Harry Potter and the Candy Factory
#98 - I'm going to kill someone tonight
“Mr. Black!!!!!”
Andre led Charlie to the office building where their company was located.
Before Charlie could react, a pot-bellied white man, wearing a high-end suit that was several levels above Andre's, rushed out excitedly, grabbed his hand, and shook it vigorously.
“I really didn’t expect you to come in person!!”
The fat, bloated man's eyes gleamed, and his face and neck turned exceptionally red, the joy and surprise almost overflowing.
“I’ve wanted to talk to you about cooperation for a long time!”
Spraying saliva, he pulled Charlie and enthusiastically walked towards the office.
“My name is Peter Muller, but they all like to call me Old Muller. If you like, you can call me that too. You have no idea how happy I was when I heard you were choosing a distributor in the American magical community. To tell you the truth, I’m your loyal fan. I’ve watched the recording of your lecture at Oxford University many times, especially, uh, uh, that sentence you said, ‘Candy is forever for happiness!’ I still remember it and use it as my life motto.”
“You may not know! Our company has a lot of experience! Otherwise, it would be impossible to break through the siege of so many powerful enemies and win the favor of your company.”
It was clear that this Old Muller was probably a quirky and cheerful fellow.
He always seemed to have something to say, and his chatterbox never stopped, constantly spewing out new topics, making even Charlie feel a little overwhelmed and almost defeated on the spot.
But fortunately, Old Muller didn't prolong the conversation for too long, because the day soon began to darken.
Charlie declined Old Muller's enthusiastic invitation to dinner, using the excuse that he was tired from just arriving in America.
Old Muller had no choice but to reluctantly abandon his plan. He sighed and quickly arranged for one of his subordinates to take Charlie to the hotel that had been arranged for him.
Quiet night, inside the hotel room.
Charlie sat by the window, slowly raising his head, gazing at the lonely night sky and the crescent moon outside the window. Then he lowered his head and looked at the brightly lit, bustling city. Even at night, New York's vibrant atmosphere hadn't diminished at all, but was even more so than during the day. For a moment, he didn't know what he was feeling. He only felt that the scene was extremely unfamiliar, and even the moon looked different from what he had seen in England.
The gentleness and smile that Charlie had been maintaining on his face finally disappeared, gradually fading into emotionless flatness. He sat by the window like this, never taking off his trench coat from the time he returned until now.
His fingers rhythmically tapped the surface of the glass round table in front of him, making dull “thump, thump, thump” sounds.
Time gradually passed with the tapping of his fingers, and the clock on the wall of the room had already made a large circle, the hands slowly changing from the initial “10:30” to exactly 12:00 AM.
Finally, Charlie made another move. The faint thumping sound of his fingers tapping the table suddenly stopped. A hint of light, as cold and silent as the sky at this moment, flickered in his eyes.
The next second, he stood up, without any other extra movements. His middle finger and index finger rubbed against each other, and with a crisp “snap” sound, the figure that was originally by the window disappeared without a trace, leaving no trace behind.
New York City, the Bronx, a very inconspicuous, gloomy alley. Gu Ju
Along with a rustling sound, several gray rats gathered beside a trash can, happily eating a box of leftover chow mein. Suddenly, one of the rats stopped eating. He raised his head and stroked his whiskers with his paws, as if sensing some movement, and cautiously scanned the surroundings.
Just as he was relieved and preparing to resume eating the food under him, a dazzling light suddenly and abruptly flashed in the center of the alley, accompanied by a faint “crackling” sound.
Immediately, the rats that were originally enjoying their meal screamed and fled in panic towards the depths of the alley, leaving only the box of leftover chow mein in the silent alley.
“ ”
The light dissipated, and Charlie appeared and walked out from within.
He casually glanced at the fleeing rats, not paying much attention, and walked straight towards the dirty wall of the alley.
The wall was covered with graffiti of unknown origin, as well as dense corpses of chewing gum. There were also several tattered poster flyers.
Charlie stopped in front of one of them, where he could vaguely make out a promotional flyer for a certain supermarket. He closed his eyes and gently pinched a corner of the flyer with his hand.
The next second, that huge pulling force came again, and the familiar feeling of his navel being hooked reappeared. It was as if his soul and body were about to be torn apart.
“Ding-a-ling, ding-a-ling”
When that uncomfortable feeling disappeared, a crisp ringing sound rang in his ears. Charlie opened his eyes, and the wall in front of him had disappeared. He was now clearly no longer in that gloomy alley.
But what replaced it was an even more sinister shop.
“Welcome to Katie’s Magical Hut!!!!”
Before Charlie had time to look around at the bottles and jars in the shop, a rough voice rang out.
Following the direction of the voice, he saw in the deepest part of the densely packed, bizarre items, behind an old counter, a heavily made-up, six-foot-three Black man, holding an old-fashioned hookah, smoking while smiling and looking at Charlie.
His eyes seemed to be able to talk, winking flirtatiously at Charlie, then licking his lips, continuing to say charmingly, “I’m Katie.”
“ ” Charlie was silent for a moment, subconsciously taking out the small piece of paper with information that he had specifically obtained from Knockturn Alley before leaving from his trench coat pocket and carefully looked at it.
After confirming that everything was correct, Charlie finally raised his head again, his gaze refocusing on the “man” named Katie, his tone unchanged, saying directly and decisively
“I heard from my friend that you have unregistered wands here?”
Hearing Charlie's words, Katie raised her eyebrows, and the hookah that she was about to put into her mouth was taken away again.
“Unregistered wands are very rare. What do you want that thing for?”
“I’m going to kill a few people tonight.”
