#149 - uninvited guest
Chapter 149: Uninvited Guest
“What are you doing here? This is Greenwild Tribe territory!”
Allen stared at him expressionlessly. He considered this restraint, as most hobgoblins would not be as composed when facing someone who had repeatedly tried to assassinate them.
“Hey, Chieftain Allen, there's no sign here saying it belongs to the Greenwild Tribe. I'm just wandering around, not provoking you. Why can't I even pass through here?”
Night chuckled, his gaze towards Allen hinting at a 'you can't do anything to me' attitude.
“Humph!”
Allen could only endure. After all, Night was the one who signed the contract with the Bonecrushers. If he attacked Night, ordered, or even watched as Flower Snake assassinated Night, it would be a violation of the contract, with severe consequences.
“I hope you know what you're doing.”
After saying this, Allen acted as if Night didn't exist and continued his search.
Flower Snake, on the other hand, was full of provocation and disdain, spitting fiercely in Night's direction: “Ptooey, you dog thing!”
Night watched Allen and the others continue to focus on collecting dragon blood, his eyes darting around. After a moment of thought, he disregarded the risk and rushed to where they were, also starting to collect dragon blood. Clearly, he had come with a purpose. However, he was too late. Most of the dragon blood had already been collected by Allen and Flower Snake. Seeing his actions, Flower Snake stopped collecting and stared intently at him, sticking close. Whenever Night aimed for a spot, Flower Snake would use his swift movements to snatch it away right in front of him.
“You!”
Night's expression turned ugly after Flower Snake repeatedly took the initiative. He couldn't wait to pull out Kiss of the Viper and stab him, but the Bonecrushers had warned him not to easily fall out with the Greenskins. In the end, he could only glare at Flower Snake before searching for the next target.
Seeing Flower Snake harassing Night, the uninvited guest, Allen seized the time to continue examining the area for anything missed. Sure enough, when his gaze swept over a pile of grass ash and charcoal, he noticed a glint of light. Curious, he reached in and pulled out a relatively intact dragon scale, about the size of his palm. Quietly pocketing this unexpected find, Allen believed there should be more dragon scales within a mile radius, as the dragon's wounds were far too large to be covered by just a few scales.
“Let’s go.”
The central battlefield had been mostly cleared, and Allen didn't want to see the kobold's face any longer, so he called Flower Snake to get up and return.
Knowing that the surrounding environment was safe, Allen prepared to mobilize the tribe to expand the search area, hoping to find more unexpected gains.
“Okay.”
Flower Snake glanced provocatively at Night before happily walking over to Allen's side. During the time he harassed Night like a botfly larva, he basically didn't allow Night to gain anything, so Flower Snake was naturally in a good mood.
Night also glared back at Flower Snake fiercely, his eyes full of dissatisfaction. As an assassin, his strengths lay in stealth and silencing. Although he also had some aptitude for agility, he was still a notch below Flower Snake, an advanced who relied on movement and agility for a living.
“A~llen~ Chieftain~ Hold on~, I wonder if you are willing to sell the dragon blood in your hand?”
From afar, an old voice came intermittently. Allen looked towards the source of the sound, and saw two figures rushing towards their direction from more than a mile away. Seeing that Allen and the others were about to return, they had to urgently call out to stop them.
The newcomers were also acquaintances, none other than the de facto leader of the Bonecrusher Tribe, the Bonecrusher. The battle between the three legendaries in the Greenwild Plains was such a big commotion that it naturally alarmed the Bonecrusher Tribe dozens of miles away. When the legendaries were fighting, the Bonecrusher naturally dared not get too close to the battlefield, but he was able to use Eagle Eye to watch the movements of the battlefield from afar, no less clear than Allen and the others who were closer.
The dragon's injury and bleeding were naturally discovered by the Bonecrusher. As a dragon-blooded sorcerer, and a fire-attribute dragon-blooded sorcerer at that, his bloodline traced directly back to the red dragon. The blood that Figglas shed was far more valuable to the Bonecrusher than as a magical material. Therefore, when the battle stopped and the three legendaries chased after him, the Bonecrusher immediately called Night and Mael to start rushing over here, to see if they could collect some dragon blood to help him break through his current shackles.
“I am willing to offer 5 high-quality rubies in exchange for the bottle of dragon blood in your hand. Or, how about I offer 1000 pounds of wrought iron to trade with Chieftain Allen?”
Rushing over, even though he had cast Lighten, and Mael had given him a hand, the Bonecrusher, anxious to stop Allen, was still somewhat out of breath. It took a long time to finally catch his breath, and he immediately stated his bargaining chips.
“Hehe, I'm sorry, Elder Bonecrusher, this dragon blood is also of great use to our tribe, not for sale.”
Allen staying on the spot to wait for the Bonecrusher was already giving him a lot of face. Logically speaking, the two sides had already broken off all pretense of civility, and only maintained the current peace because of the contract. Allen could not find any reason to have any further involvement with the other party, so even though the bargaining chips offered by the other party were very tempting, Allen did not hesitate to deny them.
Even Flower Snake, who had not found a suitable weapon, greatly agreed with Allen's actions at this time. The kobolds treated Chieftain Allen like that in the first place, because they didn't take their Greenwild Tribe seriously. As a member of Greenwild, Flower Snake felt that he had suffered the same humiliation.
“Don't refuse so quickly, Chieftain Allen. How should we say, we are also neighbors, and we have signed a contract. If you feel it is not appropriate, we can continue to talk!”
Rarely, the Bonecrusher's smile in front of Allen became so amiable, but it made Allen feel a little nauseous. He didn't want to be polite with the other party and said bluntly on the spot: “Sorry, it's time for dinner in my village, we have to hurry back to eat.”
“You guys came too suddenly. Our village is too poor and we didn't prepare your meals. Where did you come from, go back there, okay?”
“That's right, lest something unexpected happen to you on our territory, and you kobolds will try to rely on us again!”
Flower Snake was also extremely cooperative, echoing Allen's words, and said in a strange tone, then turned around and left with Allen, not giving the Bonecrusher any room to retain them.
“Eh…”
The Bonecrusher wanted to continue to retain them, but in the end, he still couldn't open his mouth. The expression on his face was very wonderful, changing through various colors, really angered by Allen and the others' mockery.
