#162 - It Has Nothing to Do with Me (Part 1)
Chapter 111: None of My Business (Part 1)
Though the tracking experts were cautious enough, they didn't expect that their disbelief in Wang Sheng's ability to foresee danger would lead two of their companions, who continued in the same direction, to bring about their doom.
Barely ten minutes further, the two men witnessed a scene that shattered their souls. In the small valley to their right front, there was a massive killer bee hive.
Had they spotted this hive earlier, from a safe distance, they could have carefully bypassed it. With their cultivation levels, avoiding disturbing the killer bees wouldn't have been difficult.
However, the valley was obscured, and they only discovered it upon reaching this point, seeing the hive. At this distance, they were already within the killer bees'警戒range.
Thus, the two experts met a tragic end, relentlessly pursued by tens of thousands of killer bees. Each bee was at most at the initial stage of the first level, similar to the piranhas, but their sheer numbers were overwhelming.
One, faster, immediately turned back and raced towards his companions. The other unfortunate fellow, after only a few hundred meters, was overtaken by the killer bees and forced to fight desperately.
No matter how fast he slashed, he couldn't match the bees' numbers. Soon, he was entirely enveloped by killer bees. Had he not killed any, the outcome might have been better, but in his panic, he had already slain many.
The killer bees, seven to eight centimeters long, possessed stingers over four centimeters in length, as hard as steel. Even with protective clothing and spiritual energy shielding them, the experts couldn't withstand the onslaught of so many stingers.
The moment the first stinger pierced his body, bringing the agonizing sensation of a branding iron, he could no longer defend against the subsequent stings.
His piercing screams only heightened the panic of his fleeing companion, who ran even faster. They were merely a temporary alliance, not true comrades, each belonging to different factions. There was no need to sacrifice oneself for a temporary partner.
The killer bees were only slightly slower than him, so the fleeing expert believed he could escape, failing to realize the bees' tenacity, capable of relentlessly pursuing their enemies for an entire day and night.
Reaching the point where they had separated, where Wang Sheng had changed direction, he followed Wang Sheng's path without hesitation. Behind him, thousands upon thousands of killer bees pursued relentlessly.
When Wang Sheng sensed the danger, the killer bees were less than five hundred meters away. Fortunately, Wang Sheng, rigorously trained, understood the killer bees' habits and calmly prepared his escape.
Escape route, though it wasn't entirely that. Wang Sheng had no intention of killing the bees, so he watched calmly, emitting no aura. The mosquito repellent incense released copious amounts of smoke that the killer bees hated, masking Wang Sheng's presence and form. The protective mask over his mouth and nose made his breathing less noticeable, making him harder to spot.
The tracking experts fared terribly. Of the eight, one was already dead, and of the remaining seven, two were caught off guard and immediately engulfed by the killer bees, leaving the other five to flee in any direction they could find.
Even as they passed Wang Sheng, they didn't pause. Not because they didn't see him, but because in this situation, staying behind meant certain death, while running faster offered a chance of escape.
The five experts, at least fourth level cultivators to be sent into the Thousand Devil Valley, fled before Wang Sheng like rabbits struck by arrows, vanishing without a trace.
By now, the smoke from the mosquito repellent incense had risen, and Wang Sheng, leaning against a tree, watched silently as the killer bees buzzed past him in chaotic pursuit.
Occasionally, a bee would pass through the smoke and land on Wang Sheng, but he remained still, barely holding his breath, watching quietly.
The bees that landed on Wang Sheng were repelled by the smoke. Wang Sheng didn't move, the bees did not realize they were resting on a living person, after a short rest, the bees flew again, through the smoke, catching up with the main force and continuing the pursuit.
For a full ten minutes, large numbers of killer bees flew past. Wang Sheng stood still, unmoving, for the same amount of time.
Finally, when no more bees were visible, Wang Sheng still didn't move, only slightly stretching his limbs while remaining in place.
Half an hour later, the battle awareness in his mental space warned him again. Wang Sheng remained still, watching as a large number of killer bees flew back triumphantly. This was the bees' habit, always returning to the hive no matter how far they flew.
When no returning bees could be seen, Wang Sheng remained cautious, not moving until the warning in his mental space completely disappeared. During that time, at least five bees, far behind the main group, flew past Wang Sheng alone.
Finally, the threat was gone. Wang Sheng removed the mosquito repellent incense and walked back a short distance, finding two corpses with swollen faces.
They were unrecognizable, swollen to at least twice their normal size, their flesh bulging so much that their clothes were torn. Some of their protective gear, which appeared strong, was being stretched to a deformed state by their swollen bodies.
Wang Sheng couldn't discern what they had looked like before from their nearly flattened faces. He could only shake his head and lament, "You really had bad luck."
Since they were dead, their belongings shouldn't be left with the corpses. Wang Sheng searched them, but didn't find much. They were experts from Worry-Free City, hastily sent to track him. How much could they carry? Besides, in Worry-Free City, life was uncertain. How many people possessed high-level items like storage rings?
Two white assassin tokens, ranging from third to fifth level assassins, Wang Sheng couldn't determine their exact level. Since they were from Worry-Free City, they all had these. Some of the armor was decent, enough to sell for some pocket money.
After a sigh, Wang Sheng turned and continued towards his destination. Not far ahead, he found three more corpses, surrounded by thousands of dead killer bees. The three corpses were similarly swollen and disfigured from bee stings. After dealing with them in the same manner, Wang Sheng continued.
About two miles further, Wang Sheng found another corpse. The death was identical, but this one was slightly different, with a half-burnt torch beside him. It seemed he had finally realized that fire and smoke could repel killer bees and had tried to use it. Unfortunately, he had forgotten that he had killed hundreds of bees, and even the largest fire wouldn't deter the swarming bees.
When Wang Sheng reached a river, he finally saw a living person.
