Hogwarts: I am the White Demon King
#448 - Chapter 448 Minister, Let’s Form an Alliance
The meeting room was buzzing with excitement. Everyone was clearly interested in the pure-blood duel, constantly discussing what kind of deal Fudge and Sebastian had made, while also lamenting Umbridge's refusal to fight and the lack of entertainment.
As for the issue of the Dark Lord's return, it was gradually being ignored, as if no one cared at all, except for Dumbledore, who repeatedly urged everyone to discuss it further.
Seeing this, Fudge simply went with the flow and decided to adopt delaying tactics. He perfunctorily agreed to conduct further investigations into the existing clues, but used vague wording to imply that the investigation would not be too thorough.
As Dumbledore announced the end of the meeting, Fudge immediately stood up and, with a crestfallen Umbridge, headed quickly towards the door, not even turning their heads, for fear of being drawn into more arguments.
In the Minister's office, Fudge paced back and forth, agitated, his face so livid it seemed as if water could drip from it. He slammed his fist on the desk, making a deafening sound.
"Dolores, you are unbelievably stupid!" Fudge glared at Umbridge, his voice filled with suppressed rage. "This whole farce today is all your fault! I, the Minister for Magic, have completely lost face!"
"Did you hear what people were saying just now? Everyone is saying that I, Fudge, had to grovel and kowtow to Sebastian to barely get you back!"
"Congratulations, Dolores, you're about to become famous," Fudge said sarcastically, giving a thumbs up. "The pure-blood duel has been revived because of you. I guarantee the media will be all over this tomorrow."
"No, we don't even need to wait until tomorrow. Someone has definitely already sold the whole story to the media. Tonight, your name will be on everyone's lips, and I, the Minister for Magic, will also get a little boost from your fame."
The more Fudge spoke, the angrier he became, and the louder his voice grew. Fortunately, he had cast a soundproofing charm in advance, so the Ministry employees couldn't hear his roaring.
"What on earth gave you the audacity to provoke Sebastian, and with such a direct personal attack! Did you think he was Dumbledore? Someone who would just smile and let the insults pass?"
He took a deep breath, trying to calm himself down: "Today wasn't a complete loss, though."
He closed his eyes, carefully recalling Sebastian's various reactions, and then said with certainty.
"Sebastian isn't very keen on confirming the Dark Lord's return, or rather, he's not very interested in spreading news about the Dark Lord. Today, it was mainly Dumbledore who was stirring things up."
"Dumbledore..." Fudge gnashed his teeth, repeatedly chewing on the name. "Today's mess was all because of him. He's really going too far, actually using the Wizengamot meeting to force the Ministry to make a decision."
Seeing that Fudge's anger had subsided slightly, Umbridge tentatively spoke: "Minister, today I just wanted to share your burden, because I really can't stand Dumbledore ordering the Ministry around. I even suspect he wants to oust you and become Minister himself."
Oust him?
Umbridge's words directly hit Fudge's sore spot, highlighting his deepest fear.
If it weren't for the Dark Lord issue, Fudge wouldn't be worried about this possibility at all, because he knew very well that Dumbledore had no interest in the position of Minister for Magic.
Back then, he was able to successfully become Minister for Magic entirely because Dumbledore had refused the nomination. Otherwise, Fudge wouldn't have had a chance.
And since then, he had always maintained a superficial respect for Dumbledore, even being careful around him.
Dumbledore was also willing to help Fudge consolidate his position as Minister for Magic, allowing many of his policies to be implemented smoothly.
After all, whether it was ordinary wizards or political opponents, they all knew that the important decrees he issued had been reviewed by Dumbledore in advance. This reduced policy disputes and prevented the opposition from exploiting loopholes.
Of course, this didn't mean that Fudge completely agreed with Dumbledore's ideas. For example, he didn't quite agree with allowing Lupin, a werewolf, to be the Defense Against the Dark Arts professor at Hogwarts. However, to avoid disrupting the delicate balance between them, he often chose to turn a blind eye.
Now, regarding the question of whether the Dark Lord had returned, the two had a serious disagreement.
Dumbledore insisted that the Dark Lord was regrouping his forces, while Fudge was unwilling to admit this news. Therefore, he began to suspect whether Dumbledore would use this crisis to pull him down.
If the Dark Lord really returned, then Dumbledore would likely force him to step down and then arrange for a hard-liner to replace him, such as the highly regarded Amelia Bones.
Dumbledore might even personally take charge of the Ministry of Magic, leading the wizarding world to fight against the dark forces.
"Something must be done," Fudge was on pins and needles, his face as gloomy as a dark cloud. "Today's matter can't be left like this. We must retaliate, we must return this blow, and let Dumbledore know who is the true master of the Ministry of Magic."
Just then, Fudge's magical mobile phone rang. He frowned, raised his hand, and answered.
"Minister, it's Yaxley. Are you in the office? I'd like to have a chat with you."
Yaxley?
What does he want from me?
"Come in then." Fudge waved his wand to remove the soundproofing charm and quickly adjusted his facial expression, suppressing the anger in the depths of his eyes.
Soon, Yaxley, wearing an impeccable smile, pushed the door open and entered.
"Minister, Undersecretary," he nodded slightly, his tone tinged with flattery. "We've already heard about what happened in the meeting room earlier."
"Oh?" Fudge snorted, his eyes sharply scanning the other man. "Are you here to laugh at me?"
"Of course not. You misunderstand," Yaxley quickly waved his hand, his expression sincere. "In fact, Dumbledore's actions have already made us pure-blood families very dissatisfied. He not only slanders us, but also肆意干预魔 法部的事务, and we feel that some action must be taken."
Dumbledore has pushed these people to the limit, and they're actually taking the initiative to ally with me.
Thinking of this, Fudge raised an eyebrow, his tone softening slightly: "What do you want to say?"
"We want to ally with you," Yaxley smiled slightly, a calculating glint flashing in his eyes, "to deal with Dumbledore and the Savior."
