Chapter 408 Tomcat Lands

Pile drivers are used in construction, such as building a building or building a bridge. When the foundation needs to be compacted, this type of pile driver will be used. In order to build roads in mountainous areas, the pile driver needs to be an all-wheel drive off-road vehicle, and the top of the pile driver is a cylindrical structure.

From the outside, you can't really see anything. Who would have thought that this vehicle that looks like a Scud missile is actually a pile driver!

Seeing this pile driver, the Americans were stunned and knew they had made a serious mistake.

After learning about this, President Muhammad was very angry and called the American ambassador to lodge a serious protest. Today, when Pakistan and the United States are very friendly, the United States is still not at ease with Pakistan. It even suspects that Pakistan is secretly colluding with the Soviet Union and that Pakistan imports ballistic missiles from the Soviet Union! Anyone with a little bit of brains would not have such an idea!

The American ambassador kept explaining and apologizing, but he still couldn't offset President Muhammad's anger. Muhammad almost forced all American military personnel in Pakistan to disperse. It wasn't until the US president called in person that Muhammad calmed down.

The spies planted by the United States in Afghanistan were finally discovered by Osama. In this way, Muhammad could also breathe a sigh of relief that things did not develop in the worst direction.

After completing the plan to deal with the Americans, another good news came. The aircraft carrier modified by the Karachi Shipyard was finally completed and started sea trials!

After getting the news, Muhammad was very excited and flew to Karachi immediately.

"Buzz buzz buzz." The engine on the top roared. This large helicopter was flying on the sea. Muhammad looked at the blue water below. He was excited.

An aircraft carrier appeared on the sea in the distance. The flat deck on the top was the most obvious feature!

Fly over immediately! The propeller of the helicopter stirred the airflow, and soon it flew above the aircraft carrier.

If it were an ordinary warship, the helicopter landing platform at the tail would be very small, requiring the pilot's superb driving skills. To be able to land accurately, but now, this is an aircraft carrier with a large deck, just like on the ground.

With a slight vibration, the helicopter landed on the aircraft carrier, and a circle of people had already gathered on the deck.

"President, you are very welcome to come here for inspection." Pakistani Navy Chief of Staff Zahar and Karachi Base Commander Osman looked at Muhammad with excitement.

"Well. How is our aircraft carrier?" Muhammad asked.

"The engine power is normal, we can accelerate to the maximum speed. All the newly installed systems are fully matched. Now, we are about to conduct the take-off and landing experiment of carrier-based aircraft." Osman said.

Take-off and landing of carrier-based aircraft! The foundation of this aircraft carrier is not enough, it is only more than 30,000 tons, so the number of carrier-based aircraft it can accommodate is insufficient, but. This is a good platform, on which we can carry out the take-off and landing training of carrier-based aircraft and train the most important naval personnel for Pakistan!

"Well, how is the training of our pilots?" Muhammad asked.

Muhammad knew how difficult it was to take off and land carrier-based aircraft on an aircraft carrier. On land, the length of the runway is almost more than one thousand meters, so that fighter planes can land calmly from a distance. However, the deck of an aircraft carrier is less than three hundred meters long in total. There is only a little over one hundred meters left for landing. If you want to stop the aircraft at a distance of more than one hundred meters, it requires superb driving skills. After all, from the sky, the deck of an aircraft carrier is just a small target.

Moreover, unlike on land, the deck of an aircraft carrier is shaking back and forth.

"We built a platform on land and have started preliminary training." Osman said.

No one can land on an aircraft carrier without any training. Compared with takeoff, landing is more difficult. For example, the most complicated night landing, even among the carrier-based aircraft pilots of American aircraft carriers, less than 60% of them have the ability to land at night. Therefore, the attacks of American aircraft carriers are often launched before dawn, so that when the carrier-based aircraft return, it is already dawn.

Pakistan first simulated the shape of a deck on land with steel plates, and then added hydraulic cylinders underneath. Driven by the hydraulic cylinders, the deck swayed back and forth to simulate the vibration of the aircraft carrier deck on the sea, which could maximize the task of training pilots in advance.

"Well, who flew over first?" Muhammad asked.

"Hunter, Hussein." Zahar said.

Hussein was one of the first pilots to fly Tomcat fighters. He had the most combat experience and had shot down several fighters. He was bold and had a tough driving style. When he learned that the first batch of aircraft carrier pilots were to be selected, Hussein immediately signed up and successfully became a carrier pilot.

Now, it is time to conduct the first aircraft carrier takeoff and landing training.

Muhammad followed everyone and went up to the bridge of the aircraft carrier. From here, he could clearly see everything on the deck. Staff in various colors were busy on the deck.

Carrier-based aircraft will only be equipped on the aircraft carrier when it is sailing. When the aircraft carrier returns to the home port, all the carrier-based aircraft will take off and fly to the base on land. When the aircraft carrier is dispatched, the carrier-based aircraft will fly from the base on land to the aircraft carrier. This can effectively avoid the corrosion of the fighter aircraft by the sea salt, and at the same time, it can also obtain the ability to land the aircraft carrier once more.

Now, this aircraft carrier is dispatched without any carrier-based aircraft on it. The first thing to be carried out is the landing experiment.

"Full speed ahead." Osman, the acting captain of the aircraft carrier and the commander of the Karachi base, issued orders one by one.

Following his order, thick smoke came out of the chimney, and the four boilers began to work at full capacity at the same time, bursting out the maximum thrust, pushing the aircraft carrier to a maximum speed of thirty knots.

When taking off, the aircraft carrier moves forward at the maximum speed to give the carrier-based aircraft an initial speed, and when landing, it also flies at the maximum speed to reduce the speed difference with the carrier-based aircraft and facilitate the landing of the carrier-based aircraft.

A bright spot appeared in the sky. As the roar of the engine gradually approached, the beautiful Tomcat appeared in everyone's sight.

At the tail of the aircraft carrier, on one side of the deck, the personnel responsible for guiding the landing were ready.

If the carrier-based aircraft landed only by the ability of the pilot, then it would be inevitable that there would be deviations, so guidance and help were needed, which was achieved by an optical landing aid system.

This optical device called Fresnel was invented by the British after World War II. After World War II, carrier-based aircraft entered the jet age, the speed increased, and the difficulty of landing increased. Many accidents occurred. The British invented this lens optical landing aid system. On a self-stabilizing platform on the port side of the middle of the aircraft carrier, there are 4 groups of lights, distributed in 5 segmented light boxes in the central vertical row, and 5 layers of light beams are emitted through the Fresnel lens. The light beams are parallel to the landing runway and maintain a certain angle with the sea level to form 5 layers of slopes.

The height of each beam section is 6.6 meters at the entrance of the carrier aircraft into the glide path. The middle section is an orange beam, which turns into yellow and red beams upward and downward respectively. There are horizontal green reference fixed lights on both sides of the light box in the middle section. In this way, when the height and glide angle of the carrier aircraft are correct, the pilot can see that the orange light ball is in the center of the green reference light, which means that the flight is correct. As long as this angle is maintained, the glide landing can be accurate. If the pilot sees a yellow light ball and it is above the green reference light, it means that the flight is too high and the altitude should be lowered; if the pilot sees a red light ball and it is below the green reference light, it should be raised immediately, otherwise it will hit the end face of the tail column of the aircraft carrier or land in the sea behind the tail.

With this optical landing aid, the landing accidents of carrier-based aircraft on the aircraft carrier have been greatly reduced.

At the same time, a group of red flashing lights are arranged vertically on the left and right of the central light box. If the carrier-based aircraft is not allowed to land, it will flash. At this time, the green reference light and the central light box are both turned off, telling the pilot to stop descending and go around immediately, so it is called the "go-around light". There is a set of green lights on the go-around lights, called the cut-off lights. When it is turned on, it is a signal to allow entry into the glide path.

After the British invented it, the United States also adopted this set of equipment, and the aircraft carriers of France and the Soviet Union also adopted this landing aid equipment one after another. It is simple and easy to use and not prone to errors.

At this time, Hussein, driving the Tomcat fighter, has accurately entered the glide path, with all the wings spread out and the fighter's speed at the lowest. At the same time, a long hook is extended from the tail. In a while, whether he can successfully land on the ship depends on this hook.

Looking at the optical equipment for landing assistance, Hussein carefully adjusted the glide path of his fighter, getting closer and closer to the aircraft carrier.

Hussein was not nervous, and every movement was gentle. If the movement was too large, he might make too many corrections and had to make corrections again, and finally failed to land.

On land, Hussein practiced countless times, and this time, it was the same as on land!

Getting closer and closer, the people in the bridge were also watching intently.

"Bang!" Finally, there was a heavy impact sound from below, and the thick shock absorber shrank downward to relieve the impact force.

Every landing of an aircraft carrier is almost a collision! Figuratively speaking, the aircraft carrier does not land on it, but hits it!

No matter how low the minimum speed of the aircraft carrier is, when flying over the warship, it does not reduce the throttle, but increases the speed appropriately. In case it cannot land smoothly, it must take off quickly at full power. This is also the greatest use of the angled deck.

Now, as the main landing gear lands, the front landing gear also touches the deck, and the tail hook at the tail rubs the deck and slides forward. (To be continued ~^~)
