The wing is a variable-sweep wing with full-span flaps and leading-edge slats, an aluminum alloy integrally reinforced skin, a full-moving elevator tail, a built-in rudder, and an electric control system. From the appearance, it seems to have the characteristics of a third-generation aircraft, but unfortunately, the structure is bulky and the air combat capability is limited. Therefore, the first successful development was not a fighter. It was a fighter-bomber, that is, the Tornado IDS model.

After the successful development of this fighter, Germany and Italy felt satisfied and purchased this fighter, but the UK still wanted to have a fighter with a strong interception capability. So, while Germany and Italy were purchasing, the UK continued to invest. Develop the ADV type for air defense interception. After the detailed design began in March 1976, the first prototype made its maiden flight in October 1979. The development of the fuselage was very fast, but the development of the radar system for ADV was slow. Therefore, the practical Tornado F2 fighter did not make its first flight until 1984 and was delivered to service in 1985, which was 5 years later than the Tornado IDS.

This is also a variable-sweep wing fighter with an advanced technology using a fly-by-wire system. Therefore, in the eyes of the Indians, this aircraft has become the main model that can restrain the Tomcat fighter equipped by Pakistan.

What can the Indians do against Pakistan? Even the Soviet Su-27 was defeated by Pakistan's Tomcat fighter at the Farnborough Air Show. India's determination to develop its own army will not change.
