“I’m involved in a case of theft,” Luosang said as she recounted the incident to Nian Xi.

After hearing her story, Nian Xi looked at the officer who brought Luosang in with fury, “Du Zheng, are you tired of living? Do you have any idea who she is? She is my friend; how could think she was a thief? She didn’t steal a thing when she lived with my brother at the villa, but you think she’d be tempted by some petty cash?”

“Lived with your brother?” The police officers drew in sharp breaths, they all knew who Nian Xi’s brother was. If this young lady stayed with him before, she must have a deep relationship with Nian Junting.

Everyone was looking at Luosang differently now.

Luosang’s face was dark with worry, “It’s not what you guys think, Mr. Nian and I…”

“I know, I know, you must have been framed,” Du Zheng interrupted her, “How could you be a thief if you’re Miss Nian and Mr. Nian’s friend?”

Before Luosang could clarify herself, Nian Xi interjected, “Exactly, we’ve all been to university before and we know how important your reputation is as a student. You must investigate this case properly and give Luosang her due justice. And Sansan, my brother would be so thrilled to know that you’re still in Xia City. He didn’t tell me explicitly, but I can tell he had a difficult time getting used to things after you left. I’ll call him right away.” She turned and dialed her brother’s number.

“Why are you calling me so late in the night? Don’t tell me you’re in trouble again,” the voice on the other end was groggy and croaky; he must have just woken up.

“You’re already asleep at 11pm? You’re practically an old man already,” Nian Xi teased him mischievously.

“What do you want? I’m going to hang up,” Nian Junting was annoyed. He hated being labelled as a lonely single.

“Hey, please don’t! Guess who I met at the Cheng He Police Station? It’s Luosang! God, you don’t know how beautiful she looks now, and she told me she’s only twenty-two years old…”

“What are you guys doing at the police station?” cried Nian Junting.

Nian Xi ignored him and continued, “Someone accused Luosang of stealing, I dropped by the station by coincidence. Anyways, the main point is that she is very beautiful now…”

“Cheng He Police Station you say? I’m coming over right now. If Luosang asks, tell her I’m coming to pick you up. Why don’t you ask me to pick you up over the phone now for good measure?” Nian Junting was already getting dressed.

Nian Xi was confused but she quickly made sense of the situation. Glancing at Luosang, she coyly asked, “Brother, will you please come and pick me up? I didn’t drive to work today, and it’ll be so dangerous for a pretty girl like me to be wandering the streets.”

“Sansan, my brother is coming to pick us up,” she grabbed Luosang’s arms cheerily after hanging up. Her brother just couldn’t keep an aloof front, could he? She was amused that he was going to rush here immediately after hearing Luosang had become very pretty.

Nian Xi was planning to help her brother: a fool in love. She would be so pleased if Luosang became her sister-in-law. Luosang was someone who doted on her and it compensated for the fact that Nian Junting wasn’t the most caring brother out there.
