Green Monster Epic

#174 - Green Field Enemy Again

Chapter 174: Encountering Enemies in the Green Fields Again

Green Lake was as calm as ever. Ever since Chief Allen led his people to Thornsburg a month ago, Green Lake Village had begun a long period of isolation.

Except for the occasional human leading goblins out to tend to their crops by the Green Lake, and the village women gathering berries and wild vegetables, and collecting wild duck and bird eggs laid in the bushes by the lake, the rest of the people basically wouldn't step out of the village gate.

Originally, Dasha and the others were overjoyed with this arrangement, as it meant they didn't have to go out hunting every day and could slack off with justification, which was a pleasant thought. But who would have thought that after the hunting activities ceased, Huashe, the current leader of the village, wouldn't let the village males have an easy time!!

Before they even got out of bed in the morning, everyone was roused by the loud "clang, clang, clang!!" of the bronze bell on the mountaintop, and then rushed to the square at the top, where Huashe and Axiu were already waiting for them. This Axiu was no joke either. Ever since he ate the dragon meat and luckily advanced in rank, he had become quite imposing, no longer regarding Dasha, the old leader, as important, and often picking on him, causing Dasha some suffering.

What were they doing in the square? Exercising!!

One hundred bench presses each, with dumbbells weighing over a hundred pounds, heavier than their own weight, making their elbows ache; then 200 push-ups, a 100-lap weighted run... It was a real torment, even more tiring than hunting. Dasha was the first to be unable to bear it and wanted to quit on the spot, relying on his age and seniority to try to act tough. Before Huashe could act, Axiu stood up and gave Dasha a severe beating, breaking one of Dasha's ribs and causing his nose to bleed.

Helplessly, being weaker, after seeing Dasha's situation, no one dared to resist the training set by Huashe, and they didn't even dare to slack off, fearing being targeted by Axiu, that scoundrel, and causing trouble for themselves.

The exercise lasted until lunchtime. After everyone took a bath and cooled off, they had lunch. The only two most comfortable hours of the day were after lunch. When the sun wasn't so strong, everyone had to start working again. The log-built walls could no longer satisfy the pursuit of Chief Allen. He declared that a stone wall wide enough for three people to stand side by side should be built inside the log fence, and then the rest of the work fell on the goblins in the village.

Unlike building their own houses, which required high standards, the outer walls of the village only needed to be roughly level. This reduced the requirements for building materials, but the workload of the clansmen increased. Green Lake Village, built on the mountain, covered a large area, and there was still a lot of spare land vacant, which was cultivated by diligent humans to grow vegetables and berries, while the log fence surrounding the village at the foot of the mountain was a full 8-9 miles long.

With such a large workload, relying on the remaining 30 or so males in the clan would take forever.

"Clang! Clang! Clang!!!"

The irritating bronze bell rang again, reminding the villagers that their afternoon work was beginning. One goblin male after another lazily crawled out of their respective houses, stretched, and woke up, preparing for the upcoming labor.

"Clang! Clang! Clang! Clang!"

"Why is this bell still ringing? We've already gotten up, haven't we? Why are they still ringing it?"

Dasha complained impatiently towards the mountaintop, wishing he could run to the top of the mountain and smash the annoying thing. He missed the leisurely days of eating, drinking, and sleeping, unlike now, although he didn't have to worry about going hungry, the endless labor and exercise exhausted him physically and mentally.

"Dasha, this bell sound seems to be the alarm from the southeast watchtower, right?"

Beside Dasha, his partner, the earth goblin Weier, holding a few-month-old child, said hesitantly.

"Alarm? ?"

Dasha was stunned at first, then grabbed the nail-studded club by the door and rushed out, complaining to Weier, the woman, for not knowing the importance of the matter: "You didn't even remind me of such an important thing, you're such a scatterbrained woman!!"

Although he missed the past, Dasha was unwilling to return to the past. Dasha didn't think children were so good before, and even disliked them for being mischievous and stealing food, but now that he and his partner had given birth to a little goblin rascal, watching him grow up day by day, starting to babble, and crawling all over him, the day's hard work completely disappeared.

The village watchtower sounded an alarm, indicating that enemies had appeared. How could Dasha, who always preferred to avoid trouble, not feel nervous and worried? If enemies appeared when the chief was not around, Dasha really didn't trust Huashe and Axiu, those two mediocre guys, to be able to protect the village.

Running frantically towards the southeast corner of the wall, Dasha soon saw a group of goblin males wearing all their equipment, standing solemnly in a row, waiting for Huashe and Axiu, who were observing the situation on the watchtower, to come down and issue orders.

"What's the situation?"

Dasha's chest felt a little flustered. When he came, he saw some figures appearing on the horizon from the mountainside, which made Dasha feel very uneasy, so he quickly asked Heitou, who had arrived one step ahead of him.

"A team of ogres has come from the east, and they will probably be outside our village soon."

Heitou's skin was dark, and his serious expression at this time added a bit of murderous aura. Hearing him say this, Dasha couldn't help but tighten the nail-studded club in his hand, feeling both nervous and worried and scared.

A few months ago, Chief Allen had a great battle with an ogre. Even with the chief's powerful strength, he was seriously injured by the opponent and spent a whole month recovering. Today, without the chief, Dasha really didn't believe that Huashe and Axiu's mediocre skills could withstand the ogre's offensive.

"Do you know how many ogres are coming?"

"I heard there are about 10 or so!!"

Heitou was actually very uneasy in his heart, but he stood in front of the clansmen pretending to be calm. Allen had said that they, as leaders, needed to take the lead, at least not let the clansmen feel the fear in you.

Heitou had already advanced to level 8, and he, Dajiang, and Dasha were not only the leaders of the clan but also the backbone of the upcoming battle.

"So many?"

Dasha's expression was solemn. If it had been before, facing this situation that seemed to be at a disadvantage, the word 'escape' would have already popped up in Dasha's mind, but for some reason, now his mind was full of thoughts on how to drive away this wave of enemies.
