Cyberpunk: Spartan Walker

Chapter 80 The Battle of Zhonghaina Blue Star (7)

The Yongzhu nuclear reactor room.

As the last elite warrior fell wailing, the danger here was lifted.

Gentlemen, it's time to come out and continue working. Tommy picked up a needle gun, a plasma pistol and several plasma grenades, and shouted to the locked compartment next to him.

The light on the compartment turned from red to green, the pressure door slid open, and several engineers ran out with thanksgiving and continued to repair the reactor.

Tommy looked around and briefly estimated the number of Covenant corpses lying on the ground. He couldn't help but wonder: How did they break through the defense line here?

He left the nuclear reactor room and went to the engineer's preparation room next door. The space here is not large. There are several cabinets for equipment and uniforms on the left and right sides, and some benches for resting in the middle. He doesn't like it here at all - if a fight breaks out he won't be able to avoid it.

He turned on the communicator, Lieutenant Hicks, the nuclear reactor's alarm has been lifted. Where is the maintenance progress?

Sir, it'll be fine soon, the communication on the bridge suddenly stopped, and static replaced Lieutenant Hicks's voice.

Lieutenant? Tommy tried to reconnect, but soon found it was a futile effort.

Something happened on the bridge, and he had to go take a look.

Just as he was about to take action, the sound of armor scraping and heavy footsteps attracted his attention - coming from behind the pressure door directly ahead.

Tommy, get out of there quickly, they've set an ambush here! Ellie's anxious voice came from the communicator.

Her reminder came too late.

The pressure door was smashed open with a bang, and four huge creatures roared and ran into the preparation room one after another. They were roughly human-shaped, two and a half meters tall, and were covered from head to toe in dark blue-gray armor, the material of which was similar to the shell of a Covenant ship.

They have several areas of exposed skin that glow with clearly visible blue, orange, and yellow lights, their eyes are two slits, and their joints appear to be indestructible.

The alien's left arms each held a large shield, as thick as the armor of a spaceship, while his right arm held a terrifying large-caliber nuclear gun. This thing was so huge that it seemed like even the creature's arms had been integrated into the weapon.

Tommy remembered that the most recent report of this kind of monster came from Spartan-117, located in the Côte d'Azur City on the fourth planet of the Octanus Delta system. James was injured in his left arm during the battle with them.

The fear of death surged from the bottom of his heart, followed by the rapid thinking brought to him by the adrenaline rushing in his blood.

Behind is the nuclear reactor. He can't escape and can only fight head-on. But apart from the only Lotus mine left in his hand, he had no other heavy weapons. Whether it was a plasma pistol or a needle gun, hitting the hunter was like scratching an itch.

There was no chance of winning in the firepower competition. He reached for the energy sword at his waist - only by tearing apart their defenses could he win in close combat.

The hunters lined up, their raised shields forming an impenetrable barrier. They raised their nuclear guns, which were charging and flashing green, aimed at Tommy.

Tommy activated the Lotus mine's detonation detector and threw the mine towards the four hunters.

The hunter pulled the trigger, and four destructive balls of green energy missed the Lotus Mine in the air and shot straight at the Spartan.

With a thought, Tommy activated the armor lock, white light bloomed all over his body, and the energy ball hit him with a bang. The bright green light filled his field of vision, and the released electric current was injected into his body, making a sizzling sound through his muscles and ligaments. Temperature sirens chirped and boiling shock-absorbing gel began to drain from the Mjolnir armor's emergency ducts.

The Lotus mine exploded as soon as it approached the hunters, and the heated and expanded air tore open the defense line, revealing a hole that could be exploited.

Before they could react, Tommy stepped hard, quickly approached the opening, walked around behind a hunter, then took out the needle gun and pulled out the 14 purple crystal needles on it. With a wave of his hand, all the needles were used. Submerged behind Hunter No. 1, orange blood spattered.

The crystals became unstable due to the near-end resonance, and exploded after a few milliseconds. The crystal fragments were thrown into the air to form a purple flash barrier. The worm conglomerate behind Hunter No. 1 was blasted with a hole, and it fell down wailing.

Tommy kept moving, ducking down, narrowly dodging the whizzing shield, then took out a plasma grenade, pressed the button, and stuck it on the back of Hunter No. 2.

Before the grenade exploded, he pulled out his energy sword and rushed towards Hunter No. 3. By now it had turned around and roared towards Tommy.

Tommy leaned forward and thrust his sword into Hunter Three's arm. The blazing plasma sword blade couldn't even break through its armor, so he decisively used the fulcrum formed by the energy sword to jump high and came to the back of Hunter No. 3.

The energy sword slashed across the hunter's back, the worm twisted and fell to the ground, and hunter No. 3 also fell to the ground.

The overwhelming shadows fell towards Tommy, and another plasma grenade was thrown, just sticking to the exposed orange worm on the head of Hunter No. 4.

The armor lock was still cooling down, so Tommy raised his arms to protect his head in order to avoid being hurt.

Boom! The plasma grenade exploded.

Tommy's vision went dark and he was slapped away hard. The energy shield on his body was broken, and a dazzling light erupted. He hit the wall of the preparation room with a bang, making a dent, and then slid softly to the ground.

The body was suffering from the pain of the impact, and it felt like it was being bombarded by a 100% charged magnetic accelerator cannon.

His armor malfunctioned, so he couldn't see or hear anything. He seemed to be on the edge of hell, but he tried his best to stay awake and alert. A moment later, his heads-up display was filled with stars and a line of scarlet words - System Failure.

He realized then that the problem wasn't just with the armor... but with himself.

His eyes can see clearly again, and his hands and feet can move slowly. The internal organs were severely injured. For example, the stomach seemed to have been taken out and cut into pieces, and then sewn back together in a mess. He took a difficult breath, which also hurt him terribly.

Tommy looked at the battlefield: four hunters fell to the ground, motionless. It seemed that he had indeed won - not yet.

A black-armored elite warrior slowly emerged from a strange, ghostly glow. It grinned as if it were laughing at the embarrassed Tommy.

The Spartan struggled to stand, but the movement caused him to spit out a mouthful of blood laced with visceral fragments, smearing the entire inside of his helmet. The taste of rust lingered in his mouth. What's worse is that the Thunder Hammer armor, whose system is down, has lost its former function of assisting movement, and is like an iron felt covering the whole body, restricting his movement.

Devil. The elite warrior said to Tommy in non-standard English, The glory belongs to me! It raised its plasma rifle towards Tommy from a distance.

What honor? Tommy gave an ugly smile. What honor could there be in killing an immobile Spartan?

The dim light shines on his armor, and every rough battle damage means that countless comrades have gone before him. Is it his turn today?

The door of the preparation room exploded with a bang, and the M9 fragmentation grenade drew an arc in the air and landed at the feet of the elite soldier, who had to roll over and hide behind the iron cabinet.

The Spartans are nothing more than that, why don't you want me to save you? A petite figure wearing an ODST combat uniform stood in front of him, her voice concealing irrepressible anger, You bastard, come here!
