Green Monster Epic

#580 - A sudden visitor

Chapter 560: An Unexpected Visitor

“Allen, you promised me that you’d accompany me to explore the ruins after this Grand Tournament!!”

The dragon Figglas appeared in Allen's castle, sneaking around, and immediately began to berate Allen as soon as he entered.

“But I’ve come here several times already, and every time you say ‘wait, wait a little longer.’ Just how long do I have to wait for you?”

Allen looked up and smiled apologetically.

“I’m really sorry, but the tribe has recently discovered some problems. I really can’t focus on adventuring until I resolve them.”

Farkad and the others’ task of identifying spies was still ongoing. The few targets identified and confirmed in the early stages hadn't been apprehended yet, and it turned out that several forces had planted spy teams in Narmore Fortress.

After discussing with Allen and Farkad, they concluded that, in addition to the elven kingdom spy group they had initially targeted, there were also drow federation spies, dwarven kingdom spies, and even the Oakleaf Cathedral had planted secret agents in Narmore Fortress. Learning all of this made Allen feel somewhat uneasy.

“But in your city, there are kobolds from the Pale Night constantly searching for my whereabouts, making me afraid to stay in your city for too long, lest they find me.”

Figglas was suffering in his heart. He didn't know how these Pale Night fellows had detected his trail. Not long after Allen went to participate in the Alliance Grand Tournament, a team of kobolds, led by the legendary powerhouse Kozmoth, came searching.

They first visited Farkad, the lord of the hobgoblin city, and informed him of their intentions. Although they didn't ask Farkad to cooperate, their tough tone made Farkad unwilling to easily get involved in their conflict.

After all, behind this group of kobolds was the only Saint-level powerhouse in the wildlands tribes, and the most powerful kobold tribe.

Figglas wisely slipped into the mountains of the Cartol Mountains, leading this group of kobolds in circles, just to wait for Allen's return.

But this hobgoblin, Allen, was too dishonest. He had clearly promised to explore the ruins together after returning from the Grand Tournament, but he had been hiding like a rat for more than half a year, and in the end, this hobgoblin actually went back on his word, constantly dragging out the time, which made Figglas hate him so much!!

“It’s okay, these kobolds can't really do anything to you. Give me a little more time, and I’ll solve the problems in the tribe, and immediately set off with you to explore the Crescent Lake ruins.”

Allen was still worried about the potential dangers in the tribe. Now that he had some clues, he wouldn't allow these risks to continue threatening the stability of the tribe. Therefore, Allen didn't plan to go out until he had unearthed the entire spy network in the city.

“How long?”

“At most half a year, and I’ll be able to completely resolve the problems in the tribe.”

Allen replied decisively.

“Alright, then…”

Figglas hesitated, about to say something more, when a goblin guard suddenly knocked on the door and walked in: “Chieftain, Elder Kozmoth of the Pale Night requests an audience.”

“What?”

Figglas's expression changed slightly, and his eyes constantly peered out the door, feeling somewhat guilty.

“Why don’t you go hide in Green Lake Town first? I’ll see what these kobolds want.”

Allen's brow also furrowed slightly, and he said to Figglas.

“Okay, then I’ll come find you again in half a year.”

Figglas replied unhappily, then familiarly left Allen's detached castle and slipped out in the direction of the backyard.

“Please let them in.”

Only after Figglas's figure disappeared did Allen wave his sleeve again, stirring up a gust of wind to completely conceal any possible trace of Figglas's aura. Only then did he instruct the guard.

The former leader of the Thunder Tribe, Kozmoth, was now the Third Elder of the Pale Night Tribe. Going from a tribe leader to one of the few powerful elders in another tribe must have its advantages and disadvantages, but when Allen saw Kozmoth, he couldn't discern the other party's intentions.

“Chieftain Allen, please forgive my presumptuous visit.”

Kozmoth lightly sniffed the air in Allen's room, a hint of doubt appearing in his eyes. Kobolds' innate keen sense of smell allowed them to perceive many things that other intelligent races couldn't, but this trace of scent in Allen's room was somewhat familiar, yet Kozmoth couldn't determine how long ago the owner of this scent had been present.

“Elder Kozmoth, I couldn’t be happier that you could come and be a guest in my tribe’s city!!”

Allen rose to greet him, walking around the area where Figglas had been standing. Judging from the other party's reaction just now, he had underestimated the other party's natural abilities, and could only use this clumsy method to make up for it.

If it wasn't absolutely necessary, Allen wouldn't want to have a conflict with the number one tribe in the wildlands, even if this dragon, Figglas, had a good friendship with him, and the Pale Night Tribe's sphere of influence was too far away from the Greenwild Tribe.

“Elder Kozmoth, I heard that you came to Narmore Fortress half a year ago. My tribe’s youngsters didn’t slight you, did they?”

Finding a topic, Allen calmly led Kozmoth into the inner hall. A clever servant had already brought drinks and pastries, placing them in front of the two.

“If there’s any place where they’ve been negligent, Elder, please tell me as soon as possible, and I’ll go back and discipline them properly.”

“Nothing of the sort, City Lord Farkad acted very thoughtfully.”

Kozmoth replied calmly, then shifted the topic to the purpose of his visit: “This time, I’ve come to find Chieftain Allen because I actually want to ask Chieftain Allen for a favor.”

“Elder Kozmoth, please speak. I’ll definitely help where I can.”

Allen pretended to be confused, knowing the other party's purpose, but he pretended to be completely unaware, patting his chest to make a guarantee.

“I heard that the evil dragon Figglas once appeared in Chieftain Allen’s territory. We’ve come this time to ask it to return a treasure belonging to our tribe—the Heart of Brilliance.”

Kozmoth didn't stand on ceremony and directly stated the matter clearly: “If Chieftain Allen knows the whereabouts of this evil dragon, please tell us. Our Pale Night Tribe will definitely remember this favor, and our tribe’s Grand Elder Darwinsson will also appreciate your kindness.”

“So Elder Kozmoth has come for that old dragon!!”

The smile on Allen's face slowly faded, and his expression became serious: “I’m afraid I can’t help Elder Kozmoth much in this matter!”

“Not to hide it from Elder Kozmoth, the dragon Figglas once saved my Greenwild Tribe’s life. My tribe owes him a great debt of gratitude, so even if I know his current location, I can’t betray my conscience and sell him out.”

"Not to mention, I'm currently unsure of Figglas's exact location. I haven't seen Figglas since I led the team to Mansa City to participate in the Grand Competition. I imagine it left long ago due to the appearance of Elder Kozmo and the others."

Allen didn't deliberately try to downplay the deep relationship with the dragon. The major northern tribes already knew of Figglas's existence and were generally aware of Allen's friendly relations with it. There was no hiding it.

"Chieftain Allen, don't forget that this dragon was considered an enemy by our tribe decades ago. Now that you're on good terms with it, does that also mean you're going to be at odds with my Pale Night tribe??"

Kozmo raised an eyebrow, looking at Allen seriously, his tone unusually heavy.

"Elder Kozmo, don't say it like that, as if my tribe is deliberately opposing you."

Allen said in a light tone, "When Figglas rescued my tribe from the brink of extinction, I was just an insignificant goblin. My tribe had nothing worth coveting."

"But I still remember that act of kindness to this day. If it hadn't been for it eliminating the demons summoned by the evil god's followers who attacked my tribe during the Demon Uprising, I'm afraid there wouldn't be the rise of my Green Field tribe today."

"How could I have foreseen that my Green Field tribe would reach its current state? If Elder Kozmo were in my position, tell me, what should I do?"

"However, I also hope that if there's an opportunity, the two of you can sit down and have a good talk. In fact, some things don't necessarily have to be resolved with a fight to the death."

Allen's reasoning was sufficient, forcing the aggressive Kozmo to treat him cautiously. After all, the goblin before him was also a genius, leading his tribe to its current position with his own strength, which was not something ordinary tribal chiefs could compare to.

As someone who once managed a branch tribe and experienced the difficulties of operating a force of kobolds, Kozmo actually respected and admired Allen in his heart. The Thunder tribe had a much stronger starting point and background than the Green Field tribe, but its development was very slow in Kozmo's hands. He had been surpassed in just a few decades, and Kozmo felt a little sad and depressed every time he thought about this.

Later, he led the Thunder tribe's old guard back to the main branch of Pale Night, partly because the development of the Green Field tribe had shaken his confidence, making him embarrassed to establish a foothold in the Northern Territory.

"Talk? Sure, as long as you can convince that dragon to return the stolen Heart of Radiance, we can let this matter go!!"

For Allen's sake, Kozmo finally restrained his emotions and solemnly gave his conditions.

"...Forgive me for not knowing much about this Heart of Radiance. May I ask, what kind of treasure is this Heart of Radiance that makes Elder Kozmo and your tribe value it so much, even more than a dragon?"

Allen actually already knew the function of this Heart of Radiance, but seeing how much this kobold tribe valued it, he couldn't help but want to test them and see how much they knew about it.

"I'm sorry, this is our tribe's secret. Chieftain Allen, you don't need to know."

Kozmo directly dismissed Allen's idea of exploring the secrets of the Heart of Radiance. He didn't know that the goblin before him was just pretending to be ignorant.

"Alright, if I encounter Figglas next time, I will definitely persuade it to return the treasure to your tribe."

Allen shrugged, answering as if he didn't care, but in his heart, he already had a feeling that this kobold might know something about the function of the Heart of Radiance.

"I hope so, but I still have to remind Chieftain Allen, don't have too much association with the evil dragon, otherwise Elder Davenson of my tribe will be very unhappy."

Kozmo got up to leave, his purpose for this trip had been achieved, and staying here any longer would only be a waste of time. Before leaving, Kozmo still didn't forget to remind Allen, but in Allen's ears, it sounded somewhat threatening.

"Hehe, thank you for the reminder."

Allen smiled faintly, answering perfunctorily.

Watching the kobold Kozmo's figure disappear into his castle, a hint of coldness flashed in Allen's eyes. He was just unwilling to easily offend the Saint-level Dragon Vein Sorcerer Davenson behind Kozmo, but he had never taken Kozmo and the team he brought to heart.

"Elder, what did the goblin leader say? Did he admit that the dragon is in his castle?"

A kobold wearing tight-fitting leather armor and behaving efficiently had been waiting outside Allen's independent castle. When he saw Kozmo walking out of the castle, he immediately went over and asked in a low voice.

"Hmph, would he admit it?"

Kozmo turned his head, glancing at the castle that couldn't be considered very magnificent, a hidden emotion flashing in his eyes.

Kozmo wasn't a fool. After learning about the relationship between the dragon Figglas and the goblin, he had been careful and let the kobold with an extremely sensitive sense of smell keep an eye on Allen's castle.

No matter what form the dragon Figglas transformed into using the Druid's polymorph magic, the kobold before him could use his sense of smell to see through the opponent's transformation.

This time, after searching the Catoer Mountains for more than half a year, Kozmo had calculated the time of Allen's return from the Grand Competition and brought his team back, and he had really caught the dragon Figglas coming to contact Allen. After the kobold scout in charge of monitoring Allen's castle sensed Figglas's aura, he immediately passed the news to Kozmo, which led to today's visit.

It's a pity that Kozmo's visit didn't get a positive response from Allen. Even though Kozmo had mentioned Davenson, the strongest in the wilderness, several times, the other party was still being evasive, making him afraid to easily break that piece of parchment.

In any case, Kozmo and his team were currently on the goblins' territory. Before completely blocking Figglas and having conclusive evidence, Kozmo wasn't stupid enough to break ties with Allen.

"Continue to keep an eye on him. Next time you detect Figglas's aura, report it to me immediately. I must block this evil dragon!!"

Kozmo gritted his teeth and said fiercely.

"Yes!!"

The kobold scout nodded firmly. As Kozmo's figure disappeared into a nearby alley, the kobold's figure gradually disappeared into a dark place in front of the castle's main gate.
