Doomsday: Gain experience by hunting
#17 - Murder and Arson Gold Belt
The night was dark and the wind howled.
Creak.
The wooden door opened, a figure looked left and right, then stepped out onto the street. They quietly made their way to a street on the outer edge of the camp:
Number 3, Number 4...
2nd Street, Number 4!
This is it.
A padlock hung on the wooden door.
Tang Wen quietly opened it with a key and slipped inside.
The houses on this street had no courtyards; the wooden door he opened was just the entrance to the house.
The room was pitch black. He took out a fire starter he had prepared beforehand, gently blew on it, and a faint light appeared.
The strengthening of his physique had made his eyesight far superior to ordinary people. Plus, he had eaten a lot of bird organs lately, so Tang Wen hadn't developed the night blindness that plagued most people in the camp.
He lit the oil lamp in the room. The dim yellow light didn't illuminate much.
But in Tang Wen's eyes, everything in the room was clear.
The wall directly in front of him attracted his attention. A large black bow hung there. He casually pulled over a chair, stood on it, and took down the bow.
Hmm, heavy.
Now, he was full of strength; he felt like he was waving a long saber effortlessly. This iron bow seemed heavier than three long sabers.
Great, just what I needed.
After this actual combat, he was a little dissatisfied with the attack range of his throwing knives and stones.
He was thinking about hunting more animals and exchanging the meat for a bow and arrow to practice with, but he found one directly.
After searching the house, Tang Wen found a short sword, about half a meter long, made of solid materials.
No question, he had to take it.
There was also a cabinet in the room with missing doors, emitting a stench; a table with a broken leg, covered in a layer of black grime, and several stools of different heights...
He shook his head and walked towards the inner room, where the smell was even worse.
The inner room had a wooden bed and a rice jar.
Tang Wen picked up the short sword and, with a look of disgust, lifted the blanket on the bed, which was an unrecognizable color.
Nothing there.
He picked up the pillow, and with a clatter, something fell out of the straw-filled pillow.
What's that sound?
Sounds like copper coins?
Tang Wen squatted down and picked up the things on the ground, a strange expression on his face: "These are really copper coins?"
The shape of the copper coins was similar to the ancient square-holed round coins.
He had heard Li Daniu say that the shops and stores in the city used copper coins, not bartering.
The merchant caravans from outside also accepted copper coins, but preferred bartering.
Apart from the copper coins, the iron bow, and the short sword, he didn't take anything else.
He quietly returned home.
Under the little miss's expectant gaze,
Tang Wen took out the iron bow, the short sword, and dozens of copper coins.
Tang Tang's smiling face gradually disappeared: "That's it?"
"These are the most valuable."
"What's the use of the most valuable? What about food? What about supplies? Bring everything!" Her voice rose three degrees.
"Huh? We're stealing... uh, taking things. It wouldn't be good to empty it out, would it?"
"What's wrong with that?" The little miss raised an eyebrow: "This is his compensation to us, you could say they are our spoils of war! Empty it out, empty it all. I'll go with you."
A look of eagerness appeared on her face.
Tang Wen: ...
Helpless, the two went again.
At Tang Tang's request, they each carried a large backpack before leaving.
Once again, he opened the other party's door.
Tang Tang searched around: Dozens of pounds of millet in the rice jar? Take it.
Several benches, three dirty wooden buckets? Take them.
"You're so stupid, there are two salted fish there, Xiao Wen, didn't you see them?"
"There's a lot of firewood in his house..."
Tang Wen quickly stopped her: "Let's forget about the firewood?"
"Forget about it?" Tang Tang looked at her younger brother: "Half the room in this side house is firewood, enough for us to burn until spring."
When she said that, Tang Wen also thought that the woodshed in the yard was indeed empty.
"Then, take it?"
"Take it! Let's move it together, at worst, we'll move it for two more nights." Tang Tang said with determination.
"Well, probably not."
With Tang Wen's current strength, he could walk like the wind even carrying two hundred pounds.
Tang Tang helped him tie the firewood into bundles with rope, Tang Wen carried it on his back,
Under his sister's look of "You didn't eat so much millet rice for nothing", he took advantage of the cover of night and quickly traveled back and forth seven or eight times. Before dawn, he filled his own woodshed to the brim.
According to the current consumption of a few pounds of firewood a day, it would be enough to burn until next spring.
The brother and sister stood side by side at the entrance of the woodshed, looking at the harvest with smiling faces.
Don't mention it, the feeling of getting something for nothing is really awesome!
The other things that were moved were piled up in the yard. Tang Tang said with disgust: "The tables and chairs can be split up for firewood, we don't want the wooden buckets, salted fish, and millet, let's take them out to exchange for things..."
After busying all night, they were a little tired, so the two went back to the house to rest.
After lunch, in the afternoon, Tang Wen came to the blacksmith shop with the iron bow and short sword on his back.
"This short sword is good, it's perfect for your sister to protect herself with a scabbard." Blacksmith Li Daniu gave Tang Wen a whetstone and looked at the iron bow the latter brought.
"This bow?" He took it in his hand and tried to draw the string.
Hey!
Li Daniu's face turned red, and he could only pull it halfway.
Buzz!
With a release, the steel string vibrated rapidly.
"Little Tang, this bow is good, but it takes too much strength. It's heavier than the bows I've seen in the guard camp! I'm afraid it takes two strong men to pull it open."
Li Daniu had a rough exterior, but he knew what was what. Tang Wen didn't say where the bow came from, and he didn't ask a word.
Tang Wen said sincerely: "Yes, yes, it's too heavy."
So heavy that even he could only pull the bow fully twenty or thirty times in a row.
"If you have copper coins, Brother Tang can sell the bow to the city. If a guard captain takes a fancy to it, it's worth a few hundred pounds of mutated beast meat, or you can exchange it for enough food to eat for several years."
Li Daniu had said earlier in the chat that people in the camp who wanted to enter the inner city of the camp, that is, the city, needed to pay an entrance fee of 10 copper coins each time.
10 copper coins can buy 10 pounds of white flour or 20 pounds of millet in the inner city.
For the people on the outer edge of the camp, it was sky-high. Almost no one would go.
More importantly, ordinary people on the outer edge of the camp had no way to earn copper coins.
Tang Wen didn't plan to sell the iron bow, but listening to him, he couldn't help but feel like he was getting rich.
Not to mention hundreds of pounds of mutated beast meat, Tang Wen didn't even have hundreds of pounds of ordinary meat.
Sure enough, killing and arson are the way to wealth!
He said: "Brother Li, please make two pairs of finger guards for me first, and then get some arrows. If I really want to sell it one day, taking a set out will be worth more."
"Easy to say, leave it to me. I'll help you maintain this bow."
"How much meat do you need?"
"No need, no need! That pigskin is enough. Brother, you are really amazing to be able to hunt a wild boar. But don't go deeper into the forest, there may be mutated beasts that haven't been cleaned up."
"Okay, I'll keep that in mind."
Li Daniu was busy, and Tang Wen went to the backyard to practice his saber by himself.
After yesterday's events, he was even more eager for strength.
[Wind Breaking Saber, Mastery (109/1000)]
He didn't waste a moment in the afternoon.
"Come, brother, let's practice together, don't leave tonight, just eat here." Li Daniu didn't know when he finished his work and stood in the backyard watching Tang Wen practice his saber.
"Okay, wait for me to go back and tell my sister."
"Call your sister to come together, it's more lively with more people! What's the point of leaving her alone at home!"
"Okay!"
It's funny to say, the two can be regarded as good neighbors and good friends.
But they haven't eaten a single meal at each other's house.
After all, food is too important for the people in the camp.
When he returned home and told her, Tang Tang also agreed to come over for dinner.
"We can't go empty-handed, right?" A hesitant look appeared on the little miss's face.
Tang Wen knew that she was feeling sorry for the things.
Before he could speak, Tang Tang continued: "It's not appropriate to take millet, he helped us clean up, so let's take meat?"
Tang Wen smiled and didn't speak.
Tang Tang curled her lips and cut about a pound of the braised pork head, turned around and asked:
"Is that enough?"
Tang Wen smiled secretly: The little miss hasn't changed at all. Even though she made a fortune last night, she is still as frugal today... well, so good at managing the household.
