Game of Thrones: I Created the Magic Web
#221 - Cunning sea monster
The joyful atmosphere of the banquet almost suffocated Falia Flowers.
The musicians played stale tunes, either praising the glorious history of the Shield Islands' resistance against the Ironborn, or extolling the royal family and honored guests from Highgarden.
“Shields Forged,” “Bloodied Oak Shield,” “The Rains of Castamere,” “Fire and Blood,” “The Golden Rose”…
It was enough to make one drowsy.
The jesters and clowns feigned humor, but were not funny at all, especially when they made jokes by mocking people.
Falia was, of course, a prime target for the jesters.
The bastard daughter of the Earl—what a suitable identity! They didn't have to worry about her retaliation, and they could attract the attention of the guests.
She could only focus her mind on the work itself to avoid greater embarrassment.
Fortunately, Lord Beric Dondarrion was a polite gentleman, who did not flirt with her, nor utter a single frivolous word.
He only spoke with the other guests in words she couldn't understand.
Falia didn't understand at all.
What did it mean that "the First Fleet has been re-equipped and is ten times more powerful than before"?
Was "God's Grace" not just a simple blessing?
What did it mean that "the captains and liaison officers of each ship will be selected and appointed from the families' heirs"? Was it referring to the Shield Islands fleet?
Hadn't they already formed an alliance? Why was the royal family still interfering with the fleet's appointments?
Falia Flowers had never heard of such a thing.
And these proud and selfish Earls did almost nothing to resist.
What the King wanted was their most precious fleet!
The strangest thing was that these seated people would often suddenly interrupt themselves while speaking, followed by a dazed and blank silence, and then they would smile at each other as if they had successfully finished talking!
It was simply a bizarre dream without any logic.
Falia only felt that if she wasn't crazy, then they were all crazy.
But that was simply impossible.
In short, she was completely out of place with them, in two different worlds. One in heaven, one on earth.
What on earth was happening?
Falia Flowers was deeply depressed and puzzled.
It had only been three days since her father received the raven from Highgarden, the Shield Islands' warships had only entered the port yesterday, and the King and the people from Highgarden had only entered the castle late last night.
What could have happened in such a short period of time?
Time passed by slowly.
Falia Flowers tried her best to keep herself busy with running errands and serving, not thinking about any sadness. But time still passed so slowly that it felt like a whole year had passed, even though it was only noon.
Fortunately, her father seemed to have finally tired of the noisy banquet, and went out with Garlan, allowing the guests to rest at will without being constrained by etiquette.
She was fortunate enough to accompany Lord Beric Dondarrion for a walk in the castle.
The small castle accommodated too many guests.
But the air was still much fresher and more comfortable than in the banquet, making the smile on Falia's face more sincere. As long as she didn't think about Garlan.
Humph! Men!
“Falia Flowers?”
Lord Beric in front asked, without turning his head or stopping his steps.
So condescending.
Falia rolled her eyes at him, “You guessed it.”
Beric Dondarrion, facing the flower-lined path, inexplicably chuckled twice.
His light screen was equipped with monitoring functions.
“Falia, you're quite bold. Why did you look so timid at the banquet?”
“Interesting.”
Beric Dondarrion turned around.
The man's eyes seemed certain that she had done something bad, and Falia couldn't help but feel bewildered.
“Falia Flowers, are you willing to be loyal to the King and serve the country? Even if it requires you to enforce the law impartially against your own relatives, treat everyone equally, and never conceal anything?” Lord Beric suddenly questioned.
Falia was even more confused.
Suddenly.
A soldier emerged from nowhere, a guy with a six-pointed star cloak, a member of the King's Guard.
The Kingsguard walked towards her.
Falia couldn't help but take two steps back, hesitantly saying, “My Lord, this is House Hewett's castle. You are His Majesty the King's representative, don't do anything foolish.”
Beric Dondarrion smiled, “Don't worry, this is the King's gift, a medium for truth and power.”
Falia looked around and realized that she had already reached a quiet corner, without any outsiders.
Should she shout for help?
Falia only hesitated for a moment. No, her father didn't care at all, her stepmother and good sisters couldn't wait for something to happen to her, even Garlan…
Who would care about a bastard daughter? Only more scolding and contempt.
She closed her eyes tightly and gave up struggling.
In her blurred senses, a figure approached, walked behind her, and *tsch*, it seemed to be a dagger…
Beric Dondarrion returned to the hall.
Before long, the Earl and knights gathered again, but all the women and children were absent, and most of the dishes and servants were also removed.
The atmosphere became much more serious and proper.
Falia Flowers realized: the banquet was over. Now, it was the adults' meeting.
I should leave, right? She thought.
But the magnificent “light screen” wanted her to stay, even sit down, occupying a seat!
The vicious stepmother wasn't qualified, but she was!
Thinking of this, she couldn't stop trembling all over, and the phantom pain in the back of her neck also disappeared without a trace in an instant, and then recurred, but turned from pain to pleasure.
I am the King's person!
The once-familiar lords and knights looked at her. Falia no longer cowered, but looked back calmly, smiling gently and confidently.
Dong dong~
Lord Beric knocked on the table: “His Majesty has approved Falia Flowers to be the liaison officer of the First Fleet of the Shield Islands fleet, conveying the King's and the Naval Department's orders, and reporting petitions to the Hewett family.”
The nobles' eyes flickered. Speaking of which, Falia was indeed of Hewett family blood, so this appointment seemed to be appropriate.
Moreover, the Kingsguard controlled that kind of power, and Highgarden had already made its choice.
Earl Humphrey Hewett showed a gratified smile to his bastard daughter, “Falia, do a good job in the future and don't let His Majesty down.”
Falia felt her eyes moist for no reason.
She tried to hold back her tears, but her voice couldn't be completely calm, “Yes, Father.”
The “brave” Garlan coughed, “Everyone, I regret to inform you that the fierce and cunning sea monster, Euron Greyjoy, is sailing towards the Shield Islands with more than a dozen warships! He will arrive this afternoon!”
The hall immediately erupted!
Everyone looked at Garlan Tyrell. What's the situation? How did he know? How did they only just find out?
“This bunch is not worth worrying about.” Lord Beric reassured, “The Royal Fleet has already set off from Arbor, and is expected to arrive in the next day or two. That's more than three hundred powerful warships! No weaker than the current Shield Fleet!”
Garlan Tyrell sighed secretly, but could only take on the thankless role, “Only, Greyshield Island and Greenshield Island may suffer some losses.”
The nobles of the two islands couldn't help but look gloomy.
The closest to the northern sea route were their territories, and now the fleets were all gathered on Oakenshield Island, how could their homes defend against the Ironborn?
Damn sea monster!
Wasn't Euron doing piracy across the Narrow Sea? Why did he have to come and attack the Shield Islands? It had to be said that it was indeed unexpected.
Cunning sea monster!
People looked at Garlan, their eyes seeming to blame him.
But Garlan had only just learned the news. From Beric Dondarrion.
But he couldn't argue.
“His Majesty has instructions.” Beric said solemnly.
