Game of Thrones: Lord of Winter
Chapter 201 The real murderer?
"I've been waiting for you for a long time, sir."
The figure suddenly jumped up from the edge of the wooden bed, and the dagger in his hand was sharp and sharp.
When Cole turned his head, time slowed down, and he took in the man's appearance in the moonlight.
The man was not tall, thin, with messy gray-black hair, dark brown clothes, and cold eyes that seemed to blend into the night.
He stared at the dagger. The attack came unexpectedly. If Caesar hadn't suddenly sent him a warning, he would have been hit by it. Looking at the trajectory of the dagger falling, Cole felt that he could dodge it.
As long as he kept a distance, he would have a chance to draw the Winter Blade.
Cole wanted to dodge between the mattresses, but saw another figure rushing out of the darkness. There was more than one assassin!
The man wanted to attack from behind, and his movements were amazingly fast, and he also held a dagger in his hand.
Death approached him from front and back in an instant, and the chances left for him were almost completely blocked. With every second that passed, the stranger was one step closer to him.
"You have offended someone, my lord, and someone has offered to buy your life."
Time returned to normal speed in his eyes, and he only heard the assassin behind him say.
The dagger missed and passed by Cole's arm. The owner of the other dagger was firmly grasped by his wrist, and the dagger was frozen in mid-air. A curse flew out of the mouth of the assassin who swung in the air, and the sharp blade of the dagger turned in his hand and stabbed Cole's chest again.
He twisted the skinny wrist in his hand hard, and the man whose wrist was grasped by Cole groaned in pain. He pulled the man to block the assassin's dagger, and then caught the man's dropped dagger with his hand.
The assassin saw his companion blocking in front of him, knowing that the assassination had failed, he stabbed the dagger directly into his accomplice's throat, then turned and ran to the door.
Blood was spilled on Cole's body. He pushed the screaming man in front of him away and chased him to the door, but the assassin was extremely agile. When he ran to the door, he had already disappeared from the corridor.
When he returned to the bedroom, the man was dead, and the blood looked black in the night. Finally, someone was startled by the scream, and the first to arrive was the night patrol guard.
A team of people rushed to the tower with torches, and they were all shocked when they saw the scene in the room.
"Your Highness, what happened here?" The leading knight took a look at the bleeding corpse.
"Someone paid to buy my life, Sir Kag." Cole told him.
The knight shuddered. The prince was attacked by an assassin on the night he was on duty. A panic spread in his heart, but the anger did not come as he imagined.
"There is another assassin hiding in the castle. Take your people to find him." The prince ordered him calmly, and then described the assassin's characteristics in detail.
Cole stayed in the study all night, and summoned all the ministers to the royal meeting. Storm's End was in turmoil because of his assassination. Hundreds of soldiers in the castle went out to sweep the room by room.
It was not until dawn that José came to see him with a body.
"Your Highness, he was dead when we found him." José told him.
"He died a long time ago." Maester Pylos touched the body and said. "At least four or five hours."
"Where was it found?" Prime Minister Davos asked. He felt a little scared. If Cole was assassinated, it would be hard to imagine what would happen to Storm's End.
"Outside the Prince's Tower." José said.
The Prince's Tower is the territory of Fallenwood and Nightsong. The prince placed them there. Legend has it that the old king 'Jehaerys' once hid there when his uncle, the cruel Maegor, was in power.
Thinking of the body appearing around Earl Heywood Fell's residence, everyone couldn't help but think too much. They knew that Heywood Fell was not present at the dinner yesterday.
Cole thought about why Heywood Fell hired an assassin. Was it just to get rid of the 50 gold dragons? No, it couldn't be that simple. Either he had another purpose, or someone wanted to frame him.
Trial, assassination, and then framing, it seemed that everything was pushing him and Heywood Fell in the opposite direction.
Was it Lannister who wanted to sow discord between him and the lord? He thought quickly.
It was not easy to let the assassin enter the castle and then his bedroom. The only one who had this ability could be the lord of the Stormlands, so who could it be? He went through the nobles of each family in his mind.
Cole remembered that Gilbert had reminded him that the lords seemed to have some complaints about his alliance with Dorne.
"Will it be a conspiracy?" Gilbert said. It was self-evident who wanted Cole to die the most. He knew that the traitor must still be in the castle. Someone had betrayed Storm's End, and Heywood Fell was undoubtedly the most suspicious.
"Put the castle on alert, and check if anyone has seen these two people?" Cole ordered Jose.
Jose followed the order and left.
The news of the prince's assassination spread quickly, and the whole Storm's End became panic-stricken. The one who suffered the most was naturally Heywood Fell. The murderer's body was found under the tower where he lived, and it was discovered by his own guards.
He was indeed dissatisfied with the verdict that he was framed for killing the merchant's daughter, but since he had proven his innocence, he had no intention of making enemies with the prince over this matter. He did not attend the dinner that day simply because he was drunk with his knights. When he woke up, it was because the soldiers of the castle were searching for the assassin.
The castle's alert lasted only a few days before it was lifted. There was no major action. The prince attended banquets and courts as usual, as if everything had returned to normal, but Heywood felt that every day was like a year.
His knight gave him a suggestion and asked him to return to his territory first.
"My lord, Sir Oakley Cullen is visiting."
Heywood, who was drinking wine in distress, heard the visitor and told his servant, "Please let him in."
The residence in Nightsong City was next to them. Heywood had a good chat with Oakley Cullen these days.
"My lord, is the wine from Qingting Island still to your taste?"
"I have been ruined by wine." He said bitterly.
"The gossip of stable boys and servants is like the ballads of jesters that have always fooled the world. It is not difficult to imagine that our prince is buying into this." Oakley Cullen chuckled.
"There are rumors that he is mobilizing troops." Oakley continued.
Hearing about the army, Heywood's heart trembled, and he pretended to be calm and asked: "What is the prince going to do?"
"The answer may not be good for us, Heywood." His expression suddenly became solemn, "You know, the assassin is outside our residence."
"Sir, the meal you asked for is here." The servant pushed the door open and entered, followed by a maid carrying a plate.
