Anime: About That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime
#57 - ·Both parties with bad intentions
“To live…”
Sally was stunned by the words of the Adventurers' Guild staff. She recalled the war she had witnessed, where all the monsters seemed to have gone mad, launching suicidal attacks. Even with their bodies torn apart, heads barely attached, they would still try to kill the enemies before them.
Yet, these monsters, so desperate to live, died just like that… What a waste.
“Who knows? They're just monsters anyway. It's better if they all die.”
Across from her, the Adventurers' Guild staff smiled at Sally's muttering, then lowered his head and resumed his work. As he said, to humans, the only good monster was a dead monster. Who cared why those monsters were launching suicidal attacks?
It's not like anyone would share their food with monsters just because they were starving… No, people would only wish they would all starve to death.
“Alright, here is the reconnaissance mission you accepted, Adventurer.”
At that moment, the Adventurers' Guild staff handed Sally a mission sheet, marked with the location she needed to scout and the reward.
“Thank you.”
Sally casually took the mission sheet, glanced at it, and left the Adventurers' Guild, heading straight towards the city's exit. She walked in silence, until she reached the city gate, handed the mission sheet to the guard, and walked out after the guard confirmed it.
“Sally, are you sad for those monsters?”
On the dirt road, filled with dust and gravel, Lu Minghao reached out and gently stroked Sally's hair, looking at Sally, who had been silent since earlier.
“No, not at all! Sally was just thinking, it's so good that Sally can eat dirt and be full. And those monsters were such a waste!”
In the next second, Sally reached out, took Lu Minghao from the top of her head, and held him in her arms. Under the sunlight, Sally looked towards the distant battlefield with a bright smile. The reason she hadn't been speaking was simply because her little brain was filled with regret for those dead monsters… So many of them. How wonderful it would have been if she and Minghao could have eaten them.
“…”
Looking at Sally's radiant smile, Lu Minghao, who had been stroking her head, suddenly froze. All this time, he had thought Sally was sympathizing with those monsters because of the demon blood within her, but it turned out this was the reason.
“Minghao, what's wrong?”
Sally raised Lu Minghao in her hands, her big eyes approaching his face with a curious expression.
“Nothing.”
With that, Lu Minghao turned his head to look at the direction behind him, then jumped directly onto Sally's head, inserted his demon horns into her body, and pulled up her hood.
“Hehe! So comfortable… Hmm? Someone's coming?”
Sally shook her little head, feeling the warm, soft sensation of the demon horns. Just as she was about to say something else, she suddenly sensed movement behind her. Instantly, the expression on her face completely vanished, and she pulled up her collar, covering her entire face, leaving only a pair of indifferent purple pupils exposed.
“Greetings, I am Carolien, and these are the members of my team. Are you perhaps on a reconnaissance mission as well?”
About a minute later, a large group of people rushed towards Sally's location, surrounding her. Then, a handsome young man wearing a mage robe walked up to Sally, extended his hand, and introduced himself with a smile.
“What is it?”
Sally slightly raised her head, her purple eyes coldly sweeping over the dozen or so people around her. Most of them were young adventurers, and the only ones who posed a threat to her were the young man in front of her and the two people guarding behind him.
“Please don't worry, I have no ill intentions. Let me introduce myself, my father is a viscount of the Yst Kingdom, and the reason I approached you is simply because the mission you accepted is the same as ours, which is why we sought you out.”
After saying that, Carolien gave Sally a courteous bow with a gentlemanly demeanor. However, the undisguised arrogance in his eyes was laughable to Sally. She had seen too many existences like this in the past.
“So, what is it that you want?”
Sally looked at Carolien in front of her with emotionless eyes, and her body hidden under the black robe had already begun to tense up. She would not hesitate to attack if there was the slightest hint of danger.
“Of course, I would like to invite you to carry out the mission together. That way, everyone can complete the mission, and there won't be any danger.”
As Carolien spoke, a confident smile appeared on his face. All the people around him had been gathered by him using this method. After hearing that he was the son of a noble and was wearing a mage robe, they all chose to agree to his proposal.
The reason why Carolien did this was very simple. In fact, he had accepted this mission a week ago, but during the reconnaissance process, he discovered that the Edras Kingdom was building a new stronghold there, and there weren't many monsters.
Originally, he only needed to report this matter, and his mission would have been considered complete. However, Carolien did not choose to do so because he wanted greater merit. Although he was the child of a noble, he was not the eldest son.
Without inheritance rights, if he wanted to have enough status after adulthood, the only choice was merit. Only with enough merit could he be granted noble status after adulthood.
For this reason, Carolien bribed the Adventurers' Guild staff, asking him to tell him the information of the adventurers who accepted this mission. After spending a few days, he successfully gathered these people around him.
And these people were his greatest confidence in destroying that monster stronghold, and now, he was only one person away from the final goal.
“Is that so?”
After hearing Carolien's words, Sally looked at the many adventurers around her. Most of them were young adventurers who had not experienced much. Each and every one of them deeply believed in Carolien's words.
“Lord Carolien is inviting me just like that? Aren't you worried that I'm very weak?”
In the next second, Sally raised her head and looked at Carolien in front of her, asking with a hint of playfulness in her voice. Although she was only a girl under ten years old, she had grown up in a world filled with 'malice' and could see through the ill intentions of this guy in front of her at a glance.
“No, no, it's precisely because everyone is not strong that we need to act together to have a chance to complete the mission, isn't it? Moreover, I am also a mage, and I am confident in protecting everyone.”
As he spoke, Carolien also raised the magic staff in his hand, looking at everyone around him with a gentle smile, as if he would do his best to protect his teammates as he said. The young adventurers surrounding him cheered, calling him Brother Carolien, and even a few girls looked at Carolien with affection.
“I see, then I agree to join.”
Looking at the many cheering adventurers around her, a strange glint flashed in Sally's eyes… She knew that Carolien in front of her had ill intentions towards her, and she felt the same way… However, Sally was eyeing all of them. After all, these people seemed to be good 'nutrients'.
It should be enough for Minghao to slightly fill his stomach… Anyway, these people are going to die, so it's better to let them die with a little value.
