Green Monster Epic
#670 - breakthrough
At the peak of the towering mountains, where ice and snow covered the summits, a fiercely burning ball of fire floated, radiating a deep and powerful energy.
Alan's heart was free of worry and fear. A layer of fiery tongues formed by his rage flickered across his skin. Beneath his skin, between blood vessels and muscle fibers, traces of crimson energy shimmered, making the hobgoblin's seemingly slender body resemble an ancient magical beast, full of dangerous and powerful aura.
Whoosh!
A magical fluctuation flashed past, and the legendary heavy two-handed greatsword, Bonesplitter, suddenly appeared in his hand. Alan raised his hands high, then slowly lowered them. With each inch he lowered, it felt as if he was bearing more energy, and the muscles and veins in his arms bulged even more.
The whistling cold wind seemed to be summoned by the Goddess of Wind, ceasing all movement. The air at the summit became silent for a moment.
When his arms were outstretched in front of him, Alan suddenly accelerated, his arm muscles swelling by a circle, almost tearing the close-fitting black dragon scale armor. The pure white mountain body beneath his feet, tens of meters away from the blade, suddenly erupted with a deafening roar.
The ancient mountain before Alan was crushed into dust. Icy wind and snow mixed with gray dust, creating a cloud that soared into the sky, covering half the horizon.
“Roar!!!!!”
A roar mixed with excitement and other emotions burst from Alan's chest, breaking through his throat, and even triggered a shockwave among the soaring clouds, causing the clouds to spread even faster.
Decades of hard work and tempering finally led to today's true breakthrough. The powerful strength brought by the tenth level of physical body strength gave Alan a familiar feeling of control over everything.
But this feeling had just arisen when it was suppressed by Alan's reason after a long groan. He had already experienced the conceit and invincibility brought by powerful forces in the illusion. It would have taken a long time to digest, but because the previous illusory experience formed memories, Alan quickly regained his sanity, which also directly shortened the adaptation period after his demigod breakthrough.
It was still that slender body, seemingly unchanged, but the flesh beneath the skin was no longer what it once was.
Subtle webs of energy spread between the muscles, not only strengthening the muscles' power and resilience, but also the constantly flowing rage energy continued to nourish the muscle cells, allowing them to continue to become stronger slowly and steadily. The blood vessel walls became thinner and thinner, seemingly more fragile, but in reality, there was a layer of obscure energy film on both the inside and outside of the thin blood vessel walls, protecting the blood vessel walls in between. Even the greatest rush of blood could no longer cause tearing or damage to the blood vessel walls.
The dark golden Bonesplitter, dragging behind him, flashed with faint light spontaneously in rhythm with Alan's heartbeat, as if cheering for its master's breakthrough. Rage flowed through the blade without hindrance, with almost no energy loss.
The magic model inside the blade, as well as the energy fluctuations from the magic metal itself, connected to the ubiquitous invisible energy in nature, allowing Alan to use Bonesplitter to exert the greatest damage and destructive power with the least amount of energy at any time.
Each time a massive amount of rage was poured into the sword, it was a tempering of Bonesplitter. Subtle, imperceptible impurities were washed away by the rage and expelled from the sword body with the impact of the attack, gradually improving and strengthening its material.
The more familiar it was with its master Alan's rage operation mode and vibration frequency, the more Bonesplitter would instinctively tend to its master's habits, constructing invisible but real channels within the blade body, just like the magic glands that appear when a magical beast awakens. Magical weapons and equipment can also passively accept the master's aura and energy guidance during long-term use, constructing channels similar to magic models.
One day in the future, after Bonesplitter has been immersed and tempered by Alan's rage for a long time, the material quality of the sword body will undergo a qualitative leap. Even without a master craftsman re-smelting and forging it, it can improve from the legendary rank to the demigod rank on its own.
But at this time, Alan only felt that the rage was flowing smoothly in the Bonesplitter's blade. The magic model and characteristics of the sword body always responded instantly between the thoughts, giving the sword body a sense of physical extension.
The rage vortex, with the beating of the heart, sometimes swelled and sometimes contracted, as if it had its own life, breathing on its own. The speck of faith dust at the core of the vortex became more and more solidified as Alan truly advanced to demigod. Under the inner vision of consciousness, it emitted a faint white light, like a pearl in the sky, floating at the core of the rage vortex, particularly conspicuous.
If Alan's eyes could penetrate the barrier of the plane and see through his own body, then he would be able to see the faint white light blooming from the mustard-seed-like speck of faith dust, piercing through the endless distance of the sky, and interfering with a certain newborn star in the sky, with the frequency gradually becoming consistent.
The dim light of the new star was inconspicuous in the starry sky where the stars twinkled, and no one noticed its appearance and change. But upon closer inspection, one could feel that each time the new star flickered, its light would brighten slightly. Perhaps after the changes of a long time, it would be displayed in the vision of countless races in thousands of worlds, just like the stars in the sky.
Crack!
Underneath his feet, the originally towering mountain peak suffered an unwarranted disaster simply because Alan wanted to try a move on a whim, and the summit was directly removed from the original map. When the dust dissipated, what reappeared before Alan was a flat ground hundreds of meters wide. Scattered rubble rolled down the slope of the mountain ridge to the bottom of the mountain, with only a small amount piled up on the abrupt top of this half-cut mountain.
Satisfied, Alan looked at the messy scene under his feet, gently stomped in the void, and as several black space cracks appeared, Alan's body also窜 了 出 去 如 闪电般,直奔 南边 两百多里 外 的 白雾 峡谷.
The so-called White Mist Canyon is the artificial channel that the Green Field Tribe spent more than a hundred years to excavate with the strength of the entire tribe.
The canyon is more than one hundred and seventy miles long, even at the pace of an ordinary hobgoblin, one can run back and forth in a day. But this seemingly not too long distance took the Green Field Tribe a hundred years of time, and immeasurable manpower and resources.
At its widest point, the passage spanned over sixty miles. Standing on the steep cliff at one end, one could barely make out the towering peaks on the other side, only their vague outlines. Even at its narrowest, it was still over twenty miles wide, far more spacious than the Cator Canyon.
Because the sky above the passage was perpetually covered in mist, constantly flooded by water vapor from the endless ocean, sunny days were a rare sight throughout the year, earning it the descriptive name of White Mist Canyon.
In the center of the canyon, artificial rivers ran along either side, nestled against the mountain walls, constantly draining rainwater from the stony ground towards the eastern desert and the western sea.
At regular intervals along these artificial rivers, there were weir lakes, facilities built in advance to facilitate future modifications to the canyon's terrain and the local utilization of resources.
Freshwater fish and various aquatic plants, captured from the Murky Water Creek, had already been released into the riverbeds. With the aid of druidic magic accelerating the evolution of these fish and plants, many species had adapted to the river's environment and begun to thrive.
According to the plan, the goblins would further improve the ground environment within the canyon, then spread soil and plant vegetation, allowing the fortresses at either end of the canyon to obtain food and resource supplies locally.
The fortress planned near the canyon's exit towards the endless ocean was yet to be built, with only piles of neatly arranged stone bricks marking the spot. However, at the eastern exit, a magnificent stone fortress complex, no smaller in scale than the Muer Fortress, was already taking shape.
Although lacking strategic building materials like mana-absorbing stones, which made the new fortress somewhat vulnerable to legendary-level experts or magical attacks, the locally sourced granite bricks were still excellent in terms of durability and strength.
During the construction of the city walls, networks of steel bars were laid between the bricks. Then, the 'Stone to Mud' spell was used to fuse the stacked bricks together. Once the spell's effect dissipated or the duration ended, it would solidify into a seamless, monolithic stone defense.
Its defensive strength was only slightly less than that of the Muer Fortress's defenses, lacking primarily in magical resistance.
Of course, the cost of building the fortress in this way was not low. The steel used for Fort Trikard, a fusion of the names Trik and Facardo, alone depleted over a decade's worth of materials from the Aro Town's stores. It was only because the tribe's population had increased, leading to a growing number of spellcasting talents, that the magical fusion of stone bricks became feasible, both training the spellcasters' skills and requiring little resource consumption.
The fortress's design was even more outstanding than that of the Muer Fortress. Trik and Facardo, the two old fellows, wanting to leave behind a lasting legacy, poured all their years of experience into it.
Sometimes, for the sake of a single street's layout, the two old goblins would grab each other's beards and argue loudly, neither willing to concede.
But sadly, they didn't live to see the fortress completed, passing away a few years prior. However, to compensate for their regret, the two goblins specifically instructed their descendants to bury their graves beneath the city walls of the inner fortress, saying that even in the River Styx, they wanted to contribute to the fortress's eternal existence.
Arriving at the wide city gate on the eastern side of the fortress, Allen couldn't help but glance at the two powerful common words, 'Trikard', carved at the top of the gate, in the handwriting of Facardo and Trik themselves.
To the left and right of the city gate, two five-meter-tall hobgoblin statues, their faces stern and dignified, stared straight ahead, their legs fused with the towering stone of the city walls behind them. These were statues created in the likeness of the two goblin leaders.
On the city walls behind the statues, there were also common-language inscriptions detailing the life stories of the two hobgoblins. Anyone who could read could easily learn the origins of these two statues, fulfilling the promise Allen had made to the two goblins.
Passing through the thick city walls, over thirty meters wide, and entering the fortress's interior, orderly streets stretched out, wide and flat, surrounded by plots of land marked out by stone bricks for future houses. Because the fortress was not yet fully completed, the tribe had no plans to relocate people here, except for the workers and their families constructing the city defenses, and the hundreds of goblin soldiers stationed there.
The environment in the western Greenwild Plains was improving. The Oakleaf Theocracy's meddlesome druids and ascetics had released many fish into the newly formed large lakes to the north. Even the green vegetation spreading across the plains was becoming too monotonous, so the Oakleaf Theocracy had specifically scattered various tree and grass seeds.
Once the land and ecology east of the fortress had improved, the Greenwild Tribe would consider relocating their people to settle here.
After all, compared to Green Lake Town and its surrounding satellite towns, each with its own specialized function, Fort Trikard was neither a vital commercial route nor did it produce any unique resources. If the ecological environment could not be self-sufficient, it would be equivalent to being exiled to a desolate land, and few goblins would be willing to settle here.
However, for the tribe, this was a vital military stronghold that needed to be heavily garrisoned. If a large number of goblin residents could not be relocated to settle here, even if the entire Greenwild Tribe's army were brought over, it probably wouldn't be enough to fill this vast urban area!
Of course, the relocated goblins would certainly not be drafted and sent to the city walls as soldiers, but at least for the garrisoned army, there would be a reserve force in critical moments. At the same time, the city's prosperity would prevent the garrisoned army from feeling bored and lonely, preventing mutiny and desertion from occurring.
"Chieftain."
The goblin captain guarding the city walls spotted Allen's figure and, assuming there were instructions, quickly ran down, while also sending someone to notify the commander in the city.
"Nothing's wrong. Go back to your post."
Allen really didn't have anything in particular to do. It was just that the place he had chosen for his seclusion happened to be near Fort Trikard, so he had come to take a look on his way back.
"Yes."
The hobgoblin captain obeyed the order, quickly running back up the city walls, raising his chest and sharply surveying the surrounding situation.
Before the acting commander of Fort Trikard could arrive, Allen had already taken flight, heading towards the plains to the east.
