Green Monster Epic

#53 - Incorporate

Goblins living in the wilderness are numerous, with the vast majority scattered across the expansive lands, residing in families or small tribes like the Green Field Tribe. The remaining half subsists as vassals or slaves of larger tribes, struggling to survive.

However, many goblins also wander around the Mansa Corridor and between the two continents bordering the wilderness. These areas are relatively safe and offer frequent contact with traveling merchants, providing occasional unexpected gains from lone merchants or weaker trading parties.

The reason the Silver Flash Merchant Company hadn't encountered goblins was due to their decent strength. Moreover, a large merchant caravan had passed through the area just a day before, dispersing many of the scattered wilderness races, leaving fewer hangers-on for Feli and his group.

Now, as Allen and his group journeyed home with three fully loaded wagons, they appeared to be a tempting target, inviting attempts to pilfer some goods.

Of course, Allen and his companions were not pushovers. Anyone displaying hostility had their heads promptly chopped off by Flow Snake and the others. Even towards their own kind, they showed no mercy, slaughtering them without hesitation.

However, they didn't excessively pursue those who merely followed them without showing aggression, complying with Allen's orders to let them trail behind.

As they progressed, the number of goblins trailing Allen's group gradually increased, reaching over twenty. With such numbers, these previously timid creatures began to harbor other thoughts. Goblins traditionally rely on numbers for courage, leading to more reckless ventures, which heightened Flow Snake's vigilance.

The next day brought荒野降雨 (Wilderness Rain), torrential downpours that halted Allen's progress. They were forced to huddle in their tents, anxiously guarding the purchased grain, worried it would get soaked. After a flurry of activity to ensure the grain remained dry, Allen, Flow Snake, Black Head, and the others huddled together, revisiting Flow Snake's question from the previous day.

“Are you all thinking about having more females in our tribe?”

Flow Snake, Black Head, and the other young fellows exchanged glances, both embarrassed and expectant. Finally, Big Mountain, the shameless one, spoke for them.

“More females are naturally a good thing! When our tribe's population grows, our strength will also increase!”

Having experienced the outside world, the tribesmen's biggest change was their smoother speech and clearer reasoning. Although their considerations were still somewhat simplistic, at least Allen found it more enjoyable to communicate with them, unlike before when even a simple conversation was a struggle.

“Alright, I'll give you a task. Go clean up that tail behind us and bring them all to me. Can you do it?”

Allen smiled and made a decision that greatly pleased Flow Snake and the others.

“We guarantee not to let a single one escape!”

Flow Snake and the others thumped their chests, making their promise.

“Go then, and return quickly.”

Allen waved his hand, sending the group off to work.

In his heart, Allen still looked down on the diminutive goblins. Besides their appetite, Allen couldn't think of any practical use for them. A single female hobgoblin could easily defeat five or six goblins in a fight, making the idea of them hunting or raiding a joke. However, goblins and hobgoblins could interbreed, with over half of the offspring having the potential to become decent earth goblins, while the remaining half would be goblin or hobgoblin pups.

Given the Green Field Tribe's current population, if Allen wanted to recreate a scene like the Thunder Lizardmen Tribe, then goblins capable of mating and reproducing were not entirely useless. Moreover, the Green Field Tribe itself needed to replenish a certain number of female goblins to appease the young men like Flow Snake, keeping them loyal and willing to follow his orders.

Large raindrops fell from the sky. For the thick-skinned hobgoblins, this wasn't a big problem, only slightly hindering their vision. However, it was clear that this rain was a significant inconvenience for the goblins trailing Allen's group.

After all, goblins were physically much weaker than hobgoblins, and they were constantly weakened by hunger. Even a refreshing rain forced them to seek shelter. In the wilderness, the hobgoblins easily tracked down these goblins hiding from the rain, following faint clues.

The sound of rain drumming on the earth muffled the sounds of fighting. Allen idly watched the rainy scene outside through the tent entrance, while faintly hearing disturbances, cries for mercy. Flow Snake and the others returned after only a magic hour, soaked and triumphant, escorting a group of dejected, weak goblins to Allen's tent.

“Chieftain, we caught this many goblins!!”

Flow Snake was more quick-witted, but his exposure to the outside world was limited. He could only count up to ten. He held out both empty hands, adding Big Mountain and Black Head's hands, displaying the hobgoblins' furry yet slender fingers, struggling to indicate the number of goblins they had captured.

Allen wasn't surprised. Although goblins and hobgoblins shared a lineage, their individual strengths differed greatly. If ten strong tribesmen couldn't handle fewer than twenty goblins, Allen couldn't expect them to ensure his peaceful days in the wilderness.

“Not bad, not bad. As a reward, each of you can choose a female as your daily companion.”

Allen casually glanced at the grimy goblins. Finding no particularly outstanding faces, he listlessly waved his hand, tossing a sweet reward to the group.

“Hahaha, the chieftain is mighty!!”

“I caught this one!!”

“Hmph, I saw her first!!”

“Black Head, are you trying to, trying to fight me?”

“Come on, who's afraid of who…”

The scene became chaotic. Besides Big Mountain, who knew to flatter Allen, the other hobgoblins began scrambling and fighting the instant Allen finished speaking, stretching their hands towards the goblins they deemed somewhat attractive according to goblin standards.

Allen watched with amusement. It seemed that besides their great desire for food, his tribesmen were equally interested in mating.
