Chapter 786: Anti-aircraft carrier weapon
The displacement of aircraft carriers in the Soviet era was not small. For example, the Kuznetsov had a maximum displacement of more than 60,000 tons, which was comparable to that of American aircraft carriers. However, the number of carrier-based aircraft it carried was only about 40. Moreover, due to the upturned bow deck, it was impossible to arrange more carrier-based aircraft landing pads, resulting in low efficiency in actual operation of this aircraft carrier, which was far from the efficiency of contemporary American aircraft carriers.
What is an aircraft carrier? Is it a heavy aircraft carrier cruiser, or just a carrier for fighter jets? Now, after coming into contact with Pakistan's aircraft carrier, Makarov's horizons have also been broadened. The power of an aircraft carrier is reflected in its carrier-based aircraft!
"Steam catapults are also necessary for aircraft carriers." Makarov said: "The design of the Indomitable aircraft carrier is reasonable, and the cost-effectiveness is far greater than that of the Kuznetsov."
In the Soviet era, the debate about catapults has been going on. The design units of carrier-based aircraft do not want to use catapults. After all, the front landing gear must be strengthened. Increasing strength means increasing weight, which will make the performance of carrier-based aircraft even more backward, especially the soft-boned Su-27 series aircraft. This is simply intolerable to the Sukhoi Design Bureau.
Now, seeing Pakistan's aircraft carrier, Makarov understands the necessity of catapults. The bow deck is straight, and a landing pad can be arranged on one side. In this way, the efficiency of carrier-based aircraft deployment is greatly increased. Lifting carrier-based aircraft from the hangar at the bottom and directly towing them on the deck are of course different in efficiency.
"Mr. Makarov, you are an excellent shipbuilding engineer. We welcome you to join our Pakistani shipyard." Muhammad said, "You can use your experience to make our shipbuilding more efficient."
"President Muhammad, are we still planning to start building a new aircraft carrier?" Makarov asked Muhammad, hoping to get a positive answer from Muhammad.
Unfortunately, it was too late. This aircraft carrier has been built. Now Makarov hopes that Pakistan can start building another one. In this way, Makarov can witness the birth of an aircraft carrier from the first keel, just like giving birth to a new life.
Muhammad shook his head: "The operation and use of aircraft carriers are expensive, and they require strong national strength to support them. In addition to this one. We already have two aircraft carrier fleets, and we will not consider the third aircraft carrier in the next five years."
Only a strong country can build an aircraft carrier! Thinking of the Varyag at the Black Sea Shipyard, they are still arguing. Russia hopes to pay the remaining 30% of the cost to complete the construction of the warship, while Ukraine hopes that Russia will pay the full amount. The two sides have discussed it many times, but have not reached an agreement.
At the end of 1994, Russia finally said that it didn't want it. Ukraine handed the aircraft carrier to the Black Sea Shipyard for processing. The Black Sea Shipyard hopes to find a buyer to buy the aircraft carrier. However, looking around the world, there is no suitable buyer.
Only a strong country can build and use aircraft carriers! Makarov is now sighing about the disintegration of the Soviet Union.
Pakistan is now strong, especially after defeating its old enemy India, occupying important industrial cities in India, and integrating India's agricultural production. Pakistan is now comparable to European powers. Even so, Pakistan's national strength is already at its maximum to maintain two aircraft carrier battle groups, and it will not start building a third one recently.
"However, we already have perfect experience in building aircraft carriers. If a foreign country wants to build an aircraft carrier, we can start construction after receiving an order, and we also undertake the modification of aircraft carriers." Muhammad said.
Aircraft carrier modification? Makarov was a little puzzled.
Muhammad did not say much. Last year, China had already shown great interest in aircraft carriers. And this year, China conquered Taiwan. It can break out of the first island chain and enter the Pacific Ocean at any time. The Chinese Navy also needs aircraft carriers.
The Indian aircraft carrier purchased from Pakistan is just a seed. It cannot take off and land conventional fighters, so it does not have much combat capability. At most, it is an amphibious assault ship. Therefore, China still needs an aircraft carrier.
China has already set its sights on the Ukrainian aircraft carrier, but for various reasons, it has not yet started. These people have the same idea as Muhammad. They have to watch that the aircraft carrier is not purchased by anyone and gradually becomes a piece of junk that no one wants before it will be purchased by China at the price of scrap iron.
After the acquisition, it needs to be modified. After all, the aircraft carrier is outdated, and China does not have such a huge anti-ship missile to use. Moreover, without a system, there will be no combat effectiveness.
In the future, China was modified at the Dalian Shipyard. Now, Pakistan has experience in building aircraft carriers, so Muhammad thinks that China will definitely choose to modify it in Pakistan. Maybe within two years, Pakistan will have this big deal.
Makarov was originally the builder of Varyag, and it is more appropriate for him to preside over the modification in the future. And these words cannot be said to Makarov for the time being.
"Mr. President, we are going to ignite the trial." Makarov said on the shore after turning around the aircraft carrier.
"Agree." Muhammad said: "Let us witness the trial of our aircraft carrier."
"Ignite!" Makarov shouted.
Four boilers started to ignite at the same time, and thick black smoke came out of the chimney.
Although destroyers and frigates have long been powered by gas turbines, which start quickly and have high torque, as aircraft carriers, they either use nuclear power or ordinary steam power. After all, catapults also need steam generated by boilers.
The disadvantage is that heating requires a long process. After preheating for an hour and a half, the propeller of the Indomitable aircraft carrier began to turn. With the help of several tugboats, the Indomitable aircraft carrier slowly moved its huge body and began to move towards the sea!
After leaving the Karachi Shipyard, Muhammad came to the nearby Ground Effect Wing Aircraft Design and Construction Bureau, which is a secret department of Pakistan.
Although the ground effect wing has shown strong performance, fast speed, large loading capacity, and is simply a tool for strategic transportation, looking around the world, only Pakistan has mastered this technology and put it into practical use!
Even the United States can only rent Pakistan's ground effect aircraft and can only be a passenger, and the operators are all Pakistanis.
When Muhammad entered the design bureau, Leonkrich, who had been working here for several years, welcomed Muhammad's arrival.
Leonkrich is an important engineer of the Alexeev Design Bureau. During the turmoil in the Soviet Union, he was funded by Shostakovich and came to Pakistan, bringing a lot of design information. With the arrival of other designers and the joint efforts of a large number of Pakistani technicians, Pakistan built its own ground effect wing aircraft.
The first one built was a large Kitty Hawk-class ground effect vehicle, which used the TF-41 engine produced by Pakistan. As a means of transportation, it has shown strong transportation capacity and speed, and played an important role in Pakistan's war against India.
Now, in addition to continuing to produce this type of transport ground effect vehicle, a new type of attack ground effect vehicle has also been designed here.
"Mr. President, our Harrier-class ground effect vehicle has been completed. After the trial flight, it fully meets the design indicators and can be put into mass production at any time." Leonkrich reported to Muhammad.
In the factory building at the rear, Muhammad saw this new Harrier-class ground effect vehicle. Similar to the Harrier-class in the Soviet era, this is a ground effect vehicle with a displacement of more than 500 tons. There are six anti-ship missiles on the top. However, unlike the Soviet design, this ground effect vehicle pays full attention to the stealth design.
"We are still equipped with the TF-41 engine. This engine has low fuel consumption and low failure rate, which is very suitable for our ground effect vehicle. At the same time, the top equipment is also the Eagle Strike-91A supersonic anti-ship missile produced by Pakistan." Leonkrich said: "When our ground effect vehicle flies at a speed of 500 kilometers per hour, this anti-ship missile has an effective range of more than 200 kilometers, which can completely pose a threat to the opponent's aircraft carrier formation."
The outermost F-18 fighter jets of the US aircraft carrier's air defense firepower circle can be placed at a distance of 500 kilometers. Therefore, general anti-aircraft carrier weapons, including attack aircraft in the air, must at least be able to break through the F-18 air defense circle. However, this ground effect vehicle, because of its stealth and flying on the crest of the waves, will not be detected by the radar of fighter jets, and even by the E-2 Hawkeye early warning aircraft at a long distance. In this way, it can be pushed to a distance of 200 kilometers from the aircraft carrier.
Although Pakistan has begun to imitate the SS-N-19, an anti-ship missile with a range of more than 500 kilometers, it has not yet been fully developed, and the supporting system of long-range anti-ship missiles has not been established. Therefore, the Eagle Strike-91, which is imitated from the Sunburn missile, is the most suitable choice for Pakistan.
Moreover, Pakistan's breakthrough in stealth capabilities in recent years, coupled with high speed, has greatly improved the survivability of this ground effect vehicle.
"Missiles are relay guidance is a difficult problem. We need the help of satellites and data links to lock the opponent's aircraft carrier formation at a distance of 200 kilometers. Therefore, our ground effect vehicle is a delivery tool for attacking aircraft carriers and a key point in the combat system." Leonkrich is not blindly proud of this female Harrier-class ground effect vehicle. He has a very accurate positioning. (To be continued ~^~)
