#229 - Confrontation (Part 2)
Chapter 228: Confrontation (Second Update)
The Oak Tree Temple team led by Nordin wasn't as lucky as Allen and Saru. Their first tough battle after entering the maze was against a large patch of man-eating flowers, guarded by a legendary-level commanding magic plant.
The man-eating flower commander was too powerful. Even though both Oscar and Nordin were legends, and they had over a dozen temple members at their disposal, they still couldn't directly break through the man-eating flower commander's territory, let alone kill it.
In the end, Oscar transformed into a treant to entangle the man-eating flower commander, and then Nordin led the remaining team members to break through, barely managing to pass through the man-eating flower's territory. Even so, while passing through the man-eating flower's territory, 4-5 temple members were buried there, becoming fertilizer for the man-eating flowers.
However, after passing through the man-eating flower's territory, Oscar and his team's luck gradually improved. Although there were still powerful creatures attacking, their two legends ensured the team's safety. Along the way, they also encountered two or three ruins, and their harvest was much greater than Allen and Saru's.
Allen's sudden joining made the other members of the temple team curious, but they adhered to the team's rules, only offering Allen a friendly smile before refraining from further action.
On the contrary, Allen took the initiative to strike up a conversation with Oscar, apologizing sheepishly, "I'm sorry, Master, I've brought you trouble."
Although in his heart, Allen didn't think he was wrong to do so, in the face of life and death, everything else was illusory, and the ethics and morals of civilized society were all bullshit. But at least on the surface, Allen felt it necessary to express his apologies to Oscar and the others in exchange for their understanding. This was what he had learned from the hypocritical Phillip.
"It's okay, my Lord never abandons any of His believers. Your encounter with us is also my Lord guiding you in the divine kingdom."
Oscar didn't care about the pursuers behind Allen. Instead, he was gratified by Allen's attitude at this time, comforting Allen while also casting a Druidic healing spell to help Allen clean up the bloody wounds on his body.
"Thank you, my Lord!"
Allen imitated Oscar's appearance and prayed with his eyes closed.
Finally having time to catch his breath, Allen quietly put down his bulging backpack. While fleeing, he hadn't even thought of throwing away the backpack on his back. It wasn't until now, when he was out of danger, that he suddenly remembered this, almost wanting to slap himself hard.
No matter how important the backpack was, it wasn't as important as his life. Moreover, most of the contents of the backpack were biological materials, magic glands, and plants collected on the isolated island. Losing them wouldn't cause Allen much heartache, except for that pouch. But now that he had escaped, Allen felt that not thinking of this might not be a bad thing, at least the few pieces of jerky left in the backpack could replenish his strength.
He secretly took out the jerky from his backpack and devoured it hungrily. Although he had tried to restrain his movements, it still attracted the attention of the surrounding team members, who covered their mouths and snickered.
Allen also took advantage of the time while secretly eating to observe the team around him: the team members were very mixed. Most of them were elf members. Including Oscar, there were 4 elf men and women, all of whom were handsome and beautiful. The remaining 5 members were different: a dwarf, an earth spirit, a troll, a human, and a gnome. If Allen, who joined halfway, was included, the goblin system would be the second largest component of this team.
All of these team members were fully armed. The only two members who were not wearing armor, Oscar and the gnome, also held the oak staff, which was the most common weapon for clergy.
"Everyone, be careful, there's movement!"
At some point, Master Oscar's ears had changed, becoming fluffy and round, extremely similar to the ears of the prairie marmot, which were the most sensitive in the wilderness. His erect, round ears seemed to have heard something, and Oscar quickly called out, telling the team members to be prepared.
The team members, reminded, put down the things and backpacks in their hands, picked up their weapons, protected the gnome behind them, and assumed a battle-ready defensive posture.
The dwarf, Nordin, at the forefront, held a magnificent steel axe that was comparable to his own height in one hand, staring directly at the passage Allen had come out of.
"The one who comes, stop! Otherwise, don't blame me for being impolite!"
Saying 'stop', there was only the sound of wind breaking. In order to chase Allen, the gnolls had been riding the wind, not running on foot at all.
"Heh heh heh!!!"
The sound of wind breaking disappeared, but a sharp scream suddenly rang out, and a bright silver javelin fell straight towards Nordin's position like lightning.
"Hmph!! So it's you, Shaja!!"
Nordin's face sank. He raised and chopped with the steel axe in his hand. The axe blade just happened to strike the tip of the flying javelin. The shockwave immediately scattered, and the javelin shot back in the same posture, caught by the other party.
"Who is it, I wonder? So it's Captain Nordin. I didn't expect your temple to know about the news of this ruin. It seems that the elf who sold us the news didn't keep his word."
The gnoll named Shaja seemed to be familiar with Nordin and the others, looking at Nordin and the team members behind him with indifference.
"But it doesn't matter, Captain Nordin, I don't want to fight with you. I only want that green skin among you!!"
"Hand him over, and we'll each go our own way. If you don't hand him over, then I'll have to have a good discussion with Captain Nordin today."
Shaja encountered Allen and Saru, originally just looking for a little amusement out of boredom along the way. He was a bloodthirsty person, inheriting eight or nine parts of the tyrannical nature of their gnoll king. Usually, his nature was suppressed by the other strong people in Mansa City. It was rare to lead a team out to do errands, so naturally he had to vent the pent-up feelings of being in Mansa City for the past few years.
But who would have thought that to deal with a mere little rat who hadn't even touched the threshold of legend, Shaja had actually chased him for half a day. If this were to spread, wouldn't it make Shaja the laughing stock of Mansa City?
Whether it was for face or to vent the frustration in his heart, Shaja had already made up his mind on the road to make that green skin feel unprecedented fear and despair.
If Shaja's killing of Allen and Saru was just a whim at first, then now, he had a heartfelt killing intent towards Allen, the green skin.
