#93 - Humiliation
Chapter 93: Humiliation
The Bonecrusher's hut was spacious, but rather drafty, with gaps everywhere allowing light to stream in. Considering the kobolds' building skills, this hall capable of accommodating 40-50 people, along with the two-story wooden building upstairs where the Bonecrusher rested, was already their finest work.
At least compared to the former Greenwild Tribe, this wooden structure was far superior in both style and construction.
The Bonecrusher sat upright on a wooden bed at the head of the hall, covered with soft grass mats. These were the kobolds' handiwork during their leisure time, making sitting more comfortable. As a spellcaster who needed to meditate often, the Bonecrusher naturally had these comfortable items in his meditation space.
"Respected Elder Bonecrusher, thank the earth for granting you health."
Allen offered his blessings outwardly, secretly wishing the old fellow would hurry up and die, while his face wore a friendly smile.
"The earth bless you."
The Bonecrusher nodded, accepting Allen's blessing. Although their beliefs differed, as wilderness natives, the earth was closely tied to their emotions and faith, so using the earth to bless the other during pleasantries was never wrong.
"A month apart, Chief Allen's appearance has become quite handsome, increasingly resembling the humans to the south."
The Bonecrusher invited Allen to sit down, then carefully examined Allen's changes, jokingly remarking.
"Uh!"
Allen was embarrassed. If it weren't for his pointed, erect ears and still-green skin, anyone seeing Allen without his fine downy fur would think he looked very similar to a human. Or rather, if Allen were a bit more handsome and taller, he could definitely pass for an elf if he dyed his skin.
Because of his current transformation, the tribesmen had teased him relentlessly, joking that he was a hybrid.
"Perhaps I have human blood in me!"
Allen could only comfort himself this way, using a self-deprecating tone to gloss over the previous embarrassment, preventing the Bonecrusher from dwelling on it further.
"Hahaha, indeed."
The Bonecrusher laughed, having not heard such a good joke in a long time.
"..."
After some meaningless pleasantries, Allen casually said something, steering the topic toward the main point: "After my escape, I seemed to see figures of bear earthlings. Could it be that your tribe, Elder Bonecrusher, still has members of my tribe?"
"Oh, that? Just some livestock we caught in the wilderness. How could our tribe have people from your tribe?"
The Bonecrusher flatly denied.
"But my tribesmen had seen that after you broke through our village, you captured several members of my tribe, so I wanted to ask the elder about it as I passed by."
Allen frowned, appearing puzzled.
"What, Chief Allen, are you here to interrogate me?"
The Bonecrusher's face darkened, his mood seemingly souring.
"Not at all. Our two tribes have finally restored peace, and we should get along harmoniously. How could I be so inconsiderate as to come and cause displeasure for the elder!"
Allen quickly chuckled, bowing slightly as an apology.
"However, if there really are members of my tribe in the elder's tribe, I wonder if the elder could be so kind as to release them and return them to my tribe, which would also be a testament to the peaceful coexistence of our two tribes."
"It seems Chief Allen doesn't trust me. Very well, I'll have those green skins brought over right away, so Chief Allen can take a good look and see if they are truly your tribesmen."
The Bonecrusher's expression remained unpleasant, his gloomy old face almost dripping with water, but his words delighted Allen.
If he could bring the bear earthlings from the Bonecrusher tribe out for identification, Allen would naturally be able to recognize the tribesmen he had lived with for over a decade.
Someone was called in, and Myer's dog-like face appeared before Allen, but Allen didn't recognize this kobold he had only met once.
The Bonecrusher whispered a few words in Myer's ear, and Myer's fierce gaze swept across Allen's face, then he chuckled and walked out of the house.
"Shall we go out and take a look?"
The Bonecrusher waited for Myer to leave for a while before getting up from the wooden bed and saying to Allen.
When Myer's gaze swept over him, Allen's intuition began to warn him, as if something bad was about to happen, making him uneasy.
However, he was now in a difficult position. Seeing that the Bonecrusher had greeted him and walked out of the house first, Allen could only follow behind him.
The figures of bear earthlings appeared outside the door, but these figures didn't move at all, already soft corpses lying on the chopping board. Myer, who had just received instructions from the Bonecrusher, was now dragging a chopping board that looked like it was used for processing large fish, stacking four or five bear earthling corpses together in front of the Bonecrusher's house.
"Look, I told you, there are no members of your tribe in our village, only a few livestock."
The Bonecrusher seemed to blame Allen for not trusting him, with a hint of dissatisfaction in his words.
Looking at the familiar faces on the chopping board, Allen's heart was filled with murderous intent, almost bursting out, and when his dark eyes looked at the Bonecrusher, they seemed to reveal a逼迫 forcing bloody light.
Allen never expected that the Bonecrusher would be so cruel and ruthless, issuing the order to kill his tribesmen in front of him. At this moment, the green blood still dripping on the chopping board was silently telling Allen that the time of their tribesmen's death was only a few breaths ago.
A young bear earthling cub was now pressed in the middle of the corpses. The pair of lifeless eyes on his head originally had no vitality, but in Allen's eyes, the seemingly unconsciously glaring eyes were questioning why he hadn't been able to protect him.
Allen was very familiar with that bear cub. When he was recuperating from his injuries during the attack on the jackalmen, he supervised a group of cubs training, and this cub was the most lively of them, and Allen thought he was very talented. Perhaps when he grew up, he wouldn't be worse than Allen himself.
However, now everything was in vain. The cub who had lost his fresh life could only lie on the Bonecrusher tribe's fish-killing chopping board, never again calling out to him in a childish tone.
"Very well, I have truly learned the elder's methods."
Allen had already placed a hand on the two-handed sword behind him. Seeing his actions, the kobolds around him also became vigilant, making threatening gurgling sounds in their throats. However, the Bonecrusher, who was closest to Allen, was still calm and composed, staring back at Allen with a sinister smile: "Hehe, you thought that by threatening me with my tribesmen to sign the contract, you could truly be on equal footing with my Bonecrusher tribe? To say that let me hand over your tribe's people, it's ridiculous!!!"
(How about it, isn't this a bit too much for Allen? I feel a bit cruel!!
But this is an inevitable thing. If it were you or me in the Bonecrusher's position, we would also choose to use this method to provoke the protagonist.
If the protagonist burns down in anger and suddenly makes a move, violating the contract, then the Bonecrusher's goal will be achieved. After all, among the wilderness natives, not many people can be as تحمل burden忍辱 bearing as the protagonist.
Even if the protagonist can endure this, the Bonecrusher himself doesn't suffer any losses, does he? A few bear earthlings are a waste of food in the village, and now killing them can be used as food for the tribesmen in the village. As long as these guys don't fall into the protagonist's hands and strengthen the protagonist's tribe, the Bonecrusher can accept it.
Don't think this is abusing the protagonist. This is actually just a potential confrontation between the leaders of the two tribes. The only difference is that the protagonist is too naive, and his opponent is too cruel.)
