Green Monster Epic
#57 - negotiation
"Mr. Bear-Goblin, you've been following me for so long, have I somehow offended you?"
Unknowingly, Allen followed the goblin named Jack to a dark alley. Suddenly, the other party turned around and asked Allen directly, which surprised him.
As a goblin, Jack has survived in the kobold's territory to this day, naturally possessing extremely strong survival instincts. If he wasn't inherently weak as a goblin and didn't have the capital to improve his strength, he might have become a qualified professional. As early as five minutes after Allen started following him, Jack keenly noticed something was wrong. After circling Allen around the market for half an hour, he confirmed the follower and, judging that the other party didn't have much malicious intent, led him to this dark alley to confront him.
"Not bad, your alertness is decent."
Allen didn't expect his tracking to be noticed, but after a moment of surprise, he regained his composure and calmly gave praise.
"If I'm not mistaken, sir, you passed through the Thunder Tribe with a human trade caravan 13 days ago, heading to Thornsburg, right?"
Little Jack is not only highly alert, but also has a good memory. While secretly observing the person tailing him, he had already recognized the person's origin. This is a remarkable skill for a broker who deals with countless people every day.
"Your memory is also good, it seems Mr. Jack's skills are considerable."
Allen was even more impressed by the other party's memory. Regarding his own memory, at least in the Greenwood Tribe, Allen hadn't seen anyone better than him. Now it seems that compared to this goblin, Jack, he is far behind.
"The reason I'm looking for you, Jack, is that I have a deal to discuss with you. I wonder if you're interested?"
Allen didn't hide his intentions and directly proposed the negotiation.
"Hmm..."
Little Jack seemed to be thinking, but in reality, he was vigilantly watching Allen, ready to slip away at any moment.
"How about you introduce yourself first, sir, and then talk about the details of this deal?"
Fortunately, Allen's identity as a bear-goblin gave Jack a certain sense of security. Coupled with the tracking over the past half-hour, Jack judged that the other party's intentions were at least not too malicious. Furthermore, he needed to take on a few deals to earn some living expenses. While being vigilant, he still asked.
"Or, shall we change locations?"
Allen looked at the stench emanating from the alley and frowned. Although he was accustomed to such scenes, having just come from a civilized society, Allen had changed somewhat.
"No need, let's talk here. Anyway, I know my own abilities. You probably wouldn't come to me for things that are too dangerous or difficult. Sir, you can just say it directly. As for whether it works out or not, I will give you an honest answer, and then we'll go our separate ways."
Actually, if Allen had directly approached him, Jack wouldn't have been so troubled. Jack had encountered fishing missions while making a living in town. He still had some confidence in his escape skills. However, the other party had been following him for more than half an hour, constantly observing him, so Jack was somewhat unsure about the other party's so-called deal.
"Alright."
Allen didn't refuse.
"Let me introduce myself first, my name is Allen Greenwood, and I am the chief of the Greenwood Tribe."
"We were hired by a human trade caravan that passed through our tribe to protect them to Thornsburg. After the mission was completed, the human trade caravan no longer took the Thunder Tribe trade route, so we parted ways with them."
"My tribesmen and I are venturing out for the first time and are not familiar with the route home. I'm looking for you, Jack, because I heard the bartender in town say that you are familiar with the Tagan Desert environment and routes."
"So that's how it is."
Having dealt with all sorts of people for many years, Jack dares not say anything else, but he is proficient in the skill of observing people's expressions and discerning their words. Thanks to the dark vision of the goblin race, although the light here is insufficient, Allen's expressions on his face and in his eyes were still clearly seen by Jack.
"Crossing the Tagan Desert, the risks I need to take back and forth are considerable, and the delay will be at least two months. In two months, I can earn just as much doing business in town! !"
Through his observation of Allen, Jack had already judged that the other party was a rare fat sheep. Although the risk of returning through the Tagan Desert was not small, Jack, who believed he had a deep understanding of the Tagan Desert and possessed sufficient life-saving skills, had already decided to take the deal.
Of course, even if the other party was also a goblin, Jack wouldn't hesitate to earn an extra profit.
"So, the price might be very high. I don't know if Mr. Allen can accept it?"
"I already inquired about the market price when I came. If you are willing to accept this employment, then I am willing to hire you as our guide at twice the market price."
Allen is not stupid. Although he has already taken a fancy to Jack, he will not allow the other party to extort him at will. He doesn't care much about gold and silver, but these things are, after all, the property of his tribe, and he won't allow others to covet them recklessly.
"That won't do. After I take you through the Tagan Desert, it will be difficult to find a team to accompany me on the way back. If I travel through the desert alone, then the risks I take need not be said. Mr. Allen can judge for himself! !"
Jack is not someone who can be easily moved by a double reward. Having long judged that Allen is a fat sheep, he wants to earn more money from Allen.
"..."
Allen frowned.
"Then what price do you think is appropriate?"
"At least 5 times! !"
Jack gave the answer decisively, with a face that wasn't afraid of you disagreeing.
"Hehe, I can add one more time at most. From the map and the time we traveled before, the distance from town to our tribe should be about 1300 li. The general cost of hiring a guide to travel such a distance is around 5 gold coins. I will give you 15 gold coins. If it's higher than that, I'll find someone else to be a guide."
Allen is also a decisive person. Although he doesn't have much common sense, he can also see that Jack is not a good person. Allen would never allow the other party to deceive him, and immediately gave his final bottom line.
"No..."
Jack was secretly delighted, but his face still showed a hesitant expression, trying to gain more benefits.
Before the other party could finish speaking, Allen turned to leave. This was the most effective negotiation method Regis had taught him, and also the best method Allen thought.
"Hey, wait a minute, Mr. Allen, if you think the price is not right, we can discuss it again! !"
Seeing Allen turn around and leave, Jack hurriedly shouted anxiously at Allen's back, and at the same time regretted in his heart that he was too greedy.
"Okay, I agree! !"
"Come to the Shamrock Inn at 5 o'clock tomorrow morning to find me! !"
A smile appeared on the corner of Allen's mouth, but naturally Jack behind him couldn't see it.
