Chapter 581: Spey modified gas turbine

"Yes." Muhammad said: "Some of the capital may be under the name of some Western companies, but we are actually holding the shares behind them. We can raise the cost of building the oil pipeline. Moreover, we have already built an oil pipeline from Karachi to Islamabad in our country. Therefore, we only need to continue to build it on the basis of the original pipeline and build it along the railway line to Lhasa in your country."

Build it to Lhasa! Muhammad did not make more requests, such as building it to the eastern part of China. After all, the eastern part is the economically developed area, and the current Tibet area is still very backward.

As long as it is built to Lhasa, China will see the benefits and will build it again to the east. Isn't the West-East Gas Transmission Project created in this way? Muhammad only needs to build it to Lhasa, so that China does not have to worry too much. Muhammad estimates that within five years, the cost will definitely be recovered, and the net profit will be in the future.

"Okay." Mr. Deng said, "Then let's continue our previous cooperation and build this oil pipeline together! We will each invest 50% and share the profits equally."

Unconsciously, Muhammad has negotiated another cooperation project and is very happy.

Continue to talk about economic affairs, the two sides strengthen cooperation and achieve a win-win situation, and then move on to the military.

"We are also very shocked by Pakistan's progress in the military industry, especially now that Pakistan has successfully developed the Friendship Shield." Defense Minister General Qin said: "The fleet air defense problem that has been bothering us can be effectively solved. We have planned to build two warships equipped with the Friendship Shield to increase the navy's air defense capabilities."

Now, friction in the South China Sea still exists, and China has a long coastline. There are important maritime interests to protect, and warships with a complete air defense system are needed. The Luhu-class destroyer only solves the problem of point air defense, and the regional air defense capability is still provided by the Friendship Shield.

"Yes." Muhammad said: "We also plan to build several special air defense destroyers after the Friendship Shield matures. However, how do you plan to solve the power problem of your warships?"

China's two Luhu-class ships use the LM2500 gas turbine imported from the United States. This is an excellent warship power. Most of the US warships use this power system. However, China's honeymoon period with the West is over, and the West will no longer hand over this excellent power system to China.

"Yes, this is also a problem for us. If it doesn't work, we can only use the original steam turbine." said General Zhang, commander of the Central Military Commission and the Navy.

For the navy, equipment plays a major role, and the power system of warships is also a big problem.

Almost from the beginning of armored warships, the power of warships is steam engines, and then it becomes steam turbines, which improves thermal efficiency and drives huge warships to reach a speed of about 30 knots. Until now, China's Luda-class warships and even the Soviet Union's Sovremenny-class destroyers still use steam turbines.

Reliable power, durability, low equipment and use costs, these are its advantages, but. Its disadvantage is slow! Before use, you have to burn the boiler first, and after the water pressure is increased enough, it can be started.

In contrast. Gas turbines are very fast, no matter when. After starting, they can run at full power almost immediately, with good acceleration performance and high power density. In history, after the British invented gas turbines, they decided to use this power system for all their warships.

However, China's technical capabilities are limited. The two Luhu-class ships use LM2500 gas turbines imported from the United States. In history, the Shenzhen ship No. 167, which was built later, switched back to steam turbines. This also led to the hasty retirement of the 167 ship after more than ten years of service. It was dismantled on the slipway and almost only a shell was left.

"I have a suggestion." Muhammad said: "You can transform the Spey engine into a gas turbine for ships. We in Pakistan also have a demand for ship power. If the transformation is successful, our subsequent warships can also use this engine."

Transform! Almost all gas turbines are transformed from aircraft engines. For example, the famous LM2500 is improved based on the TF39 engine used in the C5 transport aircraft. The British main "Olympus" ship-mounted gas turbine was originally developed as a turbojet engine for the "Vulcan" strategic bomber, and then it was improved and finally brilliant.

China also developed marine gas turbines. At the beginning, it introduced the Soviet Tu-16 bomber and domestically produced it into the H-6. At the same time, it also copied the engine used on the Tu-16 and named it the WP-8 engine. The air flow and maximum thrust of this engine are comparable to those of the "Olympus" turbojet engine, but the thrust-to-weight ratio is low and the fuel consumption rate is high. Chinese scientists have made more than 80 modifications to this engine to adapt to the harsh environment of ships operating at sea. A new power turbine for power output has been designed, and the accessories and systems have also been redesigned according to the shipboard use environment. In 1974, the "WP-8 modified" ship gas turbine completed the endurance test and was ready to enter the equipment production stage. As a result, the British came in and recommended their "Olympus" ship gas turbine to China, which ruined the turbojet-8 conversion to marine gas turbine. The British "Olympus" did not open up the market, and was overtaken by the American LM2500 gas turbine.

This period of history is painful. In short, China still does not have a suitable marine gas turbine. After the Western world led by the United States imposed sanctions on China, China found that it had no suitable gas turbines to use.

However, unlike history, under the intervention of Muhammad, the Spey engine was finally successfully copied by China, and it began to be officially installed and became a key model of engine in China.

At the same time, Muhammad also knew that it was possible to improve the Spey engine into a marine gas turbine, because the British were already doing so!

The British Spey SM1A gas turbine, which is a model directly improved from the Spey, has a maximum power of 13,824 kilowatts and a fuel consumption rate of 235g per kilowatt-hour. The C type that was later improved has a maximum power of 17,750 kilowatts and a fuel consumption rate of 230g. The power of the American LM2500 gas turbine, the original model, is 18,755 kilowatts, which is almost the same as the American LM2500 gas turbine.

In later generations, the Japanese were very satisfied with this gas turbine and used it on their Gaobo-class destroyers.

Now, China has mastered the full set of Spey technology, and on the basis of Spey, it has developed a more powerful TF41 engine. Moreover, it is still studying the further thrust-increasing model of this engine, and the thrust can be further expanded. Therefore, if this engine is improved into a gas turbine, it should reach the same power as the British gas turbine, or even higher. By using new compressors and increasing the temperature, it is expected to reach more than 20,000 kilowatts in the end. The American LM2500 gas turbine has been continuously improved and its power has been doubled.

Two such marine gas turbines are enough to drive a 4,000-ton destroyer, and four can drive a destroyer of more than 7,000 tons, which can fully meet the requirements of new destroyers. In Muhammad's plan, the displacement of Pakistan's Friendship Shield warship is about 8,000 tons.

Transform Spey! After the Spey is successfully improved into a ship-borne power, it can also learn from experience and improve the more advanced F110 engine currently produced in Pakistan into a ship power. If the F110 engine is successfully modified, four engines are enough to drive a cruiser of more than 10,000 tons.

Of course, these are all future plans. The main plan now is to improve the Spey!

Hearing Muhammad's proposal, Navy Commander General Zhang looked at Muhammad with great admiration and said, "President Muhammad, your proposal is very good. We can consider launching the project and develop a qualified gas turbine as soon as possible."

Through this US sanctions and the end of the honeymoon period with the West, China finally learned a lesson that it must rely on itself! The West is unreliable!

"After the heart of our big destroyer is solved, the main air defense system has also been solved. Our new destroyer will definitely be successfully manufactured and quickly form combat effectiveness, so that we can escort our future aircraft carrier formation." General Zhang said.

Aircraft carrier formation! China has long-term maritime rights and interests to protect, and naturally it also needs an aircraft carrier formation. It's just that due to the limited financial resources of the country, it is temporarily unable to start construction, but the relevant demonstration has been going on.

In the past, due to the limited air defense performance of domestic destroyers, even if an aircraft carrier was built, there was no air defense destroyer to escort it. Now, with the solution of the air defense problem, there can finally be escort ships for aircraft carriers.

"Yes. With our Friendship Shield system, the air defense problem has finally been solved." Muhammad said: "Our navy is now conducting a demonstration and preparing to build our own second aircraft carrier. I wonder if your country is interested in joining us?" (To be continued ~^~)
