Green Monster Epic
#1165 - Changes
Alberd returned to his wizard's tower in Green Lake City, to his private laboratory, and began a period of focused study, the duration of which he couldn't predict.
Vast and pure mental energy flowed through every corner of his body, understanding and analyzing the changes in this body that felt so foreign it frightened him.
The once aging and fragile blood vessels had completely transformed; their strength and resilience even surpassed Alberd's memories of his youngest days. Vigorous, life-filled blood surged through these sturdy vessels with each beat of his powerful heart, continuously delivering nourishment and energy to his body.
Occasionally, the surging blood within the vessels, a certain muscle tissue, or a specific organ would erupt with bursts of rich electric magic, which would then dissipate back into his body.
Alberd had a distinct feeling that a lightning magic beast was hidden within his body and the surrounding space, waiting for him to awaken it and unleash it upon his enemies to attack, kill, and provoke.
Buzz ~ ~ ~
Alberd only needed to think about it; without making any magical gestures or chanting incantations, twelve lightning shields appeared on the surface of his body. Each shield was rich in magic, enough to withstand a legendary-level spell or attack.
Then, with a gentle wave of his hand, a surge of magic instantly spread from his arm, transforming into a terrifying lightning spell that immediately destroyed countless precise instruments in the laboratory.
"…"
The lightning-type legendary mage felt no joy in his heart at this moment, but rather a sense of unspeakable frustration. As a mage, if he couldn't understand the mysteries of his own body, if he didn't know how magic was conceived and activated within him, then he was truly an incompetent mage.
Besides the frustration, Alberd did feel immense joy. His strength at the peak of the legendary high-level realm granted him another century of time, giving him ample opportunity to climb to greater heights. The potential of his transformed body had become greater than before, and his thinking had become clearer and sharper. His affinity and perception of electric magic had also greatly improved.
Even more miraculous was that his brain contained many things related to the mysteries of nature. Some were mysterious magical runes, while others were continuous scenes.
For example, water vapor evaporated from the sea, rising to tens of thousands of meters in the air, where it encountered strong, icy gales and condensed into tiny droplets. Countless droplets then gathered into vast clouds. Within the clouds, countless water droplets of different sizes collided and rubbed against each other, converging and splitting, and electric magic elements were born from this transformation.
When the electric elements nurtured in one cloud became large enough, and they encountered another cloud that had also nurtured a large electric element, a flash of lightning of great power was born.
Watching these scenes full of profound meaning from a third-person perspective, Alberd seemed to have found answers to several questions that had been lingering in his mind for many years, but at the same time, he had more questions and conjectures. If he were given enough time, enough data, and observation, then Alberd, continuing to explore in this direction, would inevitably be able to create a lightning magic of great power.
A mage's strength comes from the rules they master. As long as they have a deep enough understanding of the rules and the logical reasoning of the derived rules is reasonable, then they can create one magical and even bizarre spell after another.
Time passed slowly, and the more Alberd understood the mysteries of his body, the more optimistic he became about the prospects of his path as a mage. The demigod peaks that once seemed out of reach to him, now, when he looked up again, could not be said to be within easy reach, but they were close at hand.
At the same time, Alberd developed a strong sense of awe and interest in the means that had made him so powerful and unfamiliar, and he was sincerely grateful and apologetic for Allen's efforts.
Even now, Alberd found it hard to imagine what great price the tribal chief had paid to transform him, whose body and soul were completely dead, and to take him to a higher level.
Such a great sacrifice was hard to repay even if he were to be smashed to pieces, especially since this tribal chief never needed anyone's help with his own problems, making it even harder for Alberd to find a way to repay him.
The only way to repay him was to manage the Green Field Tribe, the lifelong effort of the tribal chief, and the God of Cookery Church, his stepping stone to future advancement, and to continuously expand and grow. This was the best way Alberd could think of to repay him.
Thinking of this, Alberd's inner motivation became even stronger, and a firm belief took root in his heart, growing into a towering tree.
…
The anomaly that appeared in Green Lake City had spread to the high-level hands of various forces in the wilderness in less than three days. Even the royal families and high-level clergy of the human and orc civilizations tens of thousands of miles away had a detailed report describing the scene that took place in Green Lake City that day.
The description of the goblin bear creating something similar to a living thing through cooking, even if the intelligence was confirmed to be correct, still had too many people who didn't believe it, or rather, didn't want to believe it. And those high-level figures who were skeptical or had to believe it, because of this intelligence, increased the importance they placed on this goblin bear, Allen, whether out of good intentions or malice.
Creating something from nothing was forbidden territory for the church, and now that this goblin bear was able to do this, it meant that the distance between him and the gods was already very close, exceeding everyone's previous estimates of him.
Some people in the major churches of the Temple of Nature were happy and some were worried. Those who were happy were naturally those who had changed their attitudes and directions and were willing to accept Allen, who was very likely to set foot on the throne of God. Everyone would work together for the peace and stability of the wilderness and deal with the more powerful human and elf civilizations.
The Temple of Nature was now weaker than the other four major divine systems, and the Mansha Wilderness it was attached to was facing the situation of being夹击 and蚕食 by the two major civilizations. The addition of any living force was precious to the Temple of Nature.
Of course, this living force could not violate the tenets of the Temple of Nature. For example, some churches wanted to win over the Drow Mother Goddess -- Lolth, whose reputation was so bad that they still politely declined.
Those who were worried still felt that Allen and his God of Cookery Church were heretical evil gods. The more powerful he was, the more serious the threat to the wilderness and their own church would be, and the consequences in the future would be immeasurable.
However, they were helpless. Now the Mansha Wilderness tribes were united as one, and the northern border of the wilderness had been built into an iron plate by this goblin bear, making it easy for these church forces to dare not take action again, targeting the threatening goblin bear saint.
… …
“… … I didn’t expect that Lord Allen would have such miraculous methods.”
The two pillars of the wilderness demigods, who should have returned to their respective tribes for a short rest, unexpectedly met in a manor in Mansa City. Holding the intelligence report about Green Lake City, the troll demigod's pupils flashed with divine light: “I wonder how much it would cost to invite him to cook another dish of the same rank?”
“I don’t think you should even think about it.”
At the large round table, the gnoll demigod Briken leaned on the table with one hand supporting his chin, and gently tapped the smooth surface of the table with the other, his eyes revealing greed and jealousy: “With that Ursine Goblin’s cunning and wisdom, he wouldn’t want to see either of us cross that threshold and share power with him in the years to come!”
“I don’t think Lord Allen is so narrow-minded!”
The troll, Yalen, disagreed with this. At least, judging from his behavior over the years, fairness, generosity, and a willingness to share benefits are his trademarks.
“Heh ~ ~”
Briken smiled sarcastically, even though he was the one among the two who had been closest to the Ursine Goblin in the past: “You need to understand that the old dog Da Vinci doesn’t have many days left to live. Once he passes away, no one in the entire Mansa Alliance will be able to wrestle with Allen!!”
“We two are nominally one of the pillars of the alliance, but think about Marvin’s fate. If Da Vinci weren’t there to hold the Ursine Goblin back and restrain his behavior, do you think he would be polite to us?”
“As for cooking magical dishes to help us break through, would you agree if you were him?”
Although Briken's words were harsh, they revealed a realistic problem that everyone was unwilling to expose, causing dark thoughts to slowly emerge in Yalen's mind.
The struggle for power is unavoidable and extremely cruel in any place. Even in the Wilderness Alliance, which has never been so united, some rifts are gradually emerging.
“You haven’t even tried, so how can you be sure that Lord Allen won’t agree to my request?”
Yalen couldn't help but comfort his colleague.
“Then let’s make a bet and see if the Ursine Goblin will cook this magical dish for us too.”
The gnoll was full of confidence.
“What if he agrees?”
The troll’s eyes flickered slightly.
“If he agrees, then it means that I am petty, narrow-minded, and ignorant. From now on, I will sincerely follow this Ursine Goblin and see what he can do with our wilderness!!”
The gnoll said firmly: “But if he, as I expected, makes excuses and refuses to cook this dish for us, then have you ever thought about where we will go in the future?”
“I haven’t thought that far!”
The troll said euphemistically.
The gnoll continued meaningfully: “The Ursine Goblin is ruthless and has powerful methods. For our own sake, and for the sake of our descendants and families, shouldn’t we make plans early?”
“What exactly do you want to say?”
Yalen felt a little annoyed by Briken’s provocation.
“What I want to say is that with our strength and wisdom, it is obviously impossible for us to be a match for the Ursine Goblin. While Lord Da Vinci is still temporarily suppressing the Ursine Goblin’s arrogance, shouldn’t we also find other helpers to prepare for the next few hundred years of getting along?”
Briken raised his head and looked directly at the troll demigod.
“You mean…”
The troll wanted to avoid the gnoll's gaze, his tone hesitant.
“Exactly what you think!!”
The gnoll nodded heavily: “Among the many forces in the wilderness, besides the kobold saint who is about to die of old age, only the power of the Church of the God of Nature can make the Ursine Goblin fear us.”
“But don’t forget, Marvin died because he turned to the Church of Nature!!”
Yalen couldn’t help but remind him.
“That’s because Marvin, that greenskin, was too stupid!!”
Briken explained dismissively: “He knew that he had offended Allen and would definitely be targeted and suppressed by Allen, so he took the initiative to turn to the Church of Nature, which was not wrong in itself. But his mistake was that he completely sided with the Church of Nature and became their claws extending into our alliance, so we agreed to deal with this greenskin.”
“After all, no matter how we fight within our alliance, there is still a bottom line. At least everyone maintains the independent and autonomous power of their tribes. But if we introduce the powerful Church of Nature, they want to turn us all into their vassals, completely obeying their arrangements, which we absolutely cannot tolerate!!”
“Therefore, as long as we maintain the basic bottom line in our cooperation with the Church of the God of Nature, then the Ursine Goblin will have no excuse to treat us like Marvin.”
“Moreover, the influence of the Church of Nature in our alliance is currently at a low point. As long as we show a slight attitude of cooperating with them at this time, I believe they will be extremely happy and the conditions they give us will definitely be generous!!”
Allen's strength was too dazzling, and his methods and abilities brought great pressure to the two demigods. Moreover, the current development momentum of the Northern Territory was too rapid, posing a great threat to the camps to which their two families belonged. Coupled with various overly strong behaviors in the past, Briken felt a strong sense of crisis and began to plan various self-protective layouts early.
Even the demigod Yalen, how could he not have this feeling? Otherwise, he would not have come to meet with Briken after receiving his invitation, and continued to talk until now.
“Let me think about it.”
Yalen was more peaceful and pursued stability, so he inevitably hesitated at this time.
“You think about it. I’ll go and test the Ursine Goblin’s attitude and let you see if he is willing for us to be on an equal footing with him.”
Being able to make Yalen hesitate was already good in Briken’s eyes. Next, he only needed to add more weights to the other party’s mind, and in the future, the balance would naturally tilt in the direction that the gnoll hoped for.
The meeting between the two pillars lasted for two days. Not long after the two sides quietly separated, Briken took a pile of valuable resources that he had collected and went north again, preparing to visit Allen, the leader of the Green Field Tribe, whom he had just parted with, and express his congratulations.
Although the troll demigod Yalen did not go to the Green Field Tribe in person, he also sent an envoy to the Northern Territory.
