#29 - Thunder Tribe
Chapter 29: Thunder Tribe
The Manesar Wilderness is home to three major indigenous races: Kobolds, Gnolls, and Goblins.
The ranking is in order, and only those who have personally traversed the wilderness understand the status of these three races. Almost every place with a tribe has the presence of these three races. Among them, the Kobolds, as the largest race in the wilderness, have individual strength in the middle of the three races. However, their actual racial strength far exceeds the Goblins and Gnolls, simply because of their outstanding reproductive ability and the protector of their race—the Kobold God Kurtulmak—who has been guiding the Kobolds to inherit their own civilization.
Although the Kobolds, who possess a deity, have not established their own kingdom—after all, only one Kobold deity has appeared in the Kobold pantheon, which is not enough for the Kobolds to establish a nation—they have established temples belonging to the Kobolds with the help of Kurtulmak, possessing their own priests and clergy. They also have mining, trap-laying, and other techniques taught to them by Kurtulmak, allowing them to occupy an absolute dominant position among the countless races in the wilderness.
At this moment, Allen stood in front of the Thunder Tribe's wide and bustling tribal camp. No, according to the humans like Phil, the Thunder Tribe could no longer be called a camp, but a town. Only then did Allen realize from the bottom of his heart how desolate and backward their Greenwood Tribe was. Only now did Allen truly understand the meaning of the word 'ignorance'.
Allen couldn't imagine how the Kobolds of Thunder Tribe, with a population several times larger than all the people Allen had seen in his life, could live on this land. How did they obtain enough food? Why could Kobolds, Gnolls, humans, and even ogres coexist peacefully?
Hey, you green skin, are you coming into the city or not? Don't block the way at the entrance. If you want to enter the city, it's one silver coin per person as an entrance tax.
The four Kobold warriors, standing like door gods on both sides of the city gate, wore full metal armor. The bright metallic luster was so beautiful that Allen's mouth watered. In comparison, his own cherished chainmail paled in front of the few city gate soldiers.
Sorry, sorry, these green skins are guards hired by our caravan. Our caravan manager has already paid the entrance tax for them. This is the proof.
Just as Allen was at a loss, not knowing what this so-called entrance tax was, and was thinking about whether to take out a silver coin from his pocket, Regis, who had entered the city gate with the caravan earlier and found that Allen and the others were missing, came back to find them. He happened to witness this scene and quickly took out the entrance certificate to explain to the Kobold soldiers.
Since the tax has been paid, why didn't you know to enter the city with the caravan? What a bunch of stupid fellows, go, go!
The Kobold soldier guarding the city, seeing that there was no profit to be made, waved his hand impatiently and let Allen and the others pass.
Now that we're here, remember to restrain your tribesmen, Chieftain Allen. If you violate the Kobold rules here, our caravan can't protect you!!
Regis pulled Allen aside, carefully reminding him.
Oh, okay.
After the initial shock, Allen gradually regained his composure.
The Thunder Tribe was able to build this town on the border of the Elven Kingdom because two powerful beings appeared in their tribe: the legendary Kobold warrior Roaring Fang, and the legendary priest Claw of Chaos…
While searching for the caravan, Regis introduced Allen to the background of the town and the various matters that needed attention while staying there.
Wow, I didn't expect the Kobolds to be so powerful.
Allen had already learned about the world's division rules for the strong from Regis's popular science knowledge. Now that he had just crossed the 10th level of the intermediate warrior stage, in this high-magic world, he only had the ability to protect himself. Above him, there were countless more powerful beings. As for absolute powerhouses like legends, demigods, and saints, they were still just a dream for Allen. He didn't know if he could even touch the threshold of it in his lifetime.
Now, in this Kobold town, there were actually two of the world's top powerhouses. Allen even couldn't help but have the urge to go forward and pay his respects. However, thinking about their status and looking at his own attire, Allen once again understood what it meant to be ashamed of his inferiority.
Because the Thunder Tribe was mainly composed of Kobolds, most of the intelligent creatures passing by on the road had Kobold heads and wore linen or leather vests. When facing Phil and his group of humans, they didn't roar threats or pay too much attention. They just brushed past Phil and the others like irrelevant people. Of course, many Kobolds also came forward and introduced themselves to Phil and the others in fluent Common, or inquired about the goods Phil and the others were carrying, making a gesture to do business with Phil and the others, but were politely rejected by Phil and the others.
In addition to Kobolds, Bear Goblins, Gnolls, Ogres, Trolls, and other indigenous figures of the wilderness were also common. These enemies, who would basically kill each other in the wild, now looked like they were living in peace. At most, there was a flash of ferocity in their eyes, and a gurgling deterrent sound was emitted from their throats.
Hey, big brother, is this your first time in Thunder Tribe? Do you need the clever Little Jack to introduce you to the situation of Thunder Tribe? For just 1 gold coin, you can hire the clever Little Jack for 3 days, how about it?
On the way, a familiar Goblin approached and promoted himself to Allen, who was obviously a country bumpkin entering the city, in Goblin language.
Allen was about to respond to the other party, but was quietly interrupted by Regis, who whispered in his ear: "The natives in this Thunder Tribe are a bunch of liars. If I were you, I wouldn't communicate with strangers in an unfamiliar environment."
Regis's warning startled Allen, and then he quickly shook his head and said to the approaching member of the same race: "No need, no need."
Seeing the resolute look in Allen's eyes, the Goblin retreated in annoyance, staring at Regis fiercely before leaving, with a fierce look as if he wanted to eat the other party, but Regis didn't take it to heart at all. It looked like he was just an ordinary rogue and thief, and his threat to himself was almost non-existent. How could Regis care about the other party's eyes.
After arriving at an inn specially opened for passing caravans and driving the carriages into the warehouse rented by Phil, Allen had to negotiate with Regis and the others to arrange for warriors to guard the safety of the goods. Two magic hours later, Allen saw Supervisor Phil again and listened to him telling himself and Regis about the next arrangement: "We will stay in Thunder Tribe for 2 days. Among the goods listed on the Thunder Exchange, our caravan happens to have a few items. I'll see if we can make a deal here."
"Okay."
Allen and Regis nodded, indicating that they understood.
