#588 - Three-way confrontation

Chapter 568: A Three-Way Confrontation

“How exactly do we open the entrance to this ruin?”

After resting for a full two days on the mountain peaks near Crescent Lake, Allen and Figglas warily and carefully searched their surroundings for any possible lurking pursuers.

Only after confirming the area's safety did Allen slowly ask a question that greatly concerned him.

If Figglas hadn't confidently asserted that the ruin's exact location was in the Crescent Lake region, Allen wouldn't have believed that this seemingly untouched primeval forest could conceal an ancient ruin.

During those two days of rest, Allen, true to his nature, wasn't idle.

He kept an eye out while patrolling the area, trying to find traces of the so-called Mansa remnants who once lived there.

However, the reality disappointed him.

Even the most easily preserved stone building remnants were nowhere to be found, leading him to suspect that Figglas might have been mistaken about the location.

“Actually, I'm not entirely sure how to open this ruin!”

Figglas raised his head sheepishly, his face full of apologetic smiles.

The reason for resting these two days, aside from giving himself a chance to recover from his internal injuries, was also to seize the opportunity to search for traces of the ruin.

“……”

Allen was speechless.

He hadn't expected such an answer, and for a moment, he forgot to even be angry.

“But don't worry, Allen.

I've thoroughly studied the activation magic array depicted on the Heart of Radiance.

The only thing troubling me is the ruin's specific location.

In the clan's books, I only know that the Crescent Lake area is where the ruin once existed, but we'll have to slowly explore and search for the exact location to activate the magic array.”

Seeing Allen's unpleasant expression, Figglas quickly explained, his tone sounding somewhat weak.

“Heh heh heh.”

Allen finally reacted, looking at Figglas with resentment and emitting a cold laugh.

“Isn't adventure exploration always like this?

All clues must be found slowly.

That's what makes it rewarding, isn't it?”

Figglas mustered his courage, shaking his head repeatedly in defense, his eyes never daring to meet Allen's.

What else could Allen do?

Now that they had arrived, he couldn't just turn around and go home, wasting the past half-month.

Since they were already here, despite the resentment in his heart, Allen quickly adjusted his mindset and began to traverse the vast foothills with Figglas, using the Heart of Radiance to search for the existence of the ruin's passage.

On the edge of the Nightshade Mountains, four or five figures were chasing each other, with the figures in the rear occasionally emitting dazzling magical glows, shooting at the agile figure in front.

Either they missed due to the constantly changing position of the target, or they were affected by some kind of scroll or item thrown out by the target, detonating in mid-air.

Only a few beams managed to hit the target, but they didn't seem to have much of an impact.

In reality, each magic spell cast by the lithe figure at the rear was quite powerful, as the spells that missed and struck the ground often caused a rumble, leaving behind a scene of devastation and ruin.

“Damn it, where is Kozmer?

Why are Drow appearing here??”

The troll Arielle constantly changed direction to avoid being locked on by the magic from behind, as well as the tricky bow and arrow attacks that were like a viper's tongue.

While dodging, Arielle couldn't help but complain to the kobold Zorf behind him.

The simultaneous appearance of two powerful tribal leaders from the wilderness in this land was certainly unusual.

Arielle and Zorf, who had originally been flying in the sky to hasten their journey, never expected to encounter a Drow party in the forest below.

As mentioned before, legendary beings emit relatively noticeable energy fluctuations when using flight skills.

For Deborah, the legendary matriarch of the Drow party, this was as dazzling as a beacon in the night sky.

The Drow, who had been lost and unsure of their direction, immediately regained their bearings upon encountering Arielle and Zorf.

Deborah, along with her legendary archer Auben and sword dancer Dejour, began to pursue Zorf and Arielle.

“Heh heh heh, Chief Arielle, Chieftain Zorf, where do you think you're going?

Now that you've arrived in the territory of our Hochreich Federation, shouldn't you at least greet the host?!”

Deborah had only come out this time on a whim.

She had grown tired of staying in Chillwind Hold for too long.

After Stuart, the captain of her cavalry, told her about the hobgoblin and the dragon, she became interested and wanted to see why these wilderness powerhouses had suddenly appeared in the Chillwind region.

In recent years, the powerhouses of the northern wilderness had been very well-behaved, especially after the troll and gnoll tribes retreated into Nasir Fortress.

It had been many years since there had been a large-scale battle with the Drow.

Now that the leaders of more and more northern wilderness tribes were appearing here, Deborah became increasingly excited, and even faintly regretted not thinking of sharing the feast, but instead bringing a few more powerful members of the Federation, so that the Drow could maintain the initiative no matter what happened next.

However, given the Drow's suspicious and fickle nature, even if Deborah had foreseen the current situation, she might not have really spread the news to let other Drow participate.

The thought that had just appeared in her mind was just a fleeting idea.

“Hmph!!”

Zorf coldly snorted, ignoring the other party's words, and only focused on flying forward, while occasionally casting a few divine spells on himself and constantly searching for the figure of his fellow kobold Kozmer, who had invited him to Crescent Lake.

Both being kobolds and having once been in the northern wilderness, it was impossible for there to be no connection between the two kobold powerhouses, Zorf and Kozmer.

But what others didn't know was that Zorf and Kozmer had actually known each other since their days of obscurity, and were even close friends who entrusted their lives to each other while searching for the path to legend.

Although with the passage of time, the two powerful kobolds gradually lost contact due to their respective burdens and worldly affairs, the friendship forged in their early years was not so easily worn away.

A few days ago, a kobold suddenly arrived with Kozmer's personal token, finding Zorf and telling him about a very important opportunity. He was to invite Arier of the Snowmane tribe to quickly head north to the Crescent Lake in the Nightsorrow Mountains and meet him there.

Although it wasn't clear exactly what kind of opportunity would make Kozmer emphasize to Zorf in his letter, Zorf could tell from the content revealed between the lines that it seemed to have a significant relationship with the advancement of their legendary high-level powerhouses.

Out of understanding and trust for Kozmer, and because the other party seemed to have persuaded Arier, the troll chieftain, Zorf carefully considered the matter and felt that it was indeed necessary to go north and see what Kozmer had discovered.

Looking down from the high altitude towards the northeast, a crescent-shaped lake, like smiling lips, slowly revealed its true appearance from among the mountains. Seeing that they had reached the true meeting point, the serious expressions on the faces of Zorf and Arier finally gradually relaxed. As a familiar aura suddenly rushed out from the ground, the two displayed their weapons, ready for a counterattack.

"I told you two to come here discreetly, how can you be discreet with such a big commotion!!!"

The kobold Kozmer looked displeased and roared from afar in a gloomy tone.

"We wanted to be discreet too, but we didn't expect that there would be a drow matron in such a remote place!! Besides, you told us to get here within five days. If we didn't fly over, do you think we could have made it in time by climbing over mountains on foot??"

Zorf retorted forcefully, and with practiced skill, he cast a Haste spell on Kozmer's advancing position. Kozmer didn't dodge and passed right through the aura of the spell, his aura suddenly becoming even more profound. With a battle axe in each hand, he crashed straight into Dyor, the drow bladesinger at the front.

Clang!!

Dyor's slender twin swords crossed in front of him, blocking the twin axes which bent into a crescent shape before being rebounded. Using the force of the twin axes, Dyor's body quickly glided back, stopping about a meter away from his companion Auben.

At the same time, Auben fired a series of arrows, shooting five or six long arrows in quick succession, directly blocking all of Kozmer's advancing and maneuvering positions. The heavy and powerful arrows appeared in front of Kozmer in the blink of an eye. His eyes were bright and confident, and with a wave of his hands, he obliquely chopped out two axes, easily deflecting the arrows that were shot at him.

Zorf turned his head and put up a lightning shield, blocking the Withering Flower spell cast by the drow matron Deborah from afar. The venomous energy slowly fell to the ground, instantly causing countless trees to wither and decay.

"Hehe, so you have companions!"

Deborah's eyes were deep and full of allure. She looked at the suddenly appearing Kozmer with great interest, then turned her gaze to the ground and opened her dark lips to shout嬌聲: "Clan Chief Allen, don't hide, come out and meet us!!"

With so many legendary powerhouses in the sky, even the unintelligent birds and beasts on the ground had noticed the energy fluctuations and were scurrying around in fear. How could Allen and Figglas, as powerhouses themselves, not have noticed?

Figglas's face was so gloomy that water could drip from it. If he had known that Kozmer was following behind him all along, Figglas would have found a place to ambush him. But now, thinking that he was safe and that there were no powerhouses around, he didn't realize that the other party was hiding right under his nose. If the drow hadn't suddenly appeared, Figglas and Allen would probably only have noticed the other party after finding the ruins and opening the passage.

At that time, perhaps the other party would launch a surprise attack, inflicting a heavy blow on Figglas and Allen!!

Allen's expression was equally unsightly. He had carefully searched the surrounding area, but he still hadn't found the kobold Kozmer. If the drow matron Deborah hadn't suddenly appeared, Allen couldn't predict what the other party would do after uniting with Arier and Zorf.

After all, this involved the matter of a deity's ruins. Zorf and Arier were both guys whose lifespans were coming to an end and had no hope of advancement. With their character and ambition, Allen wouldn't be surprised if they did anything for even a sliver of hope of advancement.

As for whether the other party knew about the ruins, Allen could tell from Kozmer's persistent pursuit of the dragon Figglas in Crescent Lake over the years that this kobold probably knew something.

"What should we do, do we need to show ourselves??"

Figglas hesitated. It wasn't that he was afraid of the guys in the sky, but the selfish dragon didn't like sharing the resources in his hands with outsiders.

"Let's go up. They've already spoken, it seems they're sure we're hiding in this jungle. If we don't go out, it will make us look guilty and afraid!!"

Allen thought for a moment and made a decision. Anyway, the location of the ruins passage hadn't been found yet. It was conceivable how difficult it would be to search this vast mountain range with only their strength. Allen didn't have much time to waste searching for the passage. Instead of searching aimlessly, it would be better to see what these two groups of suddenly appearing guys in the sky knew.

The Heart of Brilliance to open the ruins was in Figglas's hands. If it really didn't work, the two could just turn around and leave, and then bring people to search carefully after a few more years. Advancement and retreat were in Allen's control, and Allen didn't think there was anything to worry about.

Since Allen had said so, Figglas naturally wouldn't retreat. He had also been weighing the current situation just now, and he had a little understanding in his heart.

Crack!!! Crack!!

Whoosh!!

In the low shrubbery, there was a burst of sounds of trees breaking. With a gust of wind, a graceful red dragon full of power rose slowly and appeared on the left side of the opposing sides, forming a triangular shape, suspended in the air facing each other.

Allen's figure appeared in the sky only a moment later than Figglas, his eyes were majestic and contemptuous. His own powerful strength was his greatest confidence at this time, and he was not worried at all because they were now the party with the fewest people in the field.

"I didn't expect to meet you in such a remote place. It's really fate!!"
