Green Monster Epic

#73 - All roads lead home

When Jack returned once more, the sky was still at dawn, his face etched with weariness. For Allen's money bag, he hadn't dared to delay even for a moment that night. Relying on the dark vision of a goblin, he had stubbornly found a path in the pitch-black night that would allow Allen and the others to safely return to Green Lake.

He had just snuck into Allen's temporary camp when a pair of emerald eyes stared directly at Jack's figure, startling him. It was Allen himself, who hadn't rested all night.

"You've worked hard. I wonder if things went well?"

Allen asked anxiously about the most important matter. Only after Jack nodded did he finally relax.

"To be honest, your map is way too wrong. Actually, there aren't many large tribes west of the Kobold tribe. With the strength of your team, hardly anyone would dare to provoke you."

In fact, Allen and the others didn't know that the source stream of Green Lake, the Turbid Water Creek, had changed its course due to a geological shift more than a hundred years ago. Now, the only two places with large amounts of water accumulation nearby were Green Lake and Rapid Current Bay. The importance of a water source was self-evident; any tribe with the ability would instinctively occupy such a place. So, in reality, the only tribe with any strength around Green Field was the Shattered Bone Tribe.

As for the author of the map in Allen's hand, he had traveled here more than one hundred and fifty years ago. With the passage of time and historical changes, many tribes that used to live along the Turbid Water Creek had long been submerged in the tides of history. How could there still be any trace of them?

At the time, Felice and the others from the Silver Flash Merchant Company wanted to cross the Kobold territory according to the map markings. Firstly, because they were unfamiliar with the area and were carrying valuable goods, they didn't dare to take too much risk. Secondly, their time was tight, and they didn't have more time to slowly scout the surrounding environment. In the end, they hired Allen and the others to design an ambush on Wolf Tooth Shattered Bone, which indirectly weakened the Kobold's strength, which was very beneficial to Allen and the others' long-term survival in Green Field.

"Oh, our tribesmen live in the wilderness and rarely set foot in the territory of other tribes. So, apart from things within a few dozen miles of the tribe, we don't know much about other things."

Based on the lazy nature of the Bear Goblins, apart from basic instincts such as eating, drinking, and sleeping, there was really nothing else that could make them care. Even Allen himself felt a little embarrassed when he said these words.

If he had usually understood the surrounding environment more, Allen wouldn't be so anxious now. Fortunately, hiring Jack, the goblin, brought a lot of help, which saved him a lot of trouble.

"If you want to set off, I suggest you wake people up now. While the daylight is still early, there will be much less trouble."

Jack grew up in the Kobold territory and was quite clear about the Kobold's habits, such as the range of their sensitive sense of smell and hearing, as well as their daily routine. Naturally, he hoped that Allen and the others could avoid these advantages of the Kobolds and reach their camp more safely.

"Okay, I'll go wake them up now."

Allen also cooperated and accepted the other party's suggestion, immediately taking action to wake up the group of guys who were sleeping soundly.

Kicking and punching, scolding and cursing, Allen didn't care about the feelings of his tribesmen and slaves at all. After a commotion, it didn't take long for the entire team to be ready to set off. Although the wilderness at night was indeed cold, for the thick-skinned and rough-fleshed Bear Goblins, sleeping in the open air for one or two nights was not a big problem. As for the other Goblins and humans, they had even less room for bargaining and could only find a flat place to rest like the Bear Goblins. Therefore, when it was time to hurry, there was not much to pack up.

Following behind Jack, Allen felt a little nervous. Any sign of trouble on the road could make his whole heart rise to his throat. On the other hand, Dasha and Hua She and the others still had a nonchalant look. Apart from occasionally looking back to see if anyone had fallen behind, they didn't look like they were sneaking forward at all.

The wilderness at dawn was still relatively quiet. Apart from herbivorous animals coming out to forage in the early morning, carnivorous animals and wilderness natives rarely roamed around in the morning. After more than 4 hours of marching, Allen suppressed the guys in the team who wanted to slack off with a combination of drinking and scolding. Finally, before lunch, they saw their long-lost Green Lake camp.

Speaking of which, Allen and the others hadn't occupied Green Lake Village for long. Even the time that Allen, Dasha and the others had spent in Green Lake Village added up to only a few days. However, when they saw the familiar yet unfamiliar ruins of the village in front of them, Allen and the others still couldn't calm the excitement in their hearts, and they couldn't help but want to move forward and run towards here.

Fortunately, Allen was still sober and forcibly scolded them to calm the commotion in the team. These three trucks and dozens of slaves behind him couldn't be abandoned by everyone just as they were about to be delivered to their destination.

The wooden walls surrounding the village, which were originally gray and white, had turned dark black. It was the fire caused by the Shattered Bone caster's fireball that had burned the entire village. Even now, one could still see wisps of smoke floating in the air, causing Allen to frown and secretly annoyed.

Soon, the village, which everyone thought was lifeless, suddenly revealed several figures as they were about to arrive. Allen took a closer look and couldn't help but be overjoyed. The owner of the face at the head, wearing expressions of surprise, sadness, and other emotions, was none other than Green Field Tribe's flower, Camellia!

At this time, Allen's pace couldn't help but quicken a bit, and he quickly merged with the Bear Goblin Camellia and her companions who were running towards him.

"Chieftain, you're finally back!!"

Camellia cried with pear blossoms in the rain, throwing herself directly into Allen's arms. Looking at her furry face, with a few strands of hair wet with tears mixed together, Allen rarely didn't push this female away, but clumsily put his left hand on her back and patted her lightly to express his condolences.

Behind him, Hua She and a few other young people who had tasted meat looked at this scene with envy, while also muttering in their mouths to squeeze out Allen, thinking that the other party had stolen their limelight.
