for you. You just need to go up and read it, and present the proof when the reporters question you. After that, everything will be taken over and handled by us. It will subside soon and won't disturb your life."
"Too considerate."
Tony took the script, flipped through it casually, and glanced at Phil Coulson.
"This time, I'll just thank you for your compliment."
Phil Coulson smiled.
"Do you know who that Iron Man who helped me is?"
Tony suddenly asked. He was extremely curious about the Iron Man who had helped him last night and then left. The Iron Man's battle suit had a different style, and its technology seemed to be more mature than his Mark battle suit! The energy it used also seemed to be different from his Arc Reactor.
He had always thought that his Mark battle suit technology was unique, but that person clearly told him that his idea was wrong!
"I'm sorry, we're also looking for him."
Phil Coulson's tone was tight.
"It's your turn to go on stage."
Pepper stepped forward to straighten his collar and whispered to him. Tony started walking towards the podium. He casually threw the script on the ground.
Read the script?
When has he, Tony Stark, ever been an obedient person?
