Green Monster Epic
#156 - Return to Thunder
“Wow, we’re finally out.”
Pavao, who was venturing far from home for the first time, looked at the Tagan Desert, which they had left far behind, and exhaled a long breath. Then, he plopped down on the Gobi Desert, took off his leather boots, and poured out a large handful of fine sand with the stench of feet.
This was the first time Pavao and his eldest son had seen the vast desert. After the curiosity of the first day, they could only see the tawny sand dunes from the moment they opened their eyes until they closed them for days afterward. The boredom and fatigue gradually accumulated in their minds. Until today, when they walked out of the desert and saw the familiar shrubs and vegetation in the wilderness, Pavao suddenly realized that the hills he used to live in were much richer in resources than the desert.
“Yes, a few hundred miles ahead is the Thunder Tribe of the Kobolds. The two legendary Kobolds who confronted and fought the giant dragon a few days ago are the two leaders of this tribe.”
Mao Luo had traveled this journey before, so he often introduced the surrounding environment and the various aspects of the future journey to the team members during his spare time.
Although there was no guide to lead Allen and his group this time, Allen, who had walked this road twice and had been memorizing the route in his mind, safely led the team out. Although they almost got lost in the vast desert, Allen managed to find the right direction in the end, preventing everyone from dying in the desert.
After leaving the desert, it was much easier to identify directions and routes. At this time, Allen was looking at the map, which had been supplemented with a lot of information. They had been lost in the desert for two days and had already deviated from the previous route. He now needed to find the original road signs again to continue forward. However, in front of his clansmen, Allen had always shown an expression of confidence. Even during the two days when they were lost, and even now when he was looking at the map to find the way, no one knew the panic and unease in Allen's heart at this moment.
Trying to block out the whispering sounds of the clansmen around him, Allen hardened his heart and found the north, pointing his finger: “Go, let’s go this way!”
The clansmen quickly got up and dragged the three carriages in the direction Allen pointed. Pavao also quickly put on his shoes and followed. After pointing out the direction, Allen took the lead and walked in the front. He was not confident that the direction he pointed was correct, but he thought that if they continued north, they would soon encounter the natives living around the desert, and then they could ask for directions.
After another round of twists and turns, Allen finally determined their current location. There was no need to describe the next journey. When Allen and his group saw the prosperous town of the Thunder Tribe three days later, Pavao, like Hua She and the others who had seen the world for the first time, stared dumbfounded at the various people coming and going.
The brutal and capricious Gnolls and the greedy Ogres in the wilderness were arm in arm, talking and laughing with each other; the burly Bugbears followed behind a grinning Kobold, nodding and bowing; and there were even more humanoid creatures that Pavao had never seen before, coming and going in a hurry.
“Don’t these people fight and kill each other?”
Pavao looked up at Mao Luo.
“This is the edge of the civilized world, and the laws of survival are different from our wilderness.”
Allen's reply came from behind. He had just come down from the carriage tent after checking on Kouer's condition. She was still unconscious, but her breathing had become smoother, and her face had returned to normal.
“Oh!”
Pavao nodded as if he understood.
“Let’s not delay in Thunder Town this time. We’ll bypass it directly and go to Thornsburg in the Elven Kingdom.”
After answering Pavao's question, Allen instructed Mao Luo. Now, besides Allen, Mao Luo was the only one in the team who had been there once, and with his current status and position in the tribe, he naturally became the second-in-command of the team.
“Okay.”
Anyway, there was enough food in the carriages, and they had replenished their water at a clear stream on the way, so there was no reason to enter the Thunder Tribe. Looking at the expression on the tribe leader's face, he probably wanted to reach Thornsburg as soon as possible to treat Kouer, the little Goblin, so Mao Luo did not object and immediately agreed. Although everyone had worked hard along the way, seeing such a prosperous and large town for the first time, most of them had curiosity and envy in their eyes and wanted to approach and understand it.
As Allen bypassed the Thunder Tribe and continued north, he did not notice that a figure had been following them, walking out with a face full of dust, then looked at Allen's team moving forward, and then looked at the prosperous town and the countless Kobolds in the Level 1 town. He finally shook his head and turned towards the gate in front of Thunder Town.
“Is this your first time here? Pay the city tax!!!”
In front of the gate, a Kobold saw the dusty fellow tribesman and did not hide the contempt in his eyes. He held a wooden pole in his hand to block the tribesman who wanted to enter the town directly and shouted loudly.
“City tax? What is that?”
The Kobold patted the dust on his body and face, revealing his original appearance. It turned out to be Ye. Shattered Bone, the new tribe leader of the Shattered Bone Tribe. Ye had been following Allen's team alone about 4-5 miles away all the way, without letting Allen notice his existence. He seemed to have arrived at the Thunder Tribe easily, but in fact, the loneliness in his heart had almost driven him crazy.
“You want to enter our Thunder Tribe without money? Are you looking for death?”
The Kobold gatekeeper glared and scolded Ye fiercely. It had been a long time since he had seen such a simple-minded tribesman. It was just right to find some fun for his boring gatekeeping life.
“Die? You can try!”
Hearing the threatening words, Ye's already irritable mood suddenly burst out. In the blink of an eye, the Kiss of the Serpent appeared in his hand, gently rubbing against another dagger, and looked at the tribesman in front of him with an unkind expression.
“Yo ho, brothers, is there really a fool who dares to cause trouble at the gate of our tribe today?”
The gatekeeper only thought he had seen something very funny. While looking at Ye with contempt, he also joked with his companions around him with sarcasm.
“Tsk tsk tsk, Captain, he’s underestimating you!!”
“That’s right!”
The three Kobolds on the left and right behind the guard did not mind making trouble. Not only did they not persuade him, but they also added fuel to the fire.
“Humph!!”
Ye no longer said anything at this time, and his figure suddenly disappeared in front of everyone, like magic.
“Damn!! It’s a thief, everyone be careful!!”
“Raise your weapons!!”
“Sound the alarm!!”
“Sound your sister's alarm!! Do you want me to die faster?”
The four Kobolds acted in a panic, causing an uproar among the crowd entering and leaving the city gate.
