Dragon's Origin

#1233 - Sea Monsters Part 3

“The Dao follows nature?” Wang Sheng laughed and asked in reply.

“Yes, it is the Dao following nature.” The old Taoist nodded vigorously, “If I hadn’t seen such magnificence in the sea, such peace and tranquility at the bottom of the shallow sea, I wouldn’t have been able to figure this out.”

“Reading ten thousand books is not as good as traveling ten thousand miles.” Wang Sheng added with a smile.

“You couldn’t be more right.” The old Taoist still nodded emphatically, “When I get back, I’ll have the Grand Master chase out all those big and small Taoists who have cultivated to a certain level and make them travel ten thousand miles.”

The old Taoist’s feelings were not without reason. In the deep sea, in that area of fish, he saw the extremely tragic dog-eat-dog world, but in the shallow sea, he saw more of various unimaginable forms of symbiosis and peaceful coexistence. Coral anemones and various small fish formed a mutually beneficial small circle, living and maintaining together. In the same sea, there was cruel killing, and also such warm symbiosis. Nature is indeed wonderfully diverse.

Wang Sheng was very happy. The more the old Taoist comprehended, the greater the benefit to Mei’er, and the happier Wang Sheng was.

After wandering around this island for several days, the two once again embarked on the journey to find treasure on the third island. The journey was uneventful, and they didn’t see anything dangerous. The fourth island was the same.

However, around the fourth island, the two still discovered some unusual things.

In fact, the fourth island itself was a volcanic island. It was obviously formed by volcanic eruptions, with a crater that was easy to recognize. The volcano on the island was lifeless, not knowing how many thousands of years it had been since it last erupted. The volcanic rock on it had long since solidified and weathered, and much of it had turned into soil. However, there was still no fresh water, so no plants could survive.

There were animals, though. Some creatures that looked like seals, from who knows where, were lazily sunbathing on the island.

The surprise was on the seabed near the shore. Descending from the coast, after leaving the coast for more than two hundred meters, the depth suddenly became several hundred meters. When the two dived down, they happened to see a fissure from which lava was gushing out.

The two saw this underwater volcano erupting, surrounded by swirling water vapor, which was the steam bubbles formed when the high-temperature lava suddenly encountered the cold seawater. Under the enormous water pressure, the steam bubbles were very small, but when they rose to a certain point, they did not turn into large bubbles, but were quickly cooled by the seawater and turned back into seawater. From the surface of the sea, there seemed to be nothing unusual.

The water temperature at the bottom of the sea reached at least forty degrees Celsius, and the two were already feeling a little hot. In this environment, the old Taoist naturally thought that there would be no living creatures. But on the contrary, the biosphere here seemed to be more vibrant than elsewhere.

Wang Sheng didn’t explain, and the old Taoist found it very strange, but also taken for granted. The marine life in this area had an astonishing amount of spiritual energy. Clearly, they were just sea monsters at the fourth or fifth level of cultivation, but when the two caught a few to taste, the spiritual energy contained within their bodies was comparable to that of seventh or eighth level demon beasts. Truly, the world is vast and full of wonders.

However, it was clear that the seafood here had a relatively high sulfur content. Wang Sheng tasted something unusual as soon as the seafood entered his mouth and reminded the old Taoist to pay attention to using the 'Soldier' and 'Traveler' mantras to regulate his body and detoxify, and not to be indifferent.

After witnessing the wonders of the underwater volcano, the two set off again.

In the vast sea, as far as the eye could see, there was nothing but seawater. The blue seawater was boundless, and there was nothing else in sight except the ocean. When flying, the old Taoist couldn’t even accurately identify the direction, and everything depended on Wang Sheng’s guidance.

After flying for so many days, looking at the same sea view every day was indeed a bit irritating. The two maintained an altitude of four hundred meters, flying normally. But the two no longer had the excitement and freshness of looking at the sea when they first set out.

Suddenly, the old Taoist shouted, “Ascend quickly!” His voice already carried the power of the Nine Character mantra, controlling the four flying demon beasts to ascend rapidly.

Wang Sheng was startled. When he looked down, the sea was calm and he didn’t find anything, nor did he detect any unusual aura.

Just as Wang Sheng was surprised, the sea suddenly churned, and a huge tentacle, like a python, shot out of the sea, sweeping towards the four flying demon beasts in the air.

The tentacle was so fast that the four flying demon beasts couldn’t avoid the attack range of the huge tentacle with their upward momentum. Wang Sheng even saw the huge and terrifying suction cups on the tentacle, which were even larger than the flying demon beasts.

Just as one of the flying demon beasts was about to be caught by the tentacle, at the critical moment, Wang Sheng’s heavy sniper crossbow fired with a bang.

The distance was close, and the target was so large that the heavy sniper crossbow had no deviation. It pierced into the tentacle with a hiss, and then exploded with a bang.

The tentacle in the air paused suddenly, as if it had suddenly lost control and fell down a section. Taking advantage of this moment, the four flying demon beasts desperately flapped their wings, trying to fly higher.

An aura like a heavenly deity suddenly appeared, directly enveloping dozens of miles around. The terrifying aura directly caused the two flying demon beasts that Wang Sheng and the old Taoist were not riding to stop flapping their wings. They hovered in the air for a few seconds, then suddenly plunged downwards.

“Come back!” Wang Sheng shouted, and the Six Character mantra was released violently, trying to influence the two flying mounts that were being suppressed by the terrifying aura. The ones they were riding were fine, as Wang Sheng and the old Taoist could influence them at close range. Even so, the two demon beasts only stopped flapping their wings for two or three seconds.

Another heavy sniper crossbow arrow shot out downwards, regardless of the target. Seeing that the tentacle seemed to be more than a hundred or two hundred feet long, one could imagine how big the body below was. Wang Sheng shot an arrow out, and there was no need to worry about missing.

Boom, another small explosion under the sea. Wang Sheng didn’t dare to be negligent, and the heavy sniper crossbow was continuously cocked, shooting downwards non-stop.

After several consecutive shots, the other party’s aura was all concentrated on Wang Sheng. At this time, the two flying demon beasts that had almost fallen into the sea finally escaped death, only a few dozen meters away from falling into the sea. When Wang Sheng released the Nine Character mantra again, the two demon beasts frantically flew upwards as if fleeing for their lives, finally escaping from another tentacle that stretched out again with Wang Sheng’s help, and flew to an altitude of one thousand meters.

Wang Sheng and the old Taoist also controlled their mounts to fly above one thousand meters, but the terrifying aura always locked onto Wang Sheng. When looking down, even from a distance of one thousand meters, Wang Sheng could vaguely see two large eyes, at least a hundred meters in diameter, staring at him.
