Green Monster Epic

#99 - One goal

Chapter 99: A Goal

(Thanks to the book friend for the reward, here's an extra chapter, hahaha, just being willful like this. There are quite a few drafts saved up but no recommendation slot.)

The flower snake's sudden departure to seek his breakthrough opportunity didn't bring much change to Green Field Village. It continued to operate on its original trajectory.

Allen still went out from time to time, and he always returned with some gains. However, his greatest gain was a greater understanding and knowledge of the surrounding environment.

The trip to Bone Fracture Village had a profound impact on Allen. He was determined to launch a counterattack against the Bone Fracture Tribe after the Bone Breaker died or was one day killed. Now, the most important thing for him to do was to narrow the gap in strength between the two sides, so that he could achieve his goal.

The increase in population takes time. The fact that the females in the tribe are becoming pregnant is the result of Allen's efforts. However, the rate of increase is too slow, and Allen really can't stand it. Then there is only another way.

The so-called other way is annexation.

There have always been many tribes and families in the wilderness. When many powerful tribes rise, they inevitably annex surrounding tribes. This is the fastest way to increase strength. However, this method also has its drawbacks: there are many races in the wilderness, and there are many types. It is rare for members of the same race to live as neighbors, because these neighbors will eventually become a case of the big fish eating the small fish, with the strong annexing the weak.

Over time, whenever traces of their own race are found among the neighbors around them, many tribes would rather spend more to migrate to remote areas than stay where they are and wait for their own race to come to their door. Anyway, the wilderness is big enough, there is always a place to stay.

The previous generations of chiefs of the Green Field Tribe never had the habit of collecting information about the surrounding environment and tribes. This has meant that Allen, after succeeding as chief, also has very little understanding of the surrounding environment, except for the routes he often travels when hunting and plundering. In addition, now that the Green Field Tribe has moved from its old site to this unfamiliar area of Green Lake, Allen and his people feel even more unfamiliar with the surrounding environment.

If you want to annex another tribe, you must first find a target for annexation. Allen's first choice is naturally the bear goblins. Bear goblins are strong and sturdy. As long as they are adults, they are qualified warriors. Although they are a bit stupid, being stupid also has its advantages, which is that they are obedient and easy to tame. The second choice, needless to say, is definitely the earth goblins. Although the physical fitness of the earth goblins is a bit worse, that's compared to the bear goblins and jackalmen. Compared with the kobolds, the two sides are basically at the same level. Allen's opponent is the kobolds, so this group of earth goblins can still play a role to some extent.

However, as for the short goblins, sorry, I would only be crazy to annex these guys. Apart from eating about as much as the bear goblins, they are weaker in everything else. Could it be that when Allen and his people go to war with the kobolds, the goblins will just be cheering and supporting them from the sidelines?

Food is scarce in the wilderness. The Green Field Tribe has finally occupied a fertile land, so that the problem of food shortage can be temporarily solved. He will not recruit a group of useless freeloaders to consume the hard-won food. Even the group of useless goblins in the tribe, Allen thinks they are a burden. Their only use is to help with some chores.

Allen has been going out alone these days to familiarize himself with the surrounding environment, understand which races live around, and find their own race among them. Every time he goes out, Allen picks a direction and patrols all the way for hundreds of miles. This distance is only two days back and forth for him. In addition, it takes as little as 5 days and as much as a week to find traces left by other races along the way, follow the clues to find their residences, and observe them from a distance to obtain first-hand information.

After going out for 5 consecutive times, Allen finally had some gains. The earth goblin tribe that they had met before on the west side of their tribe's original site was finally found by Allen where they were based, and he also found out the approximate strength of their tribe.

No wonder they disappeared after meeting Allen and his people. It turned out that they were hiding in a secret valley 70 miles west of the old Green Field site. Usually, this earth goblin settlement basically does not leave the valley at all except for hunting, gathering berries, and other activities, which is why Allen has been looking for them for so long.

This is just a family-style settlement composed of only a dozen earth goblins, half of whom are male. Allen counted when he was secretly spying, and the number of warriors on the other side was only 7, and their strength was not too strong.

Originally, according to Allen's strength, he could completely kill them alone and capture the leader of the other side, and he would basically be able to subdue this earth goblin settlement. However, later Allen thought about it, the males in the tribe don't have too much experience in fighting. Perhaps this attack on the earth goblin settlement will be a good time for training soldiers. Moreover, Allen only has one person and two hands. It is rare to find a goblin settlement. If the other side sees that they are losing and scatters and flees, then Allen's purpose in attacking this settlement will not be fully accomplished.

After all, he is only one person. He may have no problem fighting, but he can't do a perfect job of chasing a group of earth goblins running around. Thinking about how his people would inevitably flee in all directions if they encountered a situation where the village was losing, then Allen has no confidence in the earth goblins' sense of belonging and identity with the settlement and the leader.

After marking the location of the other party's settlement on the map, Allen quietly retreated without daring to disturb them. After returning to the village, Allen did not immediately send troops, but first gathered a group of warriors in front of the square, preparing to select 7-8 people to go out with him. As for how to select these warriors, Allen already had a plan in mind.

"We bought a batch of leather armor at Thornsburg before, but we haven't distributed it yet. Now I see that everyone's strength has improved a lot. Today, let's have a challenge to test your gains over these days."

"Of course, there are benefits to holding this challenge. That is, a set of fine leather armor. Whoever wins this reward, it will be your own private property. No one in our tribe can force you to hand it over, not even me!"

"This time, I will only give the prizes to the top three in the challenge. The others will not have this benefit, otherwise you will definitely slack off."

"Also, Dashan, Axiu, and Dajiang, the three of you are not allowed to participate in this challenge. Your strength is far greater than the others. It would not be fair at all if you participated. Moreover, you already have a set of leather armor. I bought them for you. Don't complain to me, otherwise I will take back the leather armor on you!"

Allen's sudden move caused the males in the square to look at each other, touching the hair on their heads for a long time without saying a word, and not knowing what to say. However, after the patriarch explained, everyone understood what this so-called challenge meant, and after staring at the set of leather armor that Allen held up high, everyone began to become active.
