Green Monster Epic

#199 - The unemployed patriarch

In the Ogge calendar, year 13343, the Month of Blossoms, the Green Field Tribe welcomed another harvest day for their tribe. This time, with the wasteland reclaimed around Green Lake gradually increasing, the tribe's grain reserves began to grow.

Last season, the 400 acres of new land reclaimed around Green Lake brought the tribe over one hundred thousand pounds of oats. By this harvest in the Month of Blossoms, the tribe still had tens of thousands of pounds of stored grain, and the newly reclaimed 100 acres of wasteland added at least twenty thousand pounds of grain to the tribe's reserves.

Therefore, after this harvest, Allen not only threw another grand banquet for the tribesmen to eat and drink to their hearts' content, but he also announced a new system at the banquet: starting from the Month of Chirping Insects, the tribe would begin to distribute a certain amount of grain at the end of each month according to different types of work.

For example, the tribe's hunting team would receive an extra 20 pounds of grain each month; those who built the village and cultivated the farmland would receive 18 pounds of grain; and those who managed daily life, cooking, and laundry would receive 15 pounds of grain each month. These amounts of grain may seem small, but don't forget that Green Field Village still operates on a centralized supply system, and everyone has no worries about food and drink on a daily basis.

To put it bluntly, Allen was finding excuses to distribute the surplus stored grain to the tribesmen, enriching everyone's private lives. Then, as everyone accumulated more and more grain over time, their families' reserves would naturally increase. This was Allen subtly enriching the private property of the tribesmen.

Having grain alone wasn't enough; he also had to find ways for everyone to consume the grain. In this matter, Allen's silent dream realm was a great help.

Allen couldn't understand anything else in the dream realm because he couldn't hear what was being said, but he could see what the dream realm tasks had accomplished. The most frequent scenes in the dream realm were various food-making processes. These scenes showed everything from cutting and kneading dough to lighting a fire for stir-frying, shaping, fermenting, and adding seasonings, making Allen feel as if he had personally tasted a gluttonous feast.

Compared to the dream realm, not to mention the meager food-making skills of the wilderness, even the food made by the so-called master chefs of Thornsburg, the bustling Elven Kingdom that Allen once thought highly of, couldn't compare. Allen couldn't smell the fragrance, but the mere appearance was enough to leave those master chefs far behind.

After Allen broke through to become a level 4 Berserker half a year ago, his strength had not improved at all. Especially the level 9 Warrior rank, which he had clearly touched the barrier of, but was unable to break through. Apart from diligently training in the lake bottom for two hours every day, Allen began to act as a chef, studying the recipes for the delicious dishes in his dream realm.

What gave Allen confidence were the two things he had originally researched: one was the roasted meat he and Stone had secretly gone out to find food for and made with fiery peppers and coarse salt, and the other was the jam that even Master Pherok of Thornsburg had praised.

The methods of making these two things were all based on the dream realm's recipes. Allen searched for ingredients similar to the seasonings in the dream realm and slowly researched them. For example, fiery peppers (chili peppers) and stinky mouth petals (garlic) were very similar to the ingredients in the dream realm and were also plants that grew in the wilderness. And as for the honey used to flavor the jam, it goes without saying that other than the bees looking a little different and being different sizes, everything else seemed to be the same.

During his jungle life on the border of the Elven Kingdom while being hunted down, Allen collected many ingredients that were very similar to those in the dream realm and brought them back to the tribe to be planted by Jem and the others. Some ingredients didn't survive because they couldn't adapt to the wilderness environment, but many others thrived by Green Lake, such as those Allen named Yellow Root (ginger), Red Root (onion), White Cabbage (cabbage), and so on.

With these ingredients, Allen successively created many dishes and foods, such as stir-fried shredded white cabbage, red root braised shredded meat, stinky mouth leaf scrambled eggs, and so on. Although everyone thought they tasted a little strange at first, it didn't detract from their deliciousness. Soon, Tea Blossom led a group of females to learn Allen's recipes, and even added their own creativity, creating many strange foods.

Of course, Allen's focus was still on using oats, the staple food, to make other delicacies. In his dream realm, there were countless varieties of pasta made with flour.

After Allen carefully memorized the dream realm for a long time, he finally created several delicious foods: steamed meat buns, fried meat buns, fiery pepper oil noodles… These pasta dishes were not complicated to make, and they tasted extremely delicious. Allen proudly gave them a name: Allen Noodles. He was already fantasizing about researching more of the complex pasta dishes from his dream realm in the future, and then including them all in his series of noodles. When the time came, if it spread to the outside world, wouldn't he be proud when people mentioned Allen Noodles?

After researching these noodles, Allen also taught the females in the tribe who specialized in cooking and housekeeping how to make them. At first, they were slowly promoted in the village's cafeteria. Meat buns with a small dish of side dishes could make everyone full and satisfied; pouring oil noodles and drizzling a layer of stir-fried shredded white cabbage and meat would make everyone sweat profusely from the spiciness of the fiery peppers, but the satisfying slurping of the chewy noodles was unforgettable…

From the beginning, everyone just found it novel, but later, after getting used to it, everyone even disliked using dry bread as their staple food and actively asked Tea Blossom and the others to make these so-called Allen Noodles every day. That taste was much more comfortable than gnawing on dry bread.

Subsequently, Allen added many new items to his Allen Noodles series, including fried and baked series. Every time they were launched, they became a temporary fad in the village and were very popular with everyone.

And Allen's purpose in developing so many noodles was quietly achieved by him, and even the villagers, including Phillip, didn't notice any signs.

With so much oats accumulated in each household, and with Allen Noodles becoming popular in the village, and with many families having children, after a family exchanged various materials through work, they would also start to tinker with noodles at home, which could not only provide something to snack on and relieve cravings when resting at home, but also add some nutrition to the children. No matter how good the village cafeteria was, it would always seem stingy when adding meat and oil, unlike when a family made meat buns or meat dumplings, they were willing to add a lot of filling, and the taste was completely different.

In this way, everyone had a way to consume the grain that Allen distributed, so naturally they valued the grain they received each month even more, and they were more motivated at work, so that they could get rewarded with meat.

The better the taste of life, the more everyone will cherish the current days, and the higher their sense of identity with the tribe and the village.

(Didn't expect it? The golden finger actually popped up at this time to make a familiar face, hahaha!!)
