Green Monster Epic
#555 - Team up
“Hello, my name is Hani Ni. Faust, from the Navi tribe.”
The lizardwoman gracefully walked up to Allen, giving him a detached, gentlemanly greeting before slowly introducing herself.
“Allen. Witte, Green Field tribe.”
Allen's lips curled into a friendly smile.
“I know you, God of Gourmet.”
Hani Ni, the lizardwoman, was covered in fine scales. If it weren't for the three or four small braids behind her head and the slight bulge in her chest, Allen would have found it difficult to discern her gender.
“…Uh, those are just what outsiders call me randomly.”
Allen felt somewhat embarrassed. He didn't know when he had acquired such a title, and it had even spread throughout the major towns of the wilderness.
“They all say your cooking is very good, is that true?”
Hani Ni didn't seem to notice Allen's embarrassment and asked again.
“It's alright…”
Allen's confidence was somewhat lacking. Although he was very confident in his cooking skills, he knew that he couldn't bear the title of God of Gourmet.
“If I have the chance, I would like to try Chieftain Allen's cooking, may I?”
“…Okay.”
“Hani Ni, how about it? This is the partner I've set my sights on. We're going to spend our lives together!!”
Brigitte wrapped her large arm around the slender lizardwoman, pressing her against her own furry, plump body, sinking her deeply into it.
“…I don't think he'll like you, Little Bu.”
It was evident that these two female legends had a good relationship. The lizardwoman wasn't afraid of offending Brigitte and directly stated her judgment.
“No!! I think he will definitely like me!!”
“… …”
Allen was extremely embarrassed. As the subject of the two females' conversation, he couldn't interject, nor could he remain silent. He was completely left out.
“Chieftain Allen, let's act together!!”
Just as Allen was feeling awkward, someone finally came to his rescue. Several figures pushed through the strong individuals in front of Allen and walked towards him. The leader was Fendi, the leader of the Argon tribe, followed by Jerlang, a mid-stage legend from the Aman Shah tribe, Cole, an early-stage priest of the Raven's Claw, Yogg from the Uruk tribe, and Tim, an early-stage legend from the Snowmi tribe.
All of them were members of the Ring of Thorns team. It seemed that while Allen was thinking, they had already contacted each other. Now that they had found Allen, he no longer needed to make a choice. After all, maintaining the team's unity was more important than some risks.
“Hani Ni, long time no see!”
“Chief Fendi, hello!”
“Brigitte, are you缠着 our Chieftain Allen again?”
“Get lost, Yogg, you old dog. Be careful or I'll beat you up!!”
They were all legends in the wilderness, and everyone was quite familiar with each other. Except for newcomers like Tim, most of the guys who had entered the legendary realm for more than a hundred years were familiar faces.
“Let's bring them two along as well.”
Allen looked at Brigitte's pleading eyes and was too embarrassed to refuse. Moreover, since he had already decided to form a team to fight, the more members, the better.
“We have no objections.”
The smile on Fendi's face was bright, and the kobold Yogg's smile was lewd.
“I suggest that everyone invite their good and trustworthy friends to join our team. There's strength in numbers!!”
Fendi was very proactive. Allen's joining was indeed good news for him. Whether he admitted it or not, Allen was the strongest in the Northern Border, and no one present dared to doubt that. Not everyone could withstand five legendary powerhouses in a desperate situation and persist for several days.
“What does everyone think?”
“Good.”
“I have no problem.”
… … … …
In the short time they had been there, several team prototypes had already begun to emerge. Among them, the largest in scale was naturally the team led by Garfield and Elliott, two legends, which had now gathered more than twenty legendary powerhouses, demonstrating their good appeal.
On the other side, Jonathan, the gnoll legend, and Dick, the kobold legend, also relied on the influence of their respective tribes in the wilderness to form a team, with a dozen or so members each.
Most of the remaining wilderness powerhouses were still hesitating. Many powerhouses had long been accustomed to the lone wolf style of action over the years. Now, suddenly asking them to join an unfamiliar team made everyone feel apprehensive.
On the other side, the observation group led by Derrick, the legendary chief priest of the Church of Nature, had not taken any action since the initial reminder, quietly gathering in a corner to the west, coldly watching the actions of these hundred or so legendary powerhouses.
The other members of the team had already inserted themselves into the crowd, each looking for targets and beginning their actions to recruit people and strengthen the team, while Allen seemed a little idle at this time. At this time, Allen suddenly realized that his social circle seemed to be really narrow. Apart from the tribal legends in the Northern Border that he often dealt with, Allen couldn't find a single selectable target among the legends of other tribes in the wilderness.
Although Allen wasn't unfamiliar with many of the legends in the field, Allen couldn't really think of anyone he had any deep friendship with.
However, with his teammates busy, it was obviously not good for him to just stand there in a daze. Therefore, Allen's gaze swept over the group of figures who seemed to be doing nothing, but were actually constantly observing the surrounding passing legends, and finally selected a target and slowly walked over.
“Marcus.”
“Ah, it's you, Chieftain Allen.”
The most conspicuous thing about the ogre legend named Marcus was the huge and heavy shield on his back, which was almost the same height as the ogre. Compared to Allen and the other normal wilderness natives, it could be said to be an iron wall.
The number of shield warriors who have been promoted to legend in the wilderness is relatively small, second only to spellcasting professions such as mages and warlocks, but they play an important role in combat as tanks and protectors. Because of his profession, Marcus actually had many choices. The members of the demigod tribes had already approached him, wanting to recruit him, but Marcus had politely declined them all. He needed to think carefully about which team would bring him the greatest benefits.
Allen had dealt with Marcus several times. Alba, the ogre who had once saved Allen, came from the Bloodrage Hammer Ogre Clan where Marcus was located. Because of Alba, Allen had visited the Bloodrage Hammer Clan several times and had some friendship with Marcus.
Of course, Allen's excellent cooking skills naturally played a role in this. As an ogre clan, eating, drinking, and enjoying themselves was their racial nature. If Allen had not appeared, the ogre clan might have been able to explore a set of their own culinary paths in the future.
“Have you thought about which of these teams to join?”
Allen glanced around at the several distinct teams and asked tentatively.
“I haven’t thought about it yet. Which team to join? What about you?”
Marcus knew very well that his strength as a shield warrior lay in his amazing defense, but in terms of lethality and explosiveness, there was indeed a big gap compared to other legends.
To put it bluntly, the Shield Warrior profession was created for team combat from the very beginning. Whether it's a small-scale adventure team or a large-scale war legion, Shield Warriors play a vital role. However, if Shield Warriors were to fight alone, their offensive capabilities would only be felt against lower-tier professionals. Alternatively, they could rely on their tenacious will, strong physique, and impenetrable defense to exhaust their opponents.
Of course, there are always exceptions. Some atypical Shield Warriors possess decent combat power, but most Shield Warriors still need to rely on a team to unleash their full potential.
"I've formed a small team with a few legends from the Northern Border. I wonder if you'd be interested in joining?"
"Uh, I'll take a look first! Take a look!"
Marcus said apologetically, waving his hand.
"Okay, I understand."
Allen smiled understandingly but still said, not giving up, "However, I still hope you can consider our team. Although the number of people is definitely not as many as those other teams, our advantage is that the team members basically know each other's backgrounds. There will definitely be no incidents of harming teammates."
"Yes, I will seriously consider it."
Marcus replied politely, unmoved.
Allen gained nothing. With some disappointment, he continued to walk slowly through the crowd, constantly observing the faces around him and chatting with the strong individuals he had previously interacted with, extending invitations to suitable people among them, but ultimately, he did not receive any positive responses.
The group of over a hundred people gradually dispersed, each finding a place to rest and close their eyes to recuperate. Although everyone was unsure how long they would be staying here, standing around idly was not a good idea.
While Allen was still empty-handed, the Gnoll Brigitte and the Lizardman Hanini happily returned, pulling along a Half-Orc female.
"Allen, this is Marilyn, from the Kadi Rong tribe, our good sister."
"Greetings, Ms. Marilyn, I am..."
"I know, the God of Gourmet, right? They said that if they joined the team, they could eat the delicious food you make every day. Is that true?"
Before Allen could introduce himself, the Half-Orc Marilyn looked at Allen with great interest.
"...Uh, if there's a chance, I don't mind cooking a few meals for everyone, but I'm afraid that everyone's tastes are different, and I might not be able to satisfy everyone!"
Allen was filled with resentment. Having two females meant more trouble. They hadn't even consulted him and directly dumped the catering responsibilities on him. If it weren't for the sake of team unity, and the fact that he felt somewhat guilty for not recruiting a new member, he would have given Brigitte a cold shoulder!
Suppressing the anger in his heart, Allen had to put on a smiling face and answer gently.
"However, I didn't bring many ingredients with me this time, so if everyone really wants to eat a feast, they'll have to help gather ingredients in this world!"
Because the magic model constructed for the Dimensional Bag and the teleportation array both belong to space-based magic, if the two intersect, it is likely to trigger a chain reaction. Either the teleportation array's beacon will shift, or the Dimensional Bag's magic model will collapse. Therefore, when entering the plane, the Dimensional Bags of Allen and the other powerhouses were all stored with their respective clansmen outside.
This was also what the Temple and the Alliance Council were happy to see, as it meant that the participants in the Wilderness Competition could not secretly hoard resources obtained from the Mirage Plane, maximizing the interests of the Temple and the Council.
Of course, not all spatial items could not be brought into the Mirage Plane, but those items were at least demigod-tier. With the foundation of the various tribes in the Wilderness, they really didn't have the ability to obtain them, so they were naturally not within the scope of the Temple and the Council's review.
"No problem!!"
"You just wait and see, we'll go find ingredients for you now!!"
Seeing Allen agree, Brigitte and Hanini were overjoyed. What they said was originally just a harmless lie, only to persuade their sister Marilyn. They never expected Allen to cooperate so readily. They looked at each other and ran towards the distance with Marilyn, very tacitly.
Allen had already tried his best to recruit teammates, and he was well aware that he was not suitable for this task. So, in order to contribute to the team and also to try out the cooking effects of alien creatures, Allen was not as resistant to cooking for everyone as Brigitte and the others thought. This was also the reason why he agreed so readily.
After finding his direction of effort, Allen didn't idle around. He looked around and walked towards a lush thicket of strange plants not far away. When he returned, he had a struggling, unknown small beast in his hand, as well as a branch covered with colorful fruits.
Clang!!
Allen easily placed his backpack behind him and inserted the Bone Cleaver next to the backpack. The blade, buried deep into the ground, declared the ownership of this area, presumably deterring any fools from daring to provoke Allen.
With a casual punch, Allen's precise and subtle fist directly created a pit more than half a meter deep in the soft, cotton-like ground, with straight edges, just enough space to accommodate a frying pan. It seemed that Allen was preparing to make food by hand in front of so many legends.
The first thing to do when gathering materials on the spot was naturally to analyze the characteristics of the ingredients. While Allen skillfully cleaned the fur of the unknown small beast, he also did not forget to pick a berry from the broken branch and taste it in his mouth to feel its changes in his body. Occasionally, Allen would also cut a piece of meat from the cleaned small beast corpse and chew it raw in his mouth...
The companions who went to recruit teammates returned one after another. Some had gained a lot, with one or two foreign warriors by their side, while others were empty-handed like Allen, gaining nothing. When they saw Allen's busy figure, everyone was first stunned and then surprised. It was really lucky to be able to taste the food made by Allen, the legendary God of Gourmet.
"Allen, look what we caught!!"
The three female legends also returned quickly. From afar, Brigitte began to shout in Allen's direction, attracting the attention of a group of legends around them.
Allen looked in the direction of the sound. In Brigitte's pair of chubby hands, she was holding a medium-sized animal with a pair of large ears, like a wild boar, and holding it high to show off to Allen.
"..."
Allen didn't dare to respond, just waved his hand to indicate that he had heard the other party's shout, but it still attracted a group of eyes with teasing, watching the fun, and other expressions.
