Exploiting Hollywood 1980

Chapter 24 A good way to meet new friends

It was the day for the one-on-one competition for the role of Coco.

At 3 pm, Madonna and Irene Cara came to the audition room together. Director Alan Parker had already set up the camera.

Irene Cara was a black girl with a Caribbean style. She wore a one-shoulder pink top with a wide neckline, revealing her shoulder straps and one shoulder. She wore a floral skirt. A very typical Caribbean style.

She came with her agent and a make-up artist.

Madonna came alone, with short hair and a pair of sunglasses tilted on. She wore tight jeans and big leather boots. Ronald had already done it in advance

Ronald took him to the dressing room, "Can you put on your own makeup?"

"Yes, don't worry. I'm in a band, and I do it myself before going on stage."

"Do you remember what I told you before? You are a person who was deceived by an unscrupulous director to shoot an adult movie. The script with lines will be given to you 5 minutes before the interview, and you will be in line after Irene."

"Don't worry, I said I'm very experienced." Madonna replied, "The music industry is the same, there are scammers everywhere."

Okay, you put on your makeup first, Ronald couldn't help but worry a little about whether she really understood the plot he revealed in advance.

When it came to the interview with Irene Cara, the director gave only two pages of the script, which was a sad story.

An unscrupulous director who made an adult movie found CoCo, promised her the position of the heroine, and then invited her to his home for an "audition". At the highest point of the girl's hope, he asked her to take off her top and shoot some "audition materials". CoCo cried and did it to fulfill her dream.

Of course, there would be no real stripping scene during the audition, but just taking off the coat for the sake of meaning, and still wearing underwear inside.

But when the matter came to the hands of director Alan Parker, he added a little difficulty. The director asked two casting directors, producers, and Ronald to go in and watch the whole scene together. This put the greatest psychological pressure on the actors who were auditioning.

Taking off the pink one-shoulder T-shirt in front of strangers, leaving only underwear, was a big psychological burden for Irene Cara.

The director personally took the camera and read the lines behind the camera:

"You just sit here, we will take a beautiful close-up of your beautiful face."

Irene Cara made a happy expression.

"Not bad," Ronald commented on the actor's smile.

"You don't know, CoCo, you have a good chemical reaction with the camera. Some people are born to be suitable for the camera, they seem to be able to make love with the camera. Marilyn Monroe is like this, and you are also..." The director read the lines.

"Really?" Irene Cara acted very well, she squeezed out an awkward smile, as if she was embarrassed to hear such explicit words, but also afraid that this was the way artists speak, and she would be laughed at if she protested.

"Take off your shirt."

"What? Are you kidding?" Erin Kara acted out the shock.

"Of course not. What's wrong with you? You look like a stupid art high school student. I thought you were a professional. Any questions?" The director continued to read the lines.

Erin Kara began to unbutton her shirt. The character Coco thought it was a normal audition procedure. She was crying while taking it off. "I can't do it... ah ah..."

The character Coco finally took it off.

The audience at the audition, especially the producer and Ronald, two men watching, put pressure on the actor Erin Kara, allowing her to put herself into the role and perform very well.

Erin bravely faced her inner heart. She took off her T-shirt for a successful audition, folded her arms across her chest, and cried in front of everyone.

"Bravo!" The director applauded, indicating that he was very satisfied with the audition.

"How is it? My Irene girl, she is the best, she is the pride of us Latinos." Producer Da Silva breathed a sigh of relief, hugged Irene who was dressed and announced to everyone that the Caribbean Latinos will have another superstar who is good at acting, singing and dancing.

"Madonna Ciccone." Ronald went out to call people.

"Don't be nervous, just act according to your own character. Didn't you say that you often encounter similar situations in the music industry? Just act according to your life experience. I believe in you, you are the best!" Ronald encouraged a few words.

Madonna nodded, sat on the audition stool generously, picked up the script and started reading.

"Just sit here, we will take a beautiful close-up of your beautiful face." The director started the audition five minutes later, and he personally acted with the actors.

Madonna quickly changed her posture and presented her most beautiful left half of her face to the camera at a 45-degree angle.

Ronald thought: "This is a good reaction. Pretty girls are easily deceived."

"You don't know, CoCo, you have a good chemistry with the camera. Some people are born to be suitable for the camera, they seem to be able to make love with the camera. Marilyn Monroe is like this, and you are also..."

"Really?" Madonna smiled brightly, raised her chin slightly, and imitated a classic pose of Marilyn Monroe. It can be seen that she has deliberately learned to imitate Monroe.

Unexpectedly good. I didn't expect Madonna to look like Monroe from certain angles. The audience of the movie will definitely like it. The director seemed to be smiling, and the opportunity was beckoning.

"Take off your shirt."

"What? You are kidding, cowboy, right?" Madonna's expression when she said this was not shy or embarrassed, but simply... flirting.

"Of course not. What's wrong with you? You're like a stupid art high school student. I thought you were a professional. Is there any problem?" The director curled his lips and continued reading the lines.

Madonna's white T-shirt had no buttons, so she simply took off her T-shirt and said, "I can do it...ah, no, I can't..."

Ronald covered his face.

"Why did you act like that in the end? That's not shyness, that's flirting." In the discussion afterwards, Madonna was eliminated without any surprise. That kind of bold and unrestrained style may be suitable for playing a porn star. Ronald drove her home.

"Didn't you ask me to act based on my life experience?"

"Oh my gosh, you have to read the script. You started off acting pretty well, but in the end you ended up flirting with the director. In the script, CoCo is a high school student and hasn't graduated yet."

"I was like this when I was in high school. I would purposely do somersaults in the hallway wearing a cheerleading miniskirt. Then the boys would secretly look at my skirt, hahaha."

"God, do you know you were eliminated? I've given you the answer for nothing." Ronald couldn't stand her lack of heart.

"Of course," Madonna stopped laughing and turned serious. "I'm used to it. I'm always rejected during auditions. I prefer acting to singing. But they all think I'm more talented in singing."

"But I am already 21 years old this year. If I don't make it, there will be little hope of releasing an album in the future. In the music industry, good singles are all taken away by others. I don't want to give up and go back to my hometown in Michigan, so I No chance will be missed.”

"The play does have some recurring roles. If you want, you can play chorus roles."

"'A bsp;Le' kind of thing? I want to play the leading role."

Another girl with strong ambitions. "On the Line" is a Broadway musical about the sad life of a chorus girl with a background of human flesh. It seems that she doesn't want to play this kind of role.

"Am I really bad at acting?" Madonna was silent for a while and then suddenly asked Ronald.

"Why do you ask?"

"When I came to New York last year, I only had 35 US dollars. I saved up money by working as a waiter in a donut shop and as a backup dancer for famous dancers to attend acting classes. But when I auditioned, I was always told no. You are the first One said I auditioned okay." Madonna looked at Ronald's eyes in the rearview mirror.

"I'm not lying to you. Your acting style at the beginning was different from that of Irene Kara, but that doesn't mean that your acting was worse than hers. She was a naive girl who looked forward to the future. You only wanted to get into acting. The material girl in the circle is also a way of acting.”

"But then," Ronald shook his head, "your performance and lines were separated, so it's not surprising that you weren't selected."

"Why? Did I not act well? When I imitated Monroe, the director just stared at me."

"Okay, okay, but it's not CoCo, it's yourself. Maybe you can't play someone else, Madonna. You can only play roles similar to yourself. For example, a singer or a porn star."

"It is indeed a bit difficult to play a leading role, and it is also difficult to get into the film industry. Maybe you first make a name for yourself in music, and then someone will ask you to play a leading role. Just like Olivia Newton-John, the heroine of 'Grease' , her songs hit the charts first, and then the movie invited her.”

Ronald spoke his mind and quickly dropped Madonna off at her modest East Village apartment.

"Keep working hard and you will succeed."

Madonna got out of the car and looked back at Ronald, "Come in for a cup of coffee?"

"This..." Ronald hesitated.

"You know, I've never had friends like you who, to be honest, say I'm good at acting, but in fact they just want to sleep with me." Madonna looked at Ronald with her big eyes.

"Well, I hope you still have some food at home."

Entering through the dark and narrow hallway, Madonna turned on the light with a snap.

"Sorry, I only have some donuts. The clerk can take a few expired ones home for free every day."

"It's okay, I'd also like some hot coffee."

A passionate lips kissed her, and Madonna looked up at Ronald.

"Hey, you don't actually have to do this. I didn't let you get the part, so..." Ronald said.

Madonna hooked her hand around Ronald's neck, "You helped me, and I repay you. Isn't that good? Do you not like me? Or do you not like women?"

"No, I just hope you don't think it's unfair."

The girl looked up at him, then reached down, "But your body is saying another answer."

Ronald hugged the girl tightly and pushed her against the wall.

"Boom, boom, boom..."

The Italian guy next door started knocking on the wooden wall in the middle of the apartment and started cursing with a thick Italian accent.

"Fanculo! You've been pounding the wall for half an hour, Puttana. Make your man hurry up. Otherwise my wall will break."

The early morning sunlight shines on the windows of the Alphabet City apartment in the East Village. The sunlight shines through the gaps in the curtains and shines on the bedside.

"My dear, do I have to go?" Ronald, who had already taken a shower and freshened up, stood beside the bed refreshed and looked at the sleepy girl and said.

"Goodbye." Madonna turned her head away from the sun.

Just as Ronald opened the door, Madonna's voice came: "Someone told me that in New York, having sex is a good way to meet new friends. You are the best friend I know."

Ronald started the car, pressed the button to lower the window, and let the sun and breeze blow into the car.

"Is this what we need? Have I become mature as Margaret said?"

He stepped on the accelerator and drove out of the apartment complex.

An Italian man on the side of the road, put five fingers together, and gestured to him: "One day, one day, I will ask the blonde Puttana next door to pay for the wall repair.
