Green Monster Epic
#111 - Return of the Flower Snake
Og暦 13341, the Month of Frostfall arrived, leaving less than two months until the next New Year.
While the northern and southern continents were experiencing either the hot summer or the cold winter, the climate for the hobgoblins in Green Lake Village was only slightly refreshing.
"Clang! Clang!"
The sound of metal rang out from the southwest corner watchtower. The males staying behind in the tribe put down their work and grabbed their weapons, gathering towards the source of the sound.
Although their movements appeared chaotic, lacking much order or coordination, Allen, who was also dragging his two-handed sword over, felt somewhat self-satisfied.
After all the days spent tempering the tribe's character, they had finally undergone some changes. As the families gradually became more stable, one after another, good news came from the females of each household. Furthermore, the privacy brought about by living separately in individual houses allowed the tribesmen to enjoy this state.
Every day, they busied themselves in the tribe during the day, and after eating and drinking their fill, they returned home, embracing their wives and whispering sweet nothings in their own houses, doing interesting things. Life was much better than before.
"What's the situation?"
Many tribesmen arrived at the west corner watchtower earlier than Allen, and were already climbing up to look out.
"It's nothing, it seems like Flower Snake is back."
The tribesman on the watchtower observed for a long time before finally making out the distant figure, and quickly replied when he heard Allen's inquiry.
"… … Alright, everyone disperse, go back to what you were doing."
Seeing that there was nothing major, Allen asked Ah Xiao and the others to dismiss the tribesmen.
After everyone dispersed, Allen and the others walked towards the south gate to welcome Flower Snake's return.
Speaking of which, Flower Snake had been out in the wilderness for more than two months. Allen couldn't imagine how Flower Snake could endure the loneliness of being alone for so long. But now that he was back, he must have gained something.
"Chieftain, I'm back."
More than two months of wilderness life had added a bit of maturity to Flower Snake's young face, along with several scars. One of them almost slashed his left eye, running directly from the corner of his eye to his jaw. It was likely that this wound would be even more terrifying and dangerous while it was still healing.
Behind Flower Snake, there was also a little tail, a small goblin with wide eyes, hiding behind him and peeking at Allen and the others.
"It's good that you're back, everyone has been missing you."
Allen was very pleased. Flower Snake's return was the greatest joy. As for whether he had improved or not, Allen didn't care at all at this time. Instead, after seeing the little tail behind Flower Snake, Allen frowned and asked somewhat unhappily: "Why did you bring back such a burden? The tribe already has enough idlers."
Allen didn't like goblins from the bottom of his heart. It wasn't that they weren't diligent enough; in fact, they were the most honest and hardworking tribesmen. However, their individual strength was too weak, and they couldn't even beat a hobgoblin cub who was not yet an adult, 6-7 years old. No one would think highly of these guys.
"When I was adventuring in the wilderness, I encountered a raging lion attacking a wandering goblin family, and she was the lucky one who survived. If I hadn't taken her with me, she probably wouldn't have survived two days in the wilderness."
Flower Snake gently stroked the little goblin female's hair, his eyes filled with a tenderness that Allen had never seen before.
Of course, what Flower Snake didn't say was that it was during the one-on-one fight with the raging lion that he finally broke through his limits and became an advanced professional. Perhaps it was because of the advancement at that time, coupled with the little goblin's pitiful appearance, that Flower Snake mistakenly thought that she had brought him luck, so he took pity on her and brought her by his side, preparing to take her back to the tribe to raise. The tribe had already raised so many goblins, so it wouldn't make a difference to raise this little one.
"Bad person! Uncle, hit him!"
The little goblin had quite a temper. Seeing Allen's expression of dislike, she immediately tugged at Flower Snake's clothes and glared at Allen with a fierce little face.
"Oh, you're quite brave, aren't you? Watch me tear you apart and make you into grilled meat!! Little goblin meat is the most tender and fragrant!"
Allen immediately became interested. As his strength gradually increased, the tribesmen often became restrained when facing him. Even Da Shan, Ah Xiao, and the others didn't dare to be too casual after being punished by Allen a few times, which made Allen feel like something was missing in his heart. But Allen himself couldn't say exactly what it was, and even when he asked Philip, he hesitated and didn't say anything.
"Ah!! Uncle!!"
The little girl was frightened by Allen's lifelike expression, and immediately cried out, hugging Flower Snake's leg and refusing to let go, which made Allen feel embarrassed and unable to step down.
Flower Snake patiently comforted the little girl and handed her over to Camellia to take her to the cafeteria to prepare some food. Only then did he have time to chat with Allen and the others about his experiences these days. However, at some point, Flower Snake's partner, a female earth goblin with a big belly, came to him with affectionate eyes, and without saying a word, walked by Flower Snake's side, attracting most of Flower Snake's attention.
"Okay, now you can see clearly, we've taken good care of your family, right?"
Allen joked, but didn't receive the expected response. At this time, Flower Snake's calloused hand gently stroked his partner's big belly, his movements gentle. Perhaps only after living alone in the wilderness for several months would he understand the benefits of living in a social group, and at the same time, he would more urgently need a stable bond to let himself know that in another part of the world, someone cares about him, and his bloodline continues.
"You go back first, I'll go home later."
Flower Snake was rarely so gentle, and said softly in his partner Aisha's ear.
Having received Flower Snake's message and seeing him in person, Aisha was relieved, and now she obediently left.
"During this trip, I was very lucky and finally completed my advancement 10 days ago. I am now a level 1 Sword Dancer."
At this time, Flower Snake finally changed his face when facing Allen and his partners, and said a sentence proudly and confidently. The expressions of the audience present were different, but they were all happy for Flower Snake's advancement.
"Then tell me, what happened when you advanced that helped you complete the breakthrough?"
Allen asked with interest and began to inquire.
When Allen himself broke through to Berserker, there wasn't even much change. It was as if it was a natural process. During his morning exercise after waking up one night, he easily completed the advancement.
