Green Monster Epic

#27 - Departure

"Stone, you have to watch the house for me, don't let anyone take it! Anyway, our camp has plenty of food now, enough to wait for me to come back from the Elven Kingdom. Don't go out hunting, just stay safely in the camp."

"By the way, pick a female from our tribe or the slaves and have a baby to play with. And don't forget to get those little brats up early in the morning for training. Don't think you can just eat and sleep once I'm not watching you!!"

"Did you hear me!!"

Before leaving, Allen painstakingly instructed Stone, but the latter scratched his sparse hair with a big hand, chuckling, which made Allen angry and eager to kick this good-for-nothing guy hard. Helpless, Allen had to turn to Camellia, who was standing behind Stone, and carefully give her instructions.

Camellia was chosen by Allen from among the tribe for a reason. Not only is she considered beautiful by goblin standards, but she is also quite intelligent. She can support herself and two children of unknown goblin parentage, who are not as weak as other goblin children, which speaks volumes.

After a series of instructions, Allen reluctantly led ten goblin warriors and followed Phil and his caravan, slowly heading towards the distance.

After losing more than 40 elite warriors, the kobolds had indeed retreated into their shells. Although they noticed the human caravan passing through their territory, they no longer sent out teams to harass them, allowing Allen and his group to pass easily.

When passing through the kobold territory, Allen had thought about sneaking near their camp to scout, but before he could enter the outer reaches of their camp, he was discovered by the kobolds with their keen noses. The kobolds, already on edge, didn't send anyone to hunt down Allen, but a kobold warlock personally came forward and launched a terrifying fireball from afar, almost turning Allen into fertilizer for the wilderness.

After this scare, Allen dared not act alone and obediently followed Phil's team, only relaxing after entering the depths of the desert.

The desert, covered with yellow sand, was even harsher than the environment Allen and his people used to live in, but even in this harsh environment, there were still many creatures living. Allen couldn't imagine how they survived.

"Be careful. Don't think that this desert is vast and sparsely populated. In fact, the dangers hidden within it even exceed those of the wilderness you live in."

During this time, Allen had been trying to befriend Regis, asking Regis for various skills as a warrior, and the relationship between the two had become much closer. On the battlefield, Allen and Regis entrusted their lives to each other, and Allen's current simple and generous nature made it not too difficult to gain the favor of a mercenary.

"Look, there are ripples on the surface of the dune ahead. Do you believe that a desert viper is hiding underneath, waiting for prey to enter its hunting range?"

Regis led Allen, his eagle eyes quickly finding a seemingly calm and safe spot, pointing out some mercenary survival skills.

Allen tried to find some subtle traces of danger on the ground Regis pointed out, but to no avail. Regis didn't say much, casually took out a nut from his pocket and threw it towards the unusual sandy surface he had found. The moment the nut landed, a slender black shadow suddenly burst out from the fine sand, catching the nut that fell into the desert.

"Don't underestimate this desert viper. Its fangs contain a very potent venom. Even a behemoth like the Sandstorm Lizard, if not treated within half a magic hour, will die from this viper's venom. There are many more venomous creatures like vipers in the desert than in your wilderness, so you must be extra careful when walking in the desert."

"Okay, I understand."

The image of the viper suddenly attacking was still lingering in Allen's mind, and he nodded with lingering fear.

While Regis was teaching Allen desert survival knowledge, he would sometimes have the idea to spar with Allen during morning exercises, pointing out the basic skills of using a greatsword. Compared to the skills Allen had figured out on his own, the basic skills that humans had accumulated and summarized over thousands of years were the most valuable knowledge for Allen. Therefore, Allen was always the most focused at this time, trying to deeply remember every word Regis said.

Faced with such a smart and diligent student, Regis even had the idea of teaching him his combat skills, but after thinking about it, he gave up in disappointment. To humans, goblins are the lowest intelligent creatures. Even if Allen's talent proves himself now, the deep-rooted discrimination of humans still makes Regis and others unwilling to have too much entanglement with goblins.

Allen was completely unaware of this human discrimination. His tribesmen had been running around at the beck and call of humans these days, and many people even used the goblins' fights to relieve boredom, using food to lure the simple-minded goblins to tear each other apart. Although Allen saw these actions, he believed that since he had accepted Phil's employment, as long as the other party didn't make his tribesmen die for no reason, mere fights and bites were nothing to the thick-skinned goblins.

On the contrary, these days, with humans instigating them, the goblins had more training. Moreover, by communicating with humans from time to time, their common language had gradually become smoother. Ordinary conversations were no longer as ambiguous and clumsy as before, which was an unexpected surprise.

Allen quietly noted these changes in his tribesmen, thinking about how to get his tribesmen to communicate more in the tribe after returning from the Elven Kingdom, so as to change the embarrassing situation where it was difficult to even find someone to talk to.

Of course, besides hanging out with Regis, Allen didn't forget to communicate with Phil, the shrewd human merchant, especially when the other party would occasionally add other content to his map. Allen would always ask with a sincere face, asking the other party not to forget to add it to his own sketch as well.

"After passing this desert and traveling another 200 miles, we will pass the last tribe in the wilderness - the Thunder Tribe. We can complete the first transaction with the people of the Thunder Tribe there. After passing the Thunder Tribe's territory, we will arrive at the border city of the Elven Kingdom, Thorns Castle, in another three days."

Phil was not like Regis, who freely taught Allen what he knew. Every time Allen asked him for advice, he had to pay a certain price in exchange for what he knew. In just a few days, the food reward Phil promised Allen had shrunk by 500 pounds, which made Allen feel as if he was being pricked by needles every time he went to ask Phil for advice.
