Harry doesn't want to be a wizard, he just wants to be a superhero
#21 - Sorting Ceremony
The temperature on the lake was several degrees lower than other places, and with the cold wind, the thin Hermione had to huddle against Harry.
Harry consciously helped Miss Otter block the cold wind, after all, with his physique, these cold winds couldn't do him any harm.
Suddenly, a clear splash of water rippled on the surface, and Harry looked in that direction, seeing a giant squid flash by.
He also felt subtle magic fluctuations on the giant squid, very similar to the magic fluctuations on the gray rat, Scabbers.
However, this giant squid was obviously more powerful than Scabbers, probably the equivalent of dozens of Scabbers.
Even though the giant squid was powerful, Harry still didn't panic, but curiously sized it up.
This giant squid had obviously lived in the Black Lake for a long time and was a magical creature tamed by Hogwarts, and would definitely not attack young wizards.
It would even rescue young wizards after they fell into the water, and would often approach young wizards at ordinary times, letting them scratch its tentacles.
Harry had learned all of this from "Hogwarts: A History".
When the foremost boat approached a cliff, Hagrid's voice came again: "Heads down!"
Everyone lowered their heads, and only straightened up after the boat passed through the ivy curtain covering the cliff.
Then everyone followed a dark track to the bottom of the castle, arriving at an underground dock, where Harry saw a familiar black figure.
Black lines appeared on his forehead, and he waved his wand to make the black toad fly over, handing it to Neville with a wry smile:
"Neville, don't lose Trevor again, he'll be sad!"
Neville was overjoyed: "Merlin's beard, you've helped me find Trevor again, Harry, you've helped me three times, I will definitely repay you!"
Immediately afterwards, everyone followed the lights constantly provided by Harry, went up along the tunnel, came to a flat, damp meadow, continued forward, climbed a flight of stone steps, and finally stopped in front of a huge oak door.
Just as they stopped, as if sensing everyone's arrival, a tall, black-haired witch in an emerald green robe walked out from within.
She looked serious, as if she was not easy to get along with, but Harry knew that this was the temperament that teachers usually had.
From Hagrid's words, Harry knew her name:
"Professor McGonagall, the first years have arrived."
Professor McGonagall sized everyone up with sharp eyes, and after everyone quieted down, nodded in satisfaction:
"Thank you, Hagrid, leave them to me, young wizards, follow me."
She led everyone into the depths of the castle, which was more luxurious than Harry had imagined, more like a palace than a school.
Professor McGonagall led them left and right, up the stairs, and finally stopped in front of a large door.
Harry heard the sound behind the door, which was the voices of other young wizards, presumably they were already seated.
So what is the Sorting Ceremony?
Harry was a little curious, and to his surprise, he searched all kinds of books, but couldn't find the detailed content of the Sorting Ceremony, only hearing that it seemed to be related to a hat.
Professor McGonagall urged the young wizards, telling them about the history of Hogwarts, the origin of the four houses, and how the House Cup was obtained, and emphasized that the House Cup was the highest honor.
The other young wizards were very excited, even Hermione was no exception, they couldn't wait to earn points and help the house they were about to join win the House Cup.
But Harry didn't care about these, in his opinion, the House Cup was no different from a little red flower, he had already passed the age of being excited by these meaningless rewards.
"In a few minutes, the Sorting Ceremony will be held in front of all the teachers and students of the school, I suggest you tidy yourselves up before then, it's best to be more energetic."
Professor McGonagall focused her eyes on a few young wizards with disheveled clothes, and only left after those young wizards immediately tidied up their clothes.
Only after the strict Professor McGonagall left for a few minutes did many young wizards dare to speak quietly.
"How can they accurately sort us into which house?" Hermione asked Ron, who was the most knowledgeable about the wizarding world among the three.
Ron was also a little uncertain: "I think, there must be a test of some kind, Fred said it would hurt us a lot, but I think he's joking."
At this time, the discussion of other young wizards came:
"My brother told me that we need to fight trolls!"
"Waaah, but my mother told me that we need to challenge fire-breathing dragons..."
"Neither, neither, we have to challenge hippogriffs!"
...
Many young wizards brought bad news, and Hermione nervously kept chanting spells, wanting to sharpen her skills at the last minute.
Ron was even shivering, and even Harry was affected to some extent.
However, unlike what these young wizards were considering, Harry was thinking about whether to use his full strength if he had to fight those magical creatures?
Although he didn't know what the content of the Sorting Ceremony was, he also knew it was absolutely safe.
But even so, he didn't want to face the trolls and other magical creatures being beaten and fleeing everywhere.
Perhaps he could just kill them with one sword, whether it was a troll, a fire-breathing dragon, or a hippogriff, as long as they were beheaded they would die!
But wouldn't that be too bloody?
Soon, Professor McGonagall came back again, and everyone suddenly fell silent.
Professor McGonagall said: "The Sorting Ceremony is about to begin, everyone be prepared, follow me."
Following Professor McGonagall's reminder, everyone lined up in single file, passed through the entrance hall, and then entered the luxurious Great Hall through a pair of double doors.
The students of other grades in the hall were already sitting around four long tables, and the tables were filled with many glittering gold plates and tall silver goblets.
Even Harry was secretly amazed at this scene, Hogwarts was really rich.
And thousands of candles floated back and forth above the hall, illuminating the hall brightly.
The brightest place was on the high table at the head of the hall, where there was a long table, which was the seat of the professors.
Harry noticed a familiar figure in the center seat of the long table, tall, thin, with waist-length hair and a beard, both of which were carefully groomed and not messy at all.
He was the owner of the portrait that Harry had seen on the card, the most recognized great wizard of the contemporary era, Dumbledore!
When Harry looked at Dumbledore, he also looked at Harry and nodded to Harry.
In addition, there were two figures that also attracted Harry's attention.
One of them was a thin middle-aged man with greasy hair and a sallow complexion.
He was usually very indifferent, with no change in his face, but whenever he looked at Harry, his mood couldn't help but fluctuate violently, and his face was a little distorted.
Harry was quite familiar with this look, it seemed like the way Aunt Petunia used to look at him.
Both love and hate, the emotions are complex and contradictory, seemingly very disgusted with him, but also quite caring for him.
What's going on?!
