Green Monster Epic
#14 - Take advantage of the fire
The hobgoblins slowly approached, not immediately joining the battle that was drawing to a close. Instead, the main force spread out behind the retreating gnolls, their loose formation effectively blocking any possible escape routes.
On the human side, after receiving news of the negotiation results from Feli, Regis felt the tension within him ease slightly. Although he still didn't dare to relax completely, it allowed them to deal with the gnolls more effectively. Regis wasn't stupid; he wouldn't let his subordinates fight to the death with the gnolls while the hobgoblins reaped the benefits. After giving a few orders, the previously courageous human mercenaries gradually reduced their offensive, focusing more on driving and defending, determined to push the gnolls into the hobgoblin ranks and weaken this potential threat.
Alan observed the humans' actions but didn't mind. If he were in command on the other side, he probably would have done the same. While instructing Stone, Da Shan, and the others to prepare for battle, he sent the female hobgoblins to safer positions behind them, then quietly waited for the gnolls to collapse.
The gnolls were brave, but their stamina wasn't infinite. In this barren wilderness, the consumption of a major battle was something the gnolls, who had to endure hunger every day, couldn't sustain for long. Already at a disadvantage in the direct confrontation, the gnolls' morale had been shaken. When they gradually showed signs of exhaustion and several more members of their tribe were killed, even the ferocious Man Hammer couldn't stop the warriors from deserting, no matter how much he threatened and intimidated them.
One gnoll's desertion shook the will of his companions, leading to a second deserter, and then a third. After that, the rout was beyond Man Hammer's control.
The hobgoblin force, which had been waiting in full strength, never understood the meaning of mercy when facing their longtime enemies. They raised their various weapons and rained blows on the gnolls who charged straight into their formation. Before long, five gnoll warriors had fallen at the hands of the hobgoblins. At this moment, Alan, using his burst skill, forcefully swung his heavy steel axe at Man Claw, who had just fled from the human ranks.
"Clang! !"
After a long and intense battle, Man Claw's stamina was already depleted. Facing Alan with his skills fully activated, the difference in strength became decisive. In the end, Alan's heavy, crushing blow split Man Claw, along with his war hammer, into two large and small pieces of mangled corpse.
"Surrender! We, surrender!"
The death of Chieftain Man Claw dealt another heavy blow to the already demoralized gnolls. The gnolls, who still had a breath left, shouted surrender slogans, begging the hobgoblins to spare their lives.
Alan directed the hobgoblin warriors to collect the gnolls' weapons and use vines to securely bind the six surviving gnolls in place.
The human队伍s, while treating the injuries of their companions, coldly watched the actions of the green-skinned hobgoblins. Although they were somewhat disgusted by the hobgoblins' opportunistic behavior, they also knew that might makes right, so they didn't step forward to stop the hobgoblins.
"Congratulations, Chieftain, on getting your wish. After this group of gnolls is wiped out, this land will be your paradise."
Feli had to risk his life to come and communicate with Alan, trying to probe the other side's next move and whether they would continue to harbor malicious intentions towards his side.
"I hope you remember the previous agreement. Prepare what you promised me, otherwise, I won't be able to explain it to my people."
Alan made a gesture to Stone and the others in front of Feli. Stone and the others then walked up to the gnolls, who were tightly bound and unable to move. With a lift and fall of their hammers, they smashed the gnolls' heads to pieces in a few blows. The sudden murderous intent made Feli shudder several times, and his thighs trembled uncontrollably. Alan, who was secretly observing him, couldn't help but sneer at his incompetence.
Slaughter and survival in the wilderness were always so direct. For the Green Field Tribe, with their strength and food reserves, even feeding their own people was barely enough. Where would they have the extra capacity to support several gnolls with huge appetites! The reason Alan agreed to the gnolls' surrender earlier was simply to avoid unnecessary losses for his own people.
"Uh, Chieftain, rest assured, our Silver Flash Merchant Association has always valued its reputation and would never do anything to break its promise."
Feli replied with a forced smile.
"I'll give you three meals' worth of time to rest, and then we'll head to the Bonefire Tribe's camp to completely erase Bonefire from the wilderness before sunset."
Alan waved for him to go back and rest. He still had a lot to do. Now that he had made a decision, he didn't want the humans to recover too much combat power. Completing his plan as quickly as possible was the top priority.
"Yes, yes, yes."
Feli quickly went back to call Regis and the others to settle down and rest.
"Everyone, light a fire on the spot to cook and restore your strength. After this meal, we will set off for the Bonefire Tribe, so that those ferocious gnolls will disappear from this wilderness and we can reclaim the territory that originally belonged to us hobgoblins! !"
"Then we won't have to live like we do now, eating one full meal and then starving the next. The abundant fish in the lake near the Bonefire Tribe, and the many wild animals living around it, will all become our food. The Bonefire Tribe's camp will also become our Green Field Tribe's new camp in the future! !"
It seems that every pair of neighboring neighbors who are at odds with each other has an excuse, and one of the most common excuses for tribal conflicts is: the territory where the enemy lives originally belonged to our tribe.
Not surprisingly, one of the reasons for the long-standing feud between the Bonefire Tribe and the Green Field Tribe was that the Green Field Tribe's people had been instilled with the fact since childhood that the land where the evil and ferocious gnolls of the Bonefire Tribe lived had belonged to their hobgoblins for who knows how many years. Now that Alan brought up this reason, it not only evoked countless hobgoblins' memories of historical stories but also painted a beautiful prospect for everyone.
Nothing is more tempting than a full stomach. For the hobgoblins who have been struggling on the brink of starvation for decades, the larger territory and more prey on the land where the Bonefire Tribe gnolls lived had long made their mouths water. Unfortunately, the hobgoblin tribe itself was not strong enough and was no match for the Bonefire Tribe, otherwise, the Green Field Tribe would have wiped out the gnolls of Bonefire many years ago.
"Woo-hoo! Alan! Woo-hoo! Alan!"
The tribesmen might have been wondering before why Alan didn't take the opportunity to wipe out both sides while the gnolls and humans were fighting. Now, after hearing Alan's explanation, they all belatedly cheered, showing their approval of Alan's wise choice.
