#140 - Unplanned gains
Chapter 140: An Unexpected Gain
The battle was fierce, causing steam to rise from Boban's body, while his opponent seemed far more relaxed.
Boban's heart gradually began to sink. It seemed the other's strength was far greater than he'd imagined, and weakness crept into his heart, making his attacks less ferocious and decisive. Allen immediately noticed, shifting the strength in his hand and unleashing a triple-slash attack. As the opponent met it head-on, Allen took a deep breath, channeling the anger in his heart throughout his body, and unleashed another heavy strike with extreme force. The spiked hammer swung repeatedly, blocking the onslaught of Allen's longsword, but finally, under Allen's heavy blow, it flew into the air with a clang. Boban's hand had burst open at the tiger's mouth, rendering him unable to hold the spiked hammer.
By this time, more than half an hour had passed since the fierce battle began.
"Whoosh!!"
Allen pressed his advantage, the sword swiftly transforming into a phantom, directly aimed at Boban's neck, who had no weapon to defend himself. It looked as if he intended to slice off the gnoll's head with one strike.
"Buzz!!"
Boban had resigned himself to his fate, closing his eyes and quietly awaiting his beheading. But after waiting for a long time, he felt nothing except an increasingly cold aura around his neck.
"How long are you going to keep your eyes closed?"
The voice startled Boban, who thought he had entered the Yeenoghu's divine kingdom. He abruptly opened his eyes and realized that the other had shown mercy, merely holding the sword against his neck.
"Who are you? Why have you come to my village?"
Although now a prisoner, Boban was not intimidated. He glared at the suddenly appearing strongman and questioned him.
"Your village?"
Allen had been about to ask the other's origins, but he hadn't expected the other to reveal his identity without prompting.
"So, you're just a loser!!"
Allen's contemptuous smile immediately enraged Boban, who glared at Allen, panting heavily, wanting to retort but lacking the confidence.
"If, if a kobold assassin hadn't appeared and injured me, I wouldn't have been defeated by that good-for-nothing, Nason!!"
Another piece of information was unconsciously revealed by Boban. Allen felt that such a mindless fellow deserved his failure. Kobolds appearing in the conflict between the two gnoll tribes? Allen was no longer surprised.
"Want revenge?"
Allen was suddenly intrigued. If the kobolds could use the gnolls to suppress his tribe, then why couldn't he support another gnoll tribe to help him deal with the Shattered Bone tribe? Especially since the gnoll before him was fairly strong and not particularly clever. Perhaps he was a good choice.
"What do you want?"
Distrust immediately flashed in Boban's eyes, but he didn't consider his awkward position. Even if the other party really had designs on him, he had no other choice.
"I'll help you reclaim your tribe, how about it?"
Allen smiled, watching Boban with the eyes of a wolf grandmother looking at Little Red Riding Hood.
Boban struggled internally. Gnoll pride made Boban want to refuse, but the cruelty of reality and the desire in his heart made Boban want to agree.
"Your opponent can think of getting help from the kobolds, so why can't you get help from me?"
Allen's words were like a sharp sword, piercing Boban's fragile, paper-thin pride. Yes, why could Nason invite outsiders to deal with him, while he clung to the banner of gnoll pride, living in the shadow of a loser?
"Alright, tell me, how do I reclaim my tribe and my people!!!"
So-called dignity is always so fragile in the face of reality. Allen hadn't even expected the other to agree so quickly. Allen had only acted on a whim, and had no plan in his mind. Faced with the other's question, Allen himself was a little confused and didn't know how to answer.
"... Uh."
Allen's mind raced, and he felt a little flustered, but thinking of the other's not-so-bright brain, Allen gradually calmed down.
"This matter needs to be planned slowly, but I need to see how determined you are!"
In fact, Allen was just a lone wolf now. Apart from being stronger than Boban, he hadn't shown any ability to help Boban regain power. But this obvious problem wasn't noticed by Boban, who instead replied with a simple, "How do you want me to prove it?" when Allen questioned his determination.
"It's very simple. Your opponent led people to attack my village's hunting party yesterday, killing several people from our village. I'm going to retaliate. If you want my help, then you must first help me retaliate. Join me in intercepting your opponent's hunting party, how about it?"
When Allen made this suggestion, he was still a little uneasy. After all, the targets they were going to intercept might include members of the gnoll's former tribe. Would he be reluctant to act because of familiarity?
However, Allen still underestimated the ferocity of the gnolls. In Boban's view, all the gnolls who had betrayed him were his enemies. Even if he regained leadership of the Ivan tribe in the future, he would still kill off those core members loyal to Nason. Moreover, intercepting Nason's hunting party was itself revenge, and weakening Nason's strength could be considered a preparation for regaining the leadership position.
In any case, in Boban's muscle-bound head, he wouldn't consider the long-term future at all.
"Alright!!"
Boban agreed without hesitation, so readily that Allen couldn't believe it, and a sense of distrust arose in his heart. But soon, Allen put this distrust behind him. Even if the other party was feigning compliance to survive, and suddenly betrayed them when Allen and the others were about to intercept the hunting party, Allen was confident that he could kill him again. At worst, he could break through the encirclement with Flower Snake, and his life would be safe.
But if the other party was sincere, then the addition of this advanced being would be a great help to Allen and his companions, making them more confident in the subsequent attack on the gnoll hunting party, and increasing the destructive power they could create.
"I like your straightforwardness. As long as you can prove your worth, then I will not go back on my word, and I will definitely find a way to put you in the leader's position."
Allen looked appreciatively at the gnoll in front of him, and then made his promise to the gnoll.
"Let's go, I'll take you to meet one of my companions, and then we'll give your opponent a greeting gift!!"
